@@Hawkeye26 I'm curious if BGA will allow streamers to have public and private profiles - You can add list anyone you want as a friend on that site so in theory, people could now add the people whose user tags they spot in the video. It's relatively harmless, BUT I could see streamers wanting to be able to play anonymously on the site too.

My brother-in-law bought me Marvel Vallainous for Christmas and it is great. It takes some time to get all the rules down but such a fun time!

I love that you mentioned Villainous. It is one of my favorite games to play and I consider it one of the gems of my collection. The next expansion comes out the 28th of February and it has Gaston, Lady Tremaine, and amazingly The Horned King. I cannot wait!

Funny/Tragic story about Villainous - I was playing with my mother, I was Hades and she was Mother Gothrel. I was one move away from winning the game when suddenly Posiden got pissed off and decided to cause a leak through my ceiling wrecking my bedroom and having to wait months for it to get repaired. Can't wait for the new expansion that's coming out

The fact you put villainous at your 10 is (commenting at that point and not watched the rest) fabulously refreshing. Top Ten from gamers that have either been gaming for a LONG time or have really fallen down cardboard rabbit hole often tend to be a variety of the same 30 or so games. Fantastic! A top ten should not be a snobbish 'see I like all these difficult games' it should be as yours was and full of games that speak to you regardless of what the 'hobby' thinks about them.

Maybe I'm wrong, but that Ghost Castle game reminds me of my favorite board game as a child, which I recently learned was called '13 Dead End Drive' in English. I still have my copy from the '90s (the Spanish version) at my parents' house, and I actually brought it with me from Peru when I moved to the States -- that's how much I loved that game lol

What I love about this list? It speaks to a very different audience than to the BGG crowd which tends towards heavier and more euro games. I don't think there is a game for everybody, but everybody can probably find a game that they do enjoy, so a game list from a slightly outsider perspective is great. I don't greatly care for Smash Up, I think Betrayal really needed something to balance the haunts better, and Mysterium felt like a convoluted Dixit, but people are going to love games for different reasons. As for Zombies!!!, have you given up on that game completely? Or does it still vaguely hit the rotation? For me, it's one where it feels like it could do with a couple of small tweaks but could still work as a gateway game - it needs the tunnels and subways expansion to make getting around the map faster, it's best to remove the card that stops people being able to fight zombies for a whole round, or limit it to a single tile, and maybe a small tweak to the roll and move element, but otherwise it's one of those games you can play with beer and pretzels

People who dismiss Villainous as basic because it has the Disney branding really should give it a closer look. It's a crossover hit with enough strategic impact to appeal to the traditional board game crowd while the Disney theme appeals enough to newcomers to get them to sit through the rules explanation. The game's theming is on point, making you feel like a dastardly Disney villain, making plans to topple the competition, all while quoting your favorite Disney movies. Then the production quality is just beautiful. Ravensburger could have taken the easy way out, put little cardboard cutouts as pieces, put screenshots from the movies on the cards and called it a day, and it all would have worked, but they went the extra mile with gorgeous stylized playing pieces and redrew every screenshot to make the art style on the cards feel consistent across the different villains. Oh hey, and Ghost Castle! I remember that playing that to bits with my siblings when I was like, eight. Never expected to see it on a list like this! Thanks for the nostalgia!

I have a fun fact about star realms. Me and my friend went to Bratislava in 2018 to play in the dice master's European nationals (I came 8th out of 25ish people) we played star realms to relax after playing in a 3 day tournament, the shop owner have both me and my friend a promo card in Slovakian

One of my fondest board gaming memories is winning a game of Werewolf by claiming Mason with my Werewolf partner. We got lucky because there was only one actual Mason in play so the actual Mason had nobody to corroborate their claim

Meetup.com worked for quite a few people before the Pandemic There are forums on BoardGameGeek.com where you can try to find local groups to you In the US, there may be some boardgame groups attached to churches etc It might be worth seeing if you have a local boardgame cafe that does 'singles nights' in the sense of players without groups rather than a speed dating thing
