One of the ways you can tell is if they do something a lot that doesn't appear to make any money but costs a lot. For example - the Mike Stern Trio are a great band but it's not music or a show that used to sell a whole lot of tickets. Turns out that Mike's father is a billionaire, which is likely how he can afford to do it. Mike's guitar playing is great but not highly commercial. Another good example is Julia-Louis Dreyfus - who had quite a tenuous hold in the comedy world for about a decade before she cracked the big time with Seinfeld in about 1992. Most people couldn't afford a decade of that - her father is also a billionaire. Likewise, Kevin Bacon is married to actress Kyra Sedgwick (half sister of Mike Stern, sharing the same billionaire father) and we all know that Kevin actually wasn't in a whole lot of films and rarely plays the lead role. Most actors can't sustain a 40 year career doing that. This isn't criticism - most people with access to their money don't contribute as much as they do to the world. It's just simple and unignorable facts - touring the world in a poorly selling band multiple times, playing bit comedy parts for a decade and being a highly-selective supporting actor for 40 years are not forms of work that will pay the bills over that time, if someone isn't financed from some other source.

@@IndyAvocadoKid It's all too to treat low-rung employees like trash because real wages for these workers has dwindled over time. The minimum wage is no longer a living wage. Often, lower and middle management are the messengers who in-your-face act like it.

Some of these are definitely true. Started working a new job recently and my boss was someone you could tell was extremely wealthy. Good quality shoes and bags, nice watches, nice fitting, good quality clothes, but no brand names on anything. She was well groomed, spoke politely and intelligently, and was kind to everyone. I remember when she treated all the staff members to lunch at a high end hotel, she didn't even look at the bill, just called the waiter and quietly passed her card over. Found out later that she and her husband owned the school I was working at, the hotel we ate in, the amusement park beside it, the golf course, and basically developed half of the area I lived in. Co-worker told me once, "everything you can see outside this window were built by them". I find that people who are truly rich are comfortable in their own skin, they have no need to show off or to prove that they are rich. It is the fake poor that flaunt brand names and get defensive and self-conscious when they 'think' you look down on them. Wealthy people also treat people well, because they know that the people around them are important assets.

Amusing how many people feel offended by your comment and now have to reveal how they are actually “wealthy” and still watch this video. Well, two things: Firstly, good for you if you’re not just talking BS. Secondly, in any case those comments qualify you as both nouveau riche and lower class - because no sophisticated and civilized gentlemen (or woman) would ever respond in such a lower class manner. And lastly - for all those simpletons out there - no, having a lot of money does not make you upper class at all. In fact, upper class has nothing to do with money whatsoever.

I knew his job was very important and I've always had a ton of reverence, but I didn't understand the wealth until I started hearing about financial advisors, trusts, and estate... but I always grew up thinking they were not rich at all because they harped on frugality and the future is uncertain. Being wealthy gives you life lessons. People want to take advantage of you, people also want you to work for them for free being their doctor, their lawyer, their handyman, everyfuckingthing, this is fine if it's just one friend but when it becomes an every growing amount of people, you realise that they're all exploiting you and holding the gossip of "money has changed him" as a way to keep you in line. So it's a natural defense mechanism to present yourself in a way that's ambiguous to your income, fill your time with excuses and only provide your friendship and loyality to those who deserve it. Any person can exhibit all the positive traits you mention if they're independent, respect people time and privacy and has a little taste.

She said "yeah give them $20". And i realized how solid metal black her card was then lol i joked with her "wow 20 thank you so much, are you like secretly wealthy? There’s a difference between being conscious of how or what you’re spending on and looking at prices. And keep in mind, this vid is talking about the super rich for the most part. Not the the people who are comfortable after working hard for 40 years. I believe you’re confusing wealthy with rich. A better example of this is when someone travels, will they pay $20,000 for a first class flight or rent a $20k-$30k a night hotel? It’s not a question of “should I spend this money?” As much as it is “the $20,000 a night hotel is such a non-issue. My comfort is important... meh, just get it”.

I've worked as a private nurse for several billionaires and a lot of these are true. NOT ALL of them apply, but the super wealthy, especially the old rich, are usually very low profile. Wanting privacy is probably their biggest common quality. You'll probably never know they're billionaires when you see them on the streets (A lot of them wear old clothes and have zero brands).

Although my finances have changed I don’t wear name brand clothes or jewelry as a result people typically have no idea. I found out my friend was wealthy when she mentioned she was having a Christmas dinner party for over 20 people the next evening. I couldn’t believe she was so calm because I would have been frantic planning/preparing/shopping/cooking etc but she was totally relaxed about the whole thing. Then casually mentioned she was having the dinner party catered with a private chef and wait staff. And I just thought how cool (and efficient) that was.

Years ago, my Dad felt sorry for this old guy sitting at a bar and bought him a drink. This was in a very small town with lots of farmers around. Who never were in the bar that time of day (they were working on the farms). This guy was in ancient overalls, raggy shirt, beat up shoes, torn straw hat, and drove a very beat up old pickup truck (paint job essentially down to the primer). After the guy left, one of the other men told my Dad who he was - the wealthiest guy around for miles. He was a multi-millionaire. He really did NOT care about appearances!

These rich people are usually quiet, soft-spoken, dressed conservatively, polite, and were not that demanding. There is a private bar lounge with several alcoholic drinks (including a bottle of Dom Pérignon), Godiva chocolates and hors d'oeuvres, but most would be happy just inside their private cabins in 1st class, not touching whats free :)

In my country i used to work in the wealthiest part of the city and i noticed that rich people (recognizable by their cars) are always polite on the road: they would let u cross calmly, seldom horn etc. I always wondered if they're not in a hurry cos they already have money or if they don't want to fight on the road so they dont damage their cars, or if being calm and collected when driving is a trait that actually comes with wealth. Anyway, i decided to act like them when on the road 😂

A friend of mine got a good deal on a big house in Marion Pennsylvania. Marion is in an area refereed to as "The Main Line" which got it's name from the main thoroughfare of the Pennsylvania Railroad heading west from Philadelphia back in the day. There has always been big wealth there since the railroad money first came in but is now mixed in with those who are just "faking it" shall we say. This friends house was really solid but had gotten run down and had a whole bunch of weird renovations over the years. I would help him work on fixing it up. Gutted a bunch of stuff and had a dumpster in the driveway pretty often. Some of the neighbors were really friendly and enthusiastic about the place being fixed up and would stop and chat about random things like wood carving or other hobbies. Others would leer at us while driving by in their BMWs or what have you and there was an occasional complaint about the construction debris etc. Turns out the friendly ones all had ridiculously huge estates and so much wealth they couldn't burn it if they wanted to and the haughty ones with their noses up were mortgaged up to their ears.

My friend got married to an IT guy. His best friend had dropped out of college (they were majoring in Comp Sci) and started his own tech start up. A few years later he sold his start up to Microsoft. At the time, Google wasn’t around so I didn’t realize for how much. So one day she invited us to dinner at their friend’s “new place”. It was the entire building in downtown Manhattan. The guy who sold his tech co bought a whole building with his newfound wealth. This was in the late 90’s. Fast forward to last year. He sold the building at an incredible profit. Funny thing is, you would *never* know he was wealthy. He loves old tee shirts and ripped jeans. Super down to earth and his kids attended public school. Nicest wife I ever met and he never ever bragged.

There are values that are attached to wealth that stay even if wealth is lost. I have found this to be true over time. During my career in Academia, I met an elderly gentleman who was the Director of our university library. He was a quiet and very knowledgeable man of impeccable manners, who was a pleasure to work with. Many years later, I learned he was an exiled Hungarian Count who had helped many jews escape from the Nazis during WWII. Likewise, I had an old friend and classmate who was always very low key and down to earth. Many years after meeting her I found out she was a granddaughter of the Cuban founder of Partagas cigars, a family of enormous wealth who lost it all through the Castrist revolution. In both cases, I learned their backgrounds by chance because neither ever discussed nor flaunted it. In my opinion, that is true class.

I can relate to this actually. Somebody I know has one side of the family was heavily involved with politics and governance in South Vietnam before the War. During the Vietnam War, his entire family lost all their wealth when the communists took over the region. However, they slowly regained back their wealth and because of the networking and reputation that his great-grandfather and grandfather had during those days. He would have what I would call a "rich person" mindset and the assistance from the network.

I did residential cleaning of large mansions, so the person's wealth didn't surprise me. Many of them like to go on vacations and bring back unique objects. For example one family had African animal parts fashioned into furniture. For example, an elephant's foot was made into a coffee table. They also had a lot of antique ivory carvings. Many of them will get an impractical liberal arts degree in anthropology or archaeology. So they'll have photographs of themselves at a tribal dance or they'll be holding up a piece of pottery from Mesopotamia. Some will have trophies in horsemanship or for sailing a windjammer in a race. Once in awhile you'll see a photo of the family hanging out with Henry Kissinger or some such. Every Christmas they'll give each other gifts in the form of charitable contributions to the other person's favorite cause. Some of the worst disappointments are not being invited a prominent social event. Society women will throw tantrums over such rejections. They'll also get upset if some luxury enterprise freezes them out of some one of a kind piece of merchandise such as not being invited for an auction for Fabregé eggs or being frozen out of the purchase of a one of a kind dress or accessory.

I bought a house from a guy that needed a lot of work and asked for owner financing which he did. He was wearing dirty coveralls with holes in them and we wrote the agreement in my vehicle because his work truck did not have heat. I later learned he owned over 1,000 houses as rentals plus was a partner in a mortgage company. He lived in an exclusive neighborhood an hour outside the city on a private lake. I also met a guy at a farmers market selling plants. I asked if he could supply 8 specific bushes of a good size for my home. He called later and said I could pick them up at his home which turned out to be an old mansion. He later introduced me to my 2nd wife who was an heir to the Stokley-Van Camp vegetable dynasty. I met a girl on a business trip at the hotel bar. We sat and had drinks while I listened to her talk about her relationships. I later learned she was part of the Kraft family as in Kraft foods. When i came to university i had a bit of a drinking problem, but it meant i met a lot of people. One person in particular i would drink with almost daily (but he would never get out of control). When i landed myself a decent paying job and was making more than most of my friends i would be a bit of a show off and splash my money around. With said friend, we would go out to restaurants every week and eventually he took me to dinner in a significantly more expensive place and i asked him how he could afford it. I found out his Dad was pretty high up in apple and had plenty of money. He told me 'he didn't want everyone to know though because he is more than just his money'. That tought me a huge lesson in being humble and respectable

Companies will charge more for services and products in more affluent towns, despite offering the same service or products for cheaper in lesser. If you fall for this scam repeatedly, you won’t stay rich long. If you act like “I don’t care what it costs,” well, then you won’t mind getting robbed blind. Check the price, and if you don’t agree with it, walk away.

I knew the manager of an old office building where I rented my first office back in the mid 90's located in a city north of Atlanta. He dressed like the characters in the 80's Miami Vice TV show, drove an old beat-up convertible caddy. Real cool older white guy, very friendly and talk to me like we were good friends. Very strange to me because I grew up in Memphis in the 70's, you understand. That particularly month was a very bad month and I told him I didn't have the money in the bank to cover the check but I was expecting a few checks that day from some of my clients. So, he wrote an address on a piece of paper and said "just bring the check to this address later." So, I did get checks from my clients, made the deposits in my bank and wrote out a check and delivered to the building manager. Wow! I just pulled up in a place that literally looked like the Beverly Hillbilly's California Mansion. It had the dual stair case after walking through the double mahogany doors and window pane glass to the ceiling with the swimming pool on the outside by the manicured lawn. You know he had the young beautiful blonde wife sunbathing in a bikini. Damn dude! All this on a building manager's pay? Well, I happen to own the buildings too, he said. Some of the very wealthy people may not give any indication that they have all of that wealth.

My Mom is an private health aide to a lady whose husband was a millionaire. He left her a trust for after his passing. His wealth transfers to his grandson. In their family it is tradition to pass the wealth by skipping a generation. So his son received wealth from the grandfather. Their home is nice, but modest compared to what I'd imagine a millionaire living in. It is also in a remote part of a beautiful state. The lady is very kind and even attended my brother's wedding. She sees her aides as her family in a way. She attended Vassar as a young woman and had servants in her home growing up. She was a southern belle. I've met her and her husband. Their clothes were simple but good quality, as is their home. Wealth truly whispers. Wealth is refined.
