Another Japan pro tip: buy dinner at the supermarket: they usually sell foods here at a discount when near closing. I was able to buy a complete meal: rice meal, salad, desserts and a drink for only 1000yen.

I have yet to go, but already looking forward to the idea of Breakfast at familymart, lunch at a conveyor belt, dinner at ichiran ramen and midnight snack at family mart, heck...Lunch/Dinner could be family mart as it is. (I used to be concerned about not being sleepy for the capsule hotels, but since I'll be walking a lot. That's how you tire yourself out.)

train isn't free :P but worth it. My last trip I took a day to "get lost" in Japan. Just take the train all the way around the yamanote line and explore and it was great. If you get lost, you can always get back. Japan is very friendly with helping foreigners. Police box will help you get back too your hotel or home stay or whatever. Taxi if you have the address-more expensive but easy way to get back to where you need to go. Just plan a day to "do nothing" and take photos. Collect stamps at stations too while you're at it!! Those are free. Bring a notebook or sketchbook and fill it up at every spot.

OMG you mentioned 7-11!!! I was just there and I loved that place! There and Family Mart. The food was amazing at both places. I know people think it's weird when I say that we ate a lot of convenience store food in Japan, but they have so many healthy and delicious options!!!! The snacks make it easy to eat. Tokyo is a beautiful city!!!

@@buildyourmoxie yes!!! I'm even missing the sound the walking signs make when you cross the street. Such a great experience. Everything was so reasonably priced. I know Japanese people are known for being thin. I think it's because they walk. EVERYWHERE. And they have healthy choices for food that are easily accessible. I will miss just being able to pick up milk tea and onigiri 😞

Get there 30 min early. Not a chain. It’s conveyor belt but small place where the chefs are inside the conveyor belt and you watch them 😍😍 Sushiro - it’s a common conveyor belt chain. Super fun to bring all ages! Can find easy on the map. The one we went to in Shinjuku was downstairs once you got to the place on the map Sushi zanmai - also a popular chain. Go there for lunch! Such great prices for all the sushi you get. It’s a normal sit down. Easy to find on map!
