I said in the late 70s early 80s "I'd never ever by a Škoda". I also said, "mind you, I think one they could be one of the best cars on the road one day". Then just over a year ago I saw this great looking car pull into our car park at work. I thought it was a BMW. I had to walk up to it to get a better look. To say I stood back in in amazement when I saw the badge is an understatement. I'm now the very proud owner of a Superb estate. The best car I've ever owned.

I've owned four Skodas since 2001. My first Fabia - a Mk1 1.9 Tdi - was probably one of the best (and quickest!) cars I've ever owned. I went on to own a further 3 Skodas - 1 further Fabia plus two Octavia's, a Mk1 and a Mk2. My second Octavia, a 2.0 Tdi Elegance Estate was a really great long distance car. I wanted another Skoda at my last change, but I couldn't find an auto in a colour or spec I liked. I now need an auto because of health issues, and ended up with a Golf Mk 7 Match auto. Good car, but it isn't really any better than a Skoda, despite costing more......... I am firmly of the view that Skoda now produce cars which are as good - if not better - as any others at the same price point. The new (latest version) Octavia could readily take on the 3 Series BMW for fit and finish. And I'd find it hard to see a potential EV buyer still going for a Kia eNiro once they had seen a Skoda Enyaq......... the Kia looks positively bland against the Skoda. It is good to see Skoda offering cars which are visually appealing, practical, and have the flair to go with it. And as many customer satisfaction surveys have verified in the last almost 20 years, Skoda consistently attain higher ratings than do VW, Audi and Seat........

Actually as far as I know, Americans really wanted Škoda to start selling there too, and some 500 models were sold in seconds, but in the end Škoda decided they didn't have the production capability to supply both Europe and the US. There was a plan to export 25000 Škodas, but only the mentioned 500 made it. Forever loving Škoda and the Czechs overall (Pilsner is the best beer in the world) from Hungary! :D

look, i personally think skodas are probably the most underrated car maker. people in the comments saying they're shit, without ever owning one. I own a 2007 skoda octavia 1.9tdi manual and my wife owns a 2010 skoda octavia 1.6tdi 7 gear DSG automatic. they are both absolutely bulletproof and never let me down. fuel consumption is hilarious, the 2010 consumes about 6 l / 100km (40mpg), while the 2007 consumes 4.5 l/100km (51mpg). very well built and engineered cars. the only slight problem in them is the comfort, theyre not bad, but comfort could be better ( to be expected from VW). Here's my thoughts about Skodas. I hope I helped anyone that is looking to buy a skoda... cheers

I saw my first Skoda in Brussels back in 09. I was amazed by it's beautiful styling. They have only gotten better. I can understand why VW wouldn't want to import them to North America. They would be very competitive.

I had a GL in the 1990s in Canada. It was a great car in the summer, but stupid things made it hard to couldn't handle in the winter, such as doors frozen shut (not just lock, the whole door) and a thoroughly inadequate heating system and rear window demister (they didn't even bother to call it a heater). But, it handled great, returned very good mileage and was much more comfortable than either of my later VolksWagens.

FYI: It's pronounced Shkoda, and the capital Š doesn't change the meaning at all. It's both 'Damage' and 'Too bad', regardless of the capital letter. Also Václav isn't pronounced as 'Vaklav', but more like 'Vatslav'

I own a 2001 Skoda Fabia. Although its engine is not that much powerful as it has 68 hp, I can confidently say that it stands out among the B segment cars. It's tough, solid and gives u a good feeling of safety. Great road handling, no rusty parts of hood considering its age, even looking like brand new when properly washed :).

@@ShelbyGT500- As a owner of 2008 Škoda Superb II I can confirm car's reliability for daily use, although you might wanna make your research of vehicle history (especially service history, if you're not buying brand new car - oil changes intervals, etc.). As far as engine goes; in newest Superb model 3 I could recommend diesel engines, especially those from with more power - preferably the ones which do not use AdBlue. From gasoline engines, 1.4 TSI seems to be good choice as well. If you're looking for Superb II (early models without facelift), I can recommend 1.9 TDI engines (coded BXE / BXL) - ideally if you can find early 2008/9 models without DPF filtration (managed to buy this one; as far as engine go, there is really nothing to complain about). But ultimately, your engine choice depends on how much kilometers you would usually travel per day; for shorter routes (up to 20-25 km / day) I would look for gasoline engine (mentioned 1.4 TSI engine), for higher distances the diesel is nice to have. Hopefully this will answer some of your concerns.

@@ShelbyGT500- Diesel engines are in general quite the power horses in Škoda cars; if well maintained and cared for, they will serve reliably for long time. So if you're asking me, I'd say that you picked well. Just for the safe side of things, try to learn engine code number a do some googling on it for users experiences - Škoda forums are very usefull sources of invaluable informations.

Yes, and I do think it's time that Skoda is to consider bringing their Market to the United States. After viewing your video, it looks like Skoda has overcome their obstacles and they deserve their place in the American Automotive market, at least do a selected sampling of a couple of the major cities and see how their sales go. If the Sample Sales goes well, then they could expand to other cities.

VW won't let Skoda and its stylish Spanish cousin Seat into North America for fear of loosing VW brand sales. Apart from bodywork & trim, other parts eg mechanical & electrical are shared with VW & Audi models. So servicing is no problem. Meanwhile Japan & Korea have the lower priced market to themselves. Thankfully with the freedom of the internet our American cousins can access info on these cars and many like what they see. I have had mine for over 2 years now and friends are pleasantly surprised when they ride in it.

Superb is such a dangerous rival for Passat that rumors say, that VW will move 4th gen superb manufacture (should be full electric / hybrid car) to Germany. The point being, that they are virtually the same car (Passat is by corporate decision a bit more luxurious of course) but Superb is much cheaper and bigger.

This is so sad that the the order was not in the favour of skoda in India. As a lawyer it feels strange like how a company like skoda which makes brilliant and lovable machines for people coudnt pay for a good lawyer. Monte carlo in India is into clothing production and skoda into automobiles they are registerd under dofferent classes of trademark which is self explanatory and is not at all bound to create confusion in a consumers mind as a consumer cant be asumed to be soo stupid enough that one cannot differntiate between a t shirt and a hatchback.
