Dragon's Dogma can be a tricky game to get the hang of. With so much thrown at you, how can you combat these monsters and dragons? Here I have compiled a list of tips and tricks that I thought were really helpful. Some of these came from fellow Dragon's Dogma players who commented on my last video. If you are struggling fear not as there are plenty of things you can do to beat this game. If you are breezing through the content, you might still learn a thing or two.
Set in a huge open world, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen presents a rewarding action combat experience. Players embark on an epic adventure in a rich, living world with three AI companions, known as Pawns. These partners fight independently, demonstrating prowess and abilities they have developed based on traits learned from each player. Users can share these Pawns online and reap rewards of treasure, tips and strategy hints for taking down the terrifying enemies. Pawns can also be borrowed when specific skills are needed to complete various challenging quests.

Okay so I just learned this, but all you need to do is keep the gold idol forgery in your inventory. Here's the explanation: {Carrying the Gold Idol (or a forgery) in the party's active inventory will reduce shop prices by 30%}

Heres a hint if you want lots of physical damage , go for assassin until 200 , you will be a massive glass Canon but will have the highest damage for physical damage Or level mage to 10,then go for assassin until 100 then switch to archmage or sorcerer you will then have high magic and physical damage but almost no defence

Rotten is suboptimal, but not useless. Any rotten item can be combined with an airtight flask, and then spring water to be restored to the original "kept" sate.

Another tip If you fight the Senechanl(after Savan) offline,the Senechal will be your previous Arisen including it's pawn.if you face the Senechal while online,then it will take on the appearance of an ugly Arisen of other players.

Word to the wise for those having trouble with the ambrosial meat and giant fish quests- for some reason, they can both be forged if put in the airtight flask

My biggest tip for Warrior players: you're not a damage dealer. You're a knockdown machine. You'll deal decent damage through consequence of knocking enemies down than to optimizing for damage, and your pawns will do better damage as well. So if you wanna play Warrior, remember: you're not there to have huge DPS, you're there to flatten fools.

Hey, great tips! You do not need to buy the Barbed Nails. You can find two in chests in the Pastona Caverns, just before and after the golem encounter (one is on the ground, the other chest is in the middle room below the bandits; go past the ballista on the roof of their hideout and you will see a cave below you). Just save before you open the chests because there is a chance you can get something else.

A tip I always have for beginners, for those creating a Mage/Sorcerer Pawn: At low levels, AVOID more than one Boon/Affinity spell. Actually for the entire game (except Bitter Black Isle) fire works well. Another tip is to avoid giving any Thunder spell to your pawn at low levels... because they will stun the cyclops before you remove the helmet. It's really annoying lol Also...There's really no challenges outside of Bitterblack Isle,to be honest.

2 affinity boons I find works ok as long as it's fire and holy. And I switch holy for ice if I'm hunting saurians and fire drakes. Fire and ice are weak against each other in Dragon's Dogma

Against saurians and fire drakes ice is way more effective than fire. Can't freeze large enemies, but still isn't resisted by the fire drakes. Haven't used dark that much cause I feel like so few things are weak against it to the point it's forgettable. Though undeniably fun to use on Mystic knight. And on my main account I got lucky with having my pawn used within a few days and she's just ruthless to the point I feel like I don't have to do much 😂😂😂😂. Got over a million RC (rift crystals) too which was nice

Don't throw out rotten giant fish just yet. You can actually turn most rotten meats into their fresh counterparts by combining it with an airtight flask and then spring water from a healing spring. Meaning that rotten giant fish can still be useful for the 10 fish quest

Its a shame that you cant use the rejuvenated fish to make Liquid Vim, but as you said, you still can use them to complete the Ocean's Bounty quest, and they still restore 800 Stamina

For the pawn layout, I always recommend experimenting with different vocations. At the beginning of the game (and even through bbi), a fighter, mage, and strider works well enough. Play around with different vocations and skills as you change your arisen's vocation. For example, I've been having a lot of fun with my warrior arisen using 2 sorcerers and a strider pawn. I take most of the agro and deal a good chunk of damage while the strider either helps me or deals with crowd control (also deals with enemies I can't reach). Which gives the sorcerers the time they need to spellsync and cast big spells. Honestly, there is so much to consider to "optimize" your pawn layout, skills, vocations, inclinations it really comes down to playing around and finding a fun setup rather than total efficiency.

Talk to the pawn Jonathan and buy potions that change your main Pawns inclination, it's far quicker than trying to get the right questions.

This is so easily missed by most players. Actually the whole inclination mechanics. I learned it from a guide because it's in the game and i was curious, while most players dont give a fk but complain with their pawns.

Johnathan, the pawn shop, also sells elxirts that force your pawn inclination, so you don't have to bother with the knowledge chair and can easily set your pawn to whatever inclination or inclination combo you want.

There are some fun inclination combos that are extremely difficult or impossible to get and keep without use of the elixir system. Knowledge chair honestly only really bumps your third inclination up to second place if you choose to.

you can get a pair of barbed nails in pastona caverns, in the thieves den near bluemoon tower, the good thing is that you can get those as soon as you reach gran soren, its better if you take a portcrystal with you and make a fast travel point in bluemoon tower for the griffin quest

Another tip is your main pawn will copy what you do often. If you loot a lot then so too will your pawn, if you just stand around and watch your pawns kill everything then your main pawn will also start to just stand around :P. This can also work if both of you have the same vocation. If you spam a certain skill a lot and the pawn has that skill set up then they will start using it more. Do note that this changes takes a lot of time so don't expect it to happen by just a few battles.

Hey, great tips! You can further specify your pawn inclination using items you can buy from the pawn in the encampment. The guy at 5:03 .

That. The conversation chair only let you switch between the first, second and third inclination of your pawn. These potions let you set any inclination freely -at some point in the game the vendor will also sell a potion to completely reset your pawn's inclinations. Use it then use one potion for primary inclination, one for second, then again one for primary, and you should be good. A rather important trick as your pawn's inclinations, often overlooked, are the main factor for how they fight. If your fighter pawn likes to loot in combat and avoid ennemies, or your mage pawn likes to climb monsters, that's the reason.

Personally I usually use a mage pawn if I'm ever going to use one. I just give him every debuff spell like blind, silence and grapnel then the staff so they self revive after a few seconds from the black cat. Pretty much right away you have a basically immortal pawn that's a really nice support while you can go nuts

It’s funny because my friend been telling me to play this game for years because he know I would like it but I just somehow never got to it. I start playing it two days ago and I literally played it for 24 hours shout out to my free up and annoying me lol, the game seems pretty perfect to me besides the traveling aspect they definitely need a mount on the next one. Buy inclination potions from Jonathan, the knowledge chair only gives slight boosts to inclinations, if you stack potions you can "lock" your pawns inclinations for a very long time before having to refresh them.

There is one really helpful, albeit niche, situation for the cinematic cameras. I learned this the other day when I was grabbed by a cyclops and would've been dead. But once your pawn triggers the cinematic camera, it puts everything in slow motion, even you. So if this happens while your grabbed, you can spam out your wiggle quickly while your pawn is literally just giving you time to get out of the grab. Probably more useful for keyboard & mouse players, but I thought it was cool. I was about to die and I was actually able to fill the wiggle bar from 1/3 full and break free during the cinematic.

Mystic knight, casting great canon with a rusty mace or rusty sword makes every orb possible to inflect tourpor it may not be instant but it has great damage a d distance with no stamina cost after casting.

You don't need the gold idol to get barbed nails, i don't have the idol but i have the barbed nails. And i definitely didn't get them from postgame madeleine since i have never seen her since like halfway through the main story. I am pretty sure that i actually got them the first time i was in gran soren since i know i bought an accessory that looked exactly the same but it might have been the one that buffs magic and strength. I think that happened because i did her escort side quest that's on the quest board in Kassardis and also gave her money once when she needed it. Edit: You can also use a bronze or silver idol for the Madeleine and Caxton Quests. You get the silver idol from a side quests on a quest board that makes you kill a certain cyclops. This Cyclops does not exist anymore if you have defeated Grigori. 1 Bronze Idol is in the witches house and a second Bronze Idol is in the cave of the guy that lives at the hill with the huge picture of a human. (idk his English name)

for pawn inclinations you can also buy inclination potions from Johnathan. decide what 3 inclinations you want your pawn to have primary secondary and tertiary (this one doesn't show). get 3 of the one you want to be third, 5 of the one you want second, and 7 of the one you want first. take all the potions in order 3rd, 2nd, and 1st. this will set your pawns inclinations. example i have a mage pawn. I set her inclinations to be 1st = medicant, 2nd = utilitarian, and 3rd = mitigator. buying the potions 7 medicant, 5 utilitarian, and 3 mitigator.

Did you know that even rotten giant fish combine with "Verdigris Concoction" makes "Liquid Vim". Also try Pickle Mushroom. Rotten Giant Fish are excellent for a few way more useful items fyi.

I prefer using the scarlet kisses strider skill cause I believe all yellow vocations can use it, except maybe ranger? For the rusted daggers and if I want to slow groups of the smaller enemies, I find having a mage pawn with a rusted staff or a sorcerer pawn with the Lassitude spell as it causes torpor in a bubble AoE about the same size as Miasma. There's a rusted archistaff for sorcerer, but it's a rare find in the sword and armor on the ground gathering nodes. I've also found a rusted greatsword in 1, safe to say all vocations have rusted weapons, it's just they're not always easy to get. Gold weapons when upgraded to 3 stars can silence mage enemies, but if you already have a sorcerer who can silence it's better to sell them for a good chunk of chaching. Especially if you use the sorcerer augment Suasion which increases the amount you sell things for. Not sure if it stacks cause I haven't tested it since on hard mode I get rich pretty quick as is 😂

To level up I get the flower and then I go to the arena in BBI. Once I have more or less four flowers I travel to BBI and find the first arena, there I start to fight all the monsters without fear. Monsters respawn each time you exit the arena. For a more challenging place, I go to the second arena.

Tip: At level 10, you'll have access to Advanced Classes. If your willing to spend early Discipline and need extra physical & magical damage reduction, you can unlock Warrior and Sorcerer for 2000 DCP, and for another 2100 DCP you can buy their Rank 1 Augments: Bastion and Awareness. Pricey early game, but the extra damage reduction can be helpful.

2:38 the game encourages you to get different vocations for your pawns. If you look at the icons on your pawns' name and on the mini-map, you'll see they're have red, yellow, & blue which correspond to the vocations' colors. 6:28 tip: gather fish during the night. The chances of getting of giant fish are higher. Also, the boat in Bloodwater Beach is the only source of Wood planks.

1- almost any food, just like the fish, are time sensitive. So here's the tip. DON'T CONSUME THEM! There are a HUGE CHUNK AND PLENTY OF ITENS OPTIONS TO RECOVER HEALTH AND STAMINA. ALWAYS BUY THEM, stock in bank until you have a good chunk. then, take them all, and rest a few days in the inn. fruits and vegetables will get moldy, meat will get sour and fish will get rank. THEY SELL FOR MORE THAN YOU BUY THEM, so you just making gold with it. But DONT LET THEM GET ROTTEN. If you just dont care about the gold, get yourself some airtight flask and make them the kept verson, so they wont get rotten and you can use them 2- that giant fish, you need 10 for one of the notice board quests. So save some of them 3- knowledge chair will NOT change your pawn inclinations. What it does is let you choose if you want to swap your second and third inclinations, Thats literally all. So if your pawn is a pioner shit mage, it will still a shit pioner mage pawn. To change this you need to use the elixir Jhonathan (the one mentioned pawn that sells stuf for rift crystals) and use them. Look up of videos on how to exactly use them since its not just a single use and done. 4- "Dont make your pawn a mage since there are a lot out there and you are better of with strider" BULLSHIT. most of the players don't know how to build one corectly, and they will suck or be useless. You know the "you want something right, do it yourself!"? It applies here. All other jobs are easier to build and make them least viable. Not the case for mage. I dont want mine just healing every miserable little health i lose and not using boon or doing damage as well. I dont want mine never showing up cuz he is trying to fight alone way ahead of me. I dont want one just focusing enemies and not healing anyone, i dont want mine TRYING TO CLIMB THE BOSS. I want mine providig the buffs i need, i want mine healing and taking debilitations off. I want him to buff ur defenses up. Mostly, its not the case, and that goes for xbox, pc and ps4 as i played on all of them. And honeslty, after that video, i feel like you are part of the "most of the players" that doen't know how to make a good pawn.

Iraklis isn't so much a general purpose weapon as it is a playstyle defining one. It interacts best with Warrior's multihitting abilities like jumping heavy attacks and especially Indomitable Lunge. Every hit has a chance to proc the 9x damage bonus of Iraklis. Indomitable Lunge with Iraklis is absolutely cheating when it comes to damage output outside of BBI

I like more having a mage main pawn, most people dont care or dont know what to put on them but is really easy. I just give her 4 spells (The utility Holy ones) and Legion's might so i dont have to go and revive her, the staff makes her inmortal and since she is not doing damage the low magic of the staff doesn't matter.

Rotten food are still useful, just poisons the user which may not be a huge deal at all if you have a pawn that casts debilitation curing spells.

I can never follow the tip of not making your own mage. If they don't have Anodyne, Halidom, Holy or Fire Affinity, and the defense boosting skill, I don't take them, and in my experience most mages don't meet the criteria, so I just make my own to avoid looking for one. Am I just picky?

The easiest and fastest way to upgrade your weapon, armor, coin, level, skill at once is by visiting demon's world, soon as this feature is opened to explore. In around level 5 this feature would be opened to explore. Not to fight and defeat enemies but to steal weapons, armors, and many other stuffs.

Do not underestimate the power of a well built Sorcerer pawn. With the right setup they can output massive damage especially when they have good knowledge of an enemy's weakness. Giving them Bolide, Gicel, Maelstrom, and High Miasma will enable them do crazy amounts of damage. You basically do NOT want the High versions of those first three spells though, because they take forever to cast and even though a player can choose what version of a spell they cast by how long the button is pressed, pawns will ALWAYS go for the highest, longest-to-cast version, which can be a detriment in more chaotic fights. For a good support spell, kit them out with High Spellscreen and they will do a good job of shielding the party from really deadly late game status effects like Petrification.

Best tip is take your time. Rushing to level cap doesn't help in fact it might be a detriment considering how strange DCP and class ranking is. For some odd reason I've had instances on normal where at level 40-50 I have maxed class rank but on hard am only half way go cap idk what is up with that.

You earn more efficient DCP from enemies that give lower exp.

You can keep the wyrmking ring and it will boost spell casting speed for mage, sorc, mystic knight, and magic archer. It will stack with articularity. You can also gift the ring and be able to repurchase it from black cat even after finishing the quest. You dont need to equip the ring, having it in inventory is good enough.

Height will likely affect it just due to it being up so high. I think I kept my character as the main model height and was just barely able to reach it.

Nah, he meant that since you get the godsbane at the end, you'd use it the most in the NG+ simply because you already have it. Althought the cutscene at the very end implies that you JUST got it, instead of having one from the dragon kill.

Random Question about elemental damage. If the Weapon has an Element, but the Skill i use has a different element (e. g. The Magic Bow uses Thunder, but the skill Sixfold Bow uses Ice), which element is used or are both elements mixed?

Skills override elements. Your basic attacks will be lightning for a lightning bow. If you use six fold bolt it will change to ice.

I disagree with you about the main pawn, Mage main pawn is better - you can set what magic you wanted for specific quest or in general - finding the correct Mage pawn in the Rift could take time - Mage main pawn is setup is cheaper than other vocations My personal favorite is Holy and Dark, it is more like a Priest than a Mage. Holy buff provide healings, with Affinity each attacks heals. With Dark, Blearing can blind the enemies, Silence them and Grapnel is good against monsters.

It's definitely going to depend on preference for sure. If you are wanting to get the exact elements you may want to main a mage. I only use holy enchant no matter what, so I opted to switch for strider myself. Grapnel is really really nice. Just started using that on a pawn recently and its awesome.

Additionally if you want to play mage/sorcerer yourself you sooner or later want to sync up your offensive spells with at least 1 casting pawn, due to group intoning. 4 Sorcs with High Gicel and High Maelstrom can be quite... interesting as chea... playstyle!
