Here are some really useful Tips & Tricks for Dragon's Dogma. After playing through the game I quickly fell in love with it. Even so, there were times I got frustrated with my lack of damage or understanding of quests. This guide should give you a bit more understanding of the game and what you need to do to conquer it. Dragon's Dogma 2 recently got a trailer and if you have not played the first one, hopefully this gives you the motivation to do so.
Set in a huge open world, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen presents a rewarding action combat experience. Players embark on an epic adventure in a rich, living world with three AI companions, known as Pawns. These partners fight independently, demonstrating prowess and abilities they have developed based on traits learned from each player. PC users can share these Pawns online and reap rewards of treasure, tips and strategy hints for taking down the terrifying enemies. Pawns can also be borrowed when specific skills are needed to complete various challenging quests.

If you are using your main pawn as a healer mage, you should go to *The Black Cat* and check out the *Legion's Might* staff. It will make them functionally immortal (it has an auto revive effect)

Its worth mentioning with that heal spells have fixed strength and don't scale to weapon or stats. So a the healing is not weakened by the low stats of Legions Might. (attack spells on the other hand...)

Legions might is a double edge sword, while it's good for revival but if your pawn is the only one using magic your gonna dread for survival when fighting an living armor, so casting a few ingle isn't bad I often make my mage pawn tanky at early lv so she won't die so quickly and then rest has a sorcerer

Another tip, it's not as big for casual playthroughs, but for people who like to min/max more : The vocation you are when you level up affects the stats you gain. So if you level up while as a sorcerer vocation, you will get more magic damage, while if you level up while as an assassin, you'll get more physical damage. So if you get to the max level as say, an assassin, and then try to play more magic oriented classes, you will be significantly weaker at them than if you spent more time playing magic previously. This also applies to your pawn. And another thing I thought of when writing that is that the smaller your party, the more exp you get. EXP is distributed between all 4 party members, even though your support pawns can't level up, so if you remove them and it's just you and your main pawn, you will both level up faster, and if it's just you with no pawns, you will level up *much* faster. And when you bring your main pawn back after leveling up a lot, their exp gain is massively boosted in order to catch up and maintain your level.

​@@sdermbender5072 if you're trying to min-max thing, then yes since sorc have higher magic atk stats per lvl than mage (forgot how much since its been so long since i play DD), but it'll compensate with higher magic def per lvl i think? 🤔 Better google it if you want to build specific stats since there'll be difference on lvl1-10, lvl10-100, and lvl100-200 in stat increase iirc

@@sdermbender5072 Honestly don't worry too much about min/maxing your stats from leveling up. Your gear and your augments matter far more for damage than the handful of stats you get from leveling. When I play Mystic Knight, a class that scales damage mostly from magic. I level up mostly as fighter and ranger for the health and stamina growth. Even these stats don't matter a ton. Stamina is what ever, because liquid vims temporarily remove stamina drain, and getting one shot is highly unlikely near the end of the game once you have gear. Outside of attacks that one shot you no matter what, which you can't stop anyways outside of not getting hit by them to begin with. Even when you do get one shot, the revive stones are so plentiful in the endgame. I often have so many they tank my weight, so I sell them by the dozens for tons of cash.

This is my tip, when you defeat beasts(usually wolves) you might get almost rotten meat, combine this with a knife/fang/harpy claw to get dorsal fat, it doesnt go to waste and gives you massive stamina up until endgame

You can also turn it into oil flasks. I think you get like three from combining back fat oil with an empty flask.

BBI tips: Traveling alone often warrants you with better rewards, especially if you don’t pick up all the loot. As a mystic archer, before I open a chest I will fire off a ‘ricochet hunter’ if a maneater is hidden in the chest the bolt will bounce back and knock you free. Bring the Godsbane blade once you’ve acquired it, don’t like the loot, use the blade, it resets the chests but also the man eaters.

Don't forget the augments that lets you do more damage if you travel solo in BBI. And I think MA has immolation, which scales with strength, and helps with that stupid man-eaters.

Pawn management tips: Your main will mimic your actions if you are both the same class. If you want your pawn to heal more than attack as a mage, play a mage same time as your pawn and heal more often. This applies to any class or skill. You can adjust your pawns behavior at anyone of the training chairs found around the game, usually at inns or safe. You can tell them to be more independent, focus on strong/weal enemies, focus on materials gathering etc... You can set augments for your main pawn also- remember to change your pawns augments if you change their equipment or class. If the assist camera becomes too annoying, you can turn it off in the settings. Magic archers get a skill called Sacrificial Bolt/Great Sacrific. Using this skill will greatly increase your damage, but kill one of the pawns in your party. You can still revive the later at a summoning stone. You can bookmark your favorite pawns so you can easily summon them again later. Very useful for getting specific skills on lawns without having to search for hours to find the right pawn. There is a glitch in the game that can cause your main pawn to level up much faster than you. If you move to an area your pawn cannot easily reach it will start trying to find a path too you and any enemies it kills on the way will give it bonus experienc. This works best when you toss your pawn over a cliff or bridge and there is no easy way back up. There a couple of places in the catacombs thos works great at also. If you give any of your pawns empty vials they will fill all lf them up the next time you reach a healing spring. When fighting the magic golem, its best to be a class with physical ranged attacks, like a strider or assassin. The magic attacks of the other classes inflict very little damage on the medalions and your pawns will not attack the medalions 99% of the time. Ogres will target any female players or pawns first in any fight. Keep that in mind if you are looking for a healer pawn and plan on fighting any ogres. And lastly- you can play catch with your main pawn. Pick up any critter, like a pig or a rabbit and toss it to your pawn. They'll catch it and sometimes throw it back. Keep reapeting this and they will learn to toss back anything or anyone you toss to them. I always enjoyed a game of catch with pawn tossing the nuns at the Abby back and forth.

Wolves using hit and run tactics and ganging up on prone characters, harpies swinging around for flanking or rear attacks, even goblins throwing stones to try and stun you while their allies try to swarm you. It's pretty impressive.

Speaking of upgrading gear: You do NOT need to do every tier! If you have the materials for a later upgrade tier, you can skip straight to it. So if you have an unupgraded weapon, you can go straight to tier 3 provided you have the materials and gold

Just another thing about food storage: Use an "air tight flask" to preserve food for longer if youre going to use it. I always use it for larger fish and large beast steaks because they restore your stamina by a greater amount. And in this game, stamina is what youll definitely want especially when climbing and attacking monsters. The downside is it makes the food heavier to carry, but thats why we have useful pack mu- uh Pawns.

A beginner one : grapes and apples get sour before rotten, combine with flask of water and you get wine. a very good early game healing item. About scort missions, one way to cheese it if you have one portcrystal and the eternal ferrystone is to see where is the destiny go there and put a fast travel close

A good thing to keep in mind when leveling up you and your pawns vocation is that because of how the system works, the less xp you get, the more discipline you get. The best ratio is at around 100xp. You can easily farm it when you first enter post game. To avoid spoilers for new players I'll just say you farm the quickly respawning enemies you can fight after returning to gran soren after the quest "the final battle"

2 tips for dopr glitching: If you are strider, ranger or magic archer, you can use one barrel and simply dodge roll without the need of a second barrel. The ring of dessication can be gotten early, you just need to glitch through a wall from the door above that one. There are videos on how to do it properly. Another tip is make sure you help Quina in the witchwood. Once you meet the duke, she will have relocated to an abby and have a quest for you to appraise a flower. This flower will double exp gains. It will wilt however after a few days. Easy fix is to slap it in the warehouse and sleep for 3 days. Copy it from the black cat, so you have a back up just in case. Dont summon warrior pawns. Try to get a fighter pawn with rank 1 shield summon (rank 2 takes longer). Pawns have incredible perfect block rate and a fighter pawn will be a good asset. Also magick archers magic rebalancer is free periphats.

Spring water is one of my favorite little mechanics of the early game and resolved my tendency to hoard half a dozen different types of HP curative. Put a port crystal at the spring location and give your pack mules a bunch of flasks...and then angrily take them back and do it yourself when they decide to go fishing instead.

Really noteworthy weapon from the black cat, the force hatchet. Use it with an assassin and you can build your stacks before using the damage bonus on your bow. Especially dirty since you can use blast arrows with it

About horns... you need to attack the head of the dragon, as the horns are located on the head and around the neck. While the head isn't a weakspot of the dragon, damage is localized and head damage breaks its horns. Said horn fall to the ground the moment they break, so you might want to look around the battlefield after the fight, to see if there are horns.

Ah, the Magick Archer is probably my favorite class in any video game. And yeah the ricochet skill - without any buff, destroys ANYTHING that's in a small-ish closed room. And this is especially powerful in BitterBlack Isle since there are much more closed environments there than anywhere else in the game. The only thing I could never kill was Death. But this was over a decade ago, and now with DD 2 in proper development, I'm tempted to try playing Dragon's Dogma 1 again.

I always refer to the Dragon's Dogma Wiki whenever I begin quests to ensure I don't miss anything. Ironically enough, I didn't follow anything on the "The Final Battle" for the immersion, and nobody told me that you get really good weapons after defeating Grigori based on the weapons you are using on that fight as a reward. Now I'm stuck with my half assed magick bow since I fought him as a Ranger. Magick Archer was supposed to be my go-to for BBI.😑

This is a fun list. 😄 Thank you for taking the time to make it. I'd like to provide a few additions that'll help the positive experience along. - Don't be afraid to explore the map and all the nooks and crannies. Sometimes, there's an item or resource needed that can only be found in one spot, literally. The map is beautiful, so see what each cave hides, jump behind the pillar in the ruins, etc. Push the limit of your exploration. - Utilize the pawn exchange system. When you rent someone else's pawn, you have the option to not only provide feedback on the pawn but gift items to the other player before dismissing the help. Be kind and gift some good stuff, especially if you find yourself using the same pawns over and over. - In Bitterblack Isle, accumulating rift crystals is essential to cleansing cursed gear. Be mindful of this and get as many as you can. Also, when farming the best cursed gear, look for the maps and tutorials online for which chests and monsters drop them. Take the Godsbane blade with you, save before opening each chest, and if the algorithm didn't provide what you wanted that time around, use the Godsbane, load your save, and try again.

Some of the early escort quests are nice. If you play Warrior(definitely the "worst" vocation, but still playable for 95% of bosses), you can get one of the best pre-Dragon Longswords from an Escort Quest extremely early(Gryphic Victory from Ser Berne in the Encampment, has a Level 16 requirement, otherwise inflicts stamina use on regular attacks). The best part is that Ser Berne is stronger than the player at that time, so he can kinda escort you to Shadow Fort and help you clear the quarry of its 3 ogres.

Small tip for magick archer: Shoot your ricochet arrows at the ceiling to maximize damage. You’d think any wall would be fine, but something about how the bounces work makes the ceiling the best target

4:00 in all honestly dont do that segment if youre new to the game,if you go to bitterblack isle early by lvl 1-5 with throwblasts, not only do you massively lvl up,beyond the basegames scaling, you also run the risk of finding singular weapons in non-glitch random chest loots that will carry you to the postgame by their lonesome.basically what this enables is the equivalence of fighting a 2star village quest velocidrome with a fully upgraded and augmented fatalis sword and shield. its a fun of its own category,, but the awesome combat experience this game is hailed for will be nowhere to be found as you just melt any and all opposition in the basegame

12:45 you forgot to mention that the Cursed Dragons have higher chances of Dragonforging equipment when compared to lesser dragons (Firedrake, Frostwyrm, Thunderwyvern)

Fire and Ice elements are very good elements to use. Fire puts a burning dot, and Ice freezes a target with enough damage. A good thing to farm for is the cyclops armor. It regens health and each piece stacks. Dragon forge it and throw it on a melee pawn and you have a tank that never dies.

For the "Desiccation Ring" you don't need moonbeam. Go up top. (where all the little spiders/snakes are) If you're standing in the center, do this trick in the courner to the left, the one just before you jump across towards the waterfall. Bit of a fall but you'll get in there.

The Black Cat's ability to forge duplicate items also comes in handy in specific quest sequences regarding key items, or for planning ahead for New Game+ by getting certain items in advance and speeding through particularly long or dull quests the second time around.

You can kick the ox that takes the hydra head to gran Soren. Bring a mage and do damage to yourself to have the mage heal you while you run in front of the ox to heal it🙂 I hate that quest and learning this made it a million times better

Secret is to be a mage there and just switch to whatever when arriving at Gran Soren which is where you are going anyway. As a mage you can constantly heal the ox without waiting for your pawn to do it bc they can sometimes wait quite awhile. Being a mage speeds this up so much…

Yeah, this quest is a pain. I was half way to the first gate you need to open when I decided to run off and hit one wolf that was away from the horde that was attacking up, my character lunges at it and we are good. I turn around and suddenly the full hp ox is down to less than 5% when it was previously full hp. I am sitting there baffled at what the hell just happened. I honestly have to guess, but what I think happened was a pawn grabbed an explosive barrel and lunged it onto an enemy and hit the ox. I just facepalmed and started letting myself get injured to save the ox. It worked and I am not relishing the idea of doing ANOTHER escort mission. I haven't played the game much, I am only as far as the capital city, Gran soren (i think?) but I already see the game offering more escort missions and I am questioning why they made any more after the first horrific one.

Also to touch more on the escort quests, I travel to said places on my own like Bloodwater Beach, Shadow Fort, etc, place a port crystal down, then from there you can always fast travel with your escort making easy XP and gold 😬

If you wait and do not fight the hydra at the first camp, and disarm your pawns so they don't attack it either, it will eventually get you to a cut scene that will grant the third star for your pawn in their bestiary. Also, in the very beginning throwblasts are your best friend in bb. They can do damage even if you can't. If you can make it to the first arisen camp they are laying around everywhere, tons of them. Also, you can usually outrun bb enemies if need be.

How i deal with escort missions, is if you know where npc wants you to go, go there before accepting the quest, drop a fast travel point. Return, accept the quest and use a fast travel stone. Both you and the escort will travel to the destination avoiding all the danger. Very useful especially for the npcs that are more civvy than soldier

Also a tip to get better gear from bbi the way the game works is when you purify gear you get gear based on the vocations in your party and it will pull from that vocation pool so if you want gear strictly for yourself don't purify gear until you're playing solo

I recently start the game and I did the exp ring strat. Other advice should be to check the starage (the dark arisen version), in which you can find a eternal ferrystone, and some very good gears. The 2nd advice is to upgrade you and your pawn abilities, then switch to other class to get good pasives and abilities.

An important thing to note when it comes to making your main pawn. You may think it's a good idea to make your main pawn the opposite of your player character, to cover more party roles, but this is sort of a trap. This is because your main pawn's AI will learn and adapt over time based on your playstyle. This is your pawn's inclination, and it is a very in depth and complex system that determines how your main pawn fights. To try and simplify it, if you make your pawn a mage for support, but you're a warrior, you'll end up with a mage that constantly tries to fight on the front lines. Or if you're playing a ranger or sorcerer, and you make your pawn a fighter to tank, you'll end up with a fighter that refuses to engage enemies and likes to hang back away from combat. For best results, make your pawn the same archetype as you: ie if you're a ranged class make them a ranged class, and if you're a melee class make them a melee class. To round out your party to fill the roles you and your main pawn don't cover, use hired pawns from other players. Alternatively, in the camp where you first make your main pawn at the start of the game, a merchant will appear there that sells potions that manually change your pawn's inclination. This way you can "fix" your pawn if they pick up bad habits from your playstyle that doesn't fit the class you've assigned them. However do note that the potions are not permanent, so if you do choose to go this route you will need to pay attention to their inclination on their stat card and go back to buy more potions when it starts to shift again.

The only thing I don't like about this is that means you might have to level your stats in ways you don't want. For example if you wanted to go assassin, but have a healer mage pawn, that means you're probably gonna sacrifice levels playing as a mage.

On the note of Healing items; Small nuts are the best healing item by weight, healing for 50hp per 0.01g of weight, and is only beaten by Kingwarish(a healing herb found only in BBI) which heals for 55hp per 0.01g. If you like traveling light, don't mind spamming the use item key a few extra times, and don't want to fatroll everywhere, carry as much as you can.

Another trick for Bitterblack is that ur pawn class can affect the rewards for bitteblack armours, weapons and rings. If u want a melee weapon lv2 or lv3 for the Ranger (for example), it’s better if you change your class to Strider o Ranger, the same for ur main pawn. Save the file, purify the objects and if u don’t like the reward, just reload and try again. The same is if u are searching armours. Magic weapons and armours= change to Sorcerer or Mage; Daggers, bows or rogue armour= use Strider or Ranger; One handed swords, two handed weapons, shields, warrior armour= Fighter or Warrior. Now, if you want hybrid things like great shields, use Magic Knight and Warrior or Fighter on ur main pawn. The same for the rest of hybrid vocations. Enjoy this awesome game!

I always load up on spring water bottles. You can take 20min to farm out 100+ and leave them in your inventory. If you then give them to your pawn and give them 30 at a time and the medicant (I belive is how it's spelled) inclination, they will automatically use it as soon as your or another pawns health gets low. With computer level reflexes they have kept me alive thorough some crazy encounters especially when you get caught in a long term damage effect (like dragon fire or posion) they will constantly re-up your health and keep you going. No need to take a mage in the party especially since I like to only have my character and main pawn with. Now we both take useful classes.

Bitterblack isle is a good place for farming dragon materials and getting your equipments dragon forged at the same time Since its much more easier to encounter a random dragon in the dlc than in the base area Just be sure to stock up on martyr talisman, blast arrows or throw blast Martyr talisman gives you a weal buff Multiplying your exp gain So its basically a win win situation BBI is a good farming place

Precisely in the video miniature, the arisen is using a hand gear specifically for the purpose of climbing the enemies, they have the effect to augment your grip and the velocity to move on the target, they are obtainable in a secondary mission, its an obligatory yes because they have good armor when maxed even in later stages of the game. If you are a warrior or derivated, another option is a special body armor obtainable in another secondary mission, the solar armor in the day keeps you healed, Its a good temporary option while you try to obtain the inmortal armor (inspired in hydras regeneration), that keeps you healed all the time, enjoy your travels arisens!

The door glitch are good but the weapons you will find is limited until you reach a certain level otherwise you will lose stamina at every action you perform like normal attacks wich makes fights harder even against goblins

Another tip is to always keep 1 port crystal on you at all times. When you put a crystal down you can then use a Ferrystone (There is an eternal stone in your storage once you get to Gran Soren) to teleport back to it at any time. If you keep one on you, you can place it down in the field to go back to town to sell, place it at the end of an escort mission to teleport your escort with you, or farm a monster by going back to town and resting a few days to respawn it.

I got a door glitch tip, use someone with dodge roll. put the barrel up to the corner of the door and start rolling into it, mid roll, unequip or reequip an armor piece as you roll. It worked way faster for me than hopping with a barrell

Tip for more consistent door glitch. Unequip everything on you except head gear, do the glitch jump about 2 times and on 3rd jump as soon as you land, hit esc and unequip your head gear, then press jump + move forward :) It works 99% of the time for me.

Here's some actual little known info that might help you out. First off if you've found one those teleportation crystals that let's you fast travel anywhere you place it at then go to the western side of the map to a place called blood water Beach. If you come here at night you'll get two or three spots with guaranteed giant fish from each one, but only if you come here at night. Also any item that becomes rotten can be rejuvenated in a sense if you combine it with a flask and then combine it with spring water, so with this you can have an infinite supply of giant fish to make liquid vim for infinite stamina. The other ingredient of liquid vim can be bought if you gave Madeleine (the chick you escort to the fort in the early part of the game before killing the hydra) a bronze idol (which you can find in the witch's hut I think). So congrats, you now have an source of ingredients to make liquid vim, the infinite stamina drink.

Also meant to add two other things, the fish respawn after three or four full days so you can go there at night, pick up your fish, go to an inn, sleep until night three to four times (I do it five times because getting things to respawn in this game like harvest spots specifically, is finicky as hell), collect your fish again, rinse and repeat. Then if you need money and have progressed far enough in bitterblack isle to the first moonbeam gem door, yeah fuck that, because we aren't worried about it yet, lol. You're gonna want a class with thief as a skill so you can steal items. Go to the room you got the first moonbeam gem from and just continually pickpocket the chained cyclops. Run past the enemies in the room, use thief on the chained cyclops, run back out the door you came through, go back in, steal from the cyclops while ignoring the other enemies if any, and rinse and repeat (you may also want to invest in the roll, because you will be weighed down in seconds and after that, rolling is the fastest way out of there). The items you steal from this cyclops can get you in the millions in seconds and considering you can fast travel while overweight in this game and items gained with thief aren't affected by the one penalty being overweight in this game has, which is you are supposed to lose the ability to pick up anything when overweight, like if you drop something and you're still over the weight limit, you can't pick it back up or say you're overweight and completed the quest for aneled pale, the quest reward will be on the ground, but yeah thief completely ignores this because the items you get from it are added directly to your inventory. So you can steal as many items from the cyclops as you want as long as you reload the area by going back through the door you came in and then entering again after you steal from the cyclops, you just need to roll to move around quicker after a certain point. So to reiterate, your money runs should look exactly like this. Run to the cyclops, use thief until you can't steal anything from the cyclops anymore and take care not to hit it with anything other than thief, after you have stolen everything possible from the cyclops you should bee line back to the door to exit the area and then after you get out of there, turn back around and take that poor man's life savings, then rinse and repeat, lol. To make this process even easier and to ensure your pawns don't piss off the cyclops (because he can and will break his own chains just to bitch slap you back to gransys should you push him enough), unequip your pawns weapons and equip them with thief too if you can, as they will also steal from the cyclops and I don't think it counts towards your loot from him so you can increase your yield from each run at least by another half (they're ai is still shit no matter what you do and only use thief every two to three runs, honestly I'd take Sheva's ai from re5 over the pawn ai). Now go young padowans, use the knowledge I taught you wisely and you will prosper quickly in this game.

Oh and tip number three is a glitch that let's you get infinite rift crystals all the lol 3 bitterblack artifacts except for gear I think. Progress through bitterblack isle until you beat daimon. When you beat him, instead of going out through the shortcut back, go the long way by back tracking to Olra. You'll either get a glitches cutscene to play or nothing will happen, don't worry if it's the latter, it's normal when you're doing this. Now you can go back to daimons boss room and the room with three or four chests will be blocked again by a gate as if you haven't killed daimon yet but he will be nowhere to be found. Hug a crate and place it by the gate blocking the chest room. If you placed it right then you should glitch into the barrel and if you roll (yes, you'll need assassin for this) then you'll eventually glitch through the wall and into the chest room. Loot them all for either bbl items or rift crystals plus another guaranteed moonbeam gem in the middle chest. Now go back to the gate, grab the crate through said gate (you just need to be in a close vicinity of the crate while also facing it), then you just place it in a certain corner, roll and then congrats, you're almost done here. You just need to go back out the door you came through to refresh the chests and rinse and repeat until satisfied. Now if you want to get out of this glitch either because you now have millions of rift crystals or you're so overweight from bbi items that you can feel your characters knees exploding, all you have to do is glitch through the gate like you normally would for the glitch and then go through the shortcut back to where olra is. Just a warning though, if you go through the game after using this glitch and forget to turn it off, then you might not be able to dragonforge anything until you do the glitch in another playthrough and then turn it off there

I ran into the same exact problem when I went there. It felt like enemies took no damage and I would die so quickly. Turns out weapons make more difference in this game then stats. At least if you don't play only two or three vocations. Doing that one quest for the weapons changes the game entirely.

Note for the wyrmking ring quest. You can steal the contents of the chest at night. It is a cloak that makes it very hard for an equipped pawn to get controlled by dragons
