As an autistic person, I don't liked being hugged or touched without someone asking first because it can cause me anxiety or sensory overload. It is a good idea to ask someone whether they want to be hugged or if their body language looks like they may be uncomfortable with a hug. I will keep all of this advice in mind should I ever befriend a system.

Essentially, treat each altar as you should treat EVERY HUMAN BEING (because each altar is their own person): WITH RESPECT!!

Each alter is a piece of a person, including the host(s), not entirely separate people. But they should still be treated with respect and empathy.

7:20 - I've had this issue with friends before thinking it was funny when I'd flinch or get startled. I never really said why it bothered me or made me scared (not really a conversation I wanted to explain to them), but it did affect my trust towards them and the anxiety I'd get sometimes while around them. You'd think it would be obvious that people who flinch or get scared are doing it as a reaction to something negative, yet for some reason, some people just don't think that way. Also, great video. I plan on sending this video to a few friends tonight. I think it would help them better understand our roles and the etiquette everyone inside prefers. I'm sure it would help answer some of their own questions too. :)
@Chaos_gamess2 жыл бұрын
I don't really see how people can find that funny, I myself don't have DID but I don't find that funny if I see them get startled I'm gonna be like "are you ok?"

People should definitely be more in tuned when you flinch. Also, it is helpful if you can use your words to communicate what is going on for you.

Thank you so much for all you do, literally yesterday, at 22, I found out that I am a part of a system. I believe to be the host and that I have OSSD. I , we, are so scared and confused and without all of this information I don't know what I would do. I don't have access to my therapist due to the Holidays and your videos are helping me, Olivia, and hopefully our system so much. I thought I was making this up but I,Olivia, don't think that I am anymore. I met 5 alters yesterday and experienced being co-con with 3 of them. I looked up how to communicate with your system because I felt their pain and feelings and they met my husband and they all had such different feelings towards him. It was so scary,but I felt so much love. I just want to learn how to communicate and let them know I love them too and I do understand they are real and I'm not "the original" they are them and I am I. I hope I can learn to validate and get it through to myself that I am not the only one dealing with this. That I too am an alter. They have thoughts and feelings and my goodness. They've been silent for so long, I can't imagine how that would be. Thank you so much, I can't thank you enough. I might spam this comment honestly, I just truly want you to know just how safe you've kept me. How much your videos have calmed my husband. I really can't put into words my appreciation. Thank you again -Olivia

A really great guide to common etiquette for interacting with system-mates/alters. :) Especially the touch and the snapping, I think many people assume those are grounding or will help a person "break out of it", but obviously that is not the case for all (probably most) alters or systems. thank you for this! a few months ago one of my best friends revealed to me that they are a system. i am doing as much research as i can, but i’m so scared i’m gonna say something offensive or distasteful or ignorant on accident. i’ve asked questions in the most respectful way possible but i’m really scared i’m gonna screw up. i’ve only met about 2 of their alters and i believe the interactions went pretty well. i’m gonna try my best to make my friend feel loved and try my best to be a good friend bc i understand they’ve been through a lot.
@jessicalingo43469 ай бұрын
I really like how you gave alternatives for requesting an alter out. I also say use their desired word usage. What i mean by that is some systems dont like the term alter (i dont. I use split) or some splits have different genders (or even species) and dont use the bodys gender as their pronouns. For me a trigger is people coming up behind me and touching my wrists. Im ok with hugs. So each person is definitely different. Thank you for these videos. Its definitely helping me with my own life and helping with my confusion around my did (undiagnosed but on the road to a diagnosis). These videos are very important to me

Last night I had my first experience with someone who didn't know till then they were a system. I know what caused them all to come out. I won't share obviously but it was heart wrenching. I'm coming here to learn how I can support my friend while they get used to being not only a system but a coexisting system that isn't locking the others in so much. So far all the alters like me. Even the host seems okay with me and they don't come out often. I look forward to learning from you so I can be a better aunt/mom friend to this system and all of the alters in it. Even the standoffish folks in the system

I don't know if anyone else has posted this in the comments yet but when you had trouble thinking of the third thing beyond Fight and Flight Response, I remember in my research that the third thing we can do in that response is FREEZE. So while I can't personally relate in terms of DID, I can empathize with the terror felt during the Freeze Reaction. You are stuck in what you want to run away from but can't. I'm sorry that people have done that to you 😔 But hey! You're back to help me learn about making a new group of friends at work! Keep up the good work! And thank you for all your advice and wisdom. You're amazing to be juggling having this disorder while managing a KZbin channel AND in a relationship....with ANOTHER system?! You're practically running circles around me and keeping me inspired!

Any tips on how to work together and move forward and become stronger together are really greatly appreciated... my relationship with my wife is hanging on half of a hair, I want to understand and her more and be a better supportive and attentive husband to her. So , i looked this video up to try to figure out how to help myself. i find that after i do some personal therapy i feel foggy and lost - like i don't know who i am to the point of feeling dull for days to a week. it's very disturbing. i don' t know how to connect with everyone inside, i really wish i did, and how to know if someone is fronting -sometimes i feel the someone near or sometimes more than one - but there are many and i'm caught between not wanting to assume one over the other kind of thing. Thank you very very much for this and other videos you do and reupload. I'm quite new to this, to Your channel, but I've already leaned a lot. It is important for me to know well how to respect everybody and this helped me out a bit more, yet a problem I have with lots of people around is that I'd love to respect all their needs and support them, but they're almost never able to tell me, if I do something they don't like or worse... And I'm not sure if that're just the few cases I got to know or if it's usual and if there's some way to make it easier for them to open about it, other than reminding them that they can always tell me if I do something I shouldn't. (sorry for my grammar, am not an english speaker ':D)
