I'm watching here from the United States (Southern California). I grew up racing 125cc two strokes (Intermediate class). This kid put in one hell of a ride. I also wrenched for former factory racer Jeff (Chicken) Matiasevich so I understand what it takes on the pro level. This kid will make a name for himself........I promise you haven't herd the last of him. You have a new fan youngster 100%.

Going to be fun watching this youngster grow and make his way to the front. Did you race 125 int when chicken was an int? I think I may have raced with you. Your name sounds familiar. I raced chicken 125 int 2 or 3 times,had the lead on him in a few motos,held him off, but he always ended up winning. Sucked! Bothered me because he was the only guy I raced several times and couldnt beat,and he was a year younger than I was,making it more irritating,lol. Man his bike worked well,I was envious sitting behind him watching how well his suspension worked and how his rear tire stayed hooked up on the fast rough stuff while mine was bottoming out and bouncing all over and up in the air. Good times though!

@@mototrials582 Yes i raced against Matiasevich when he was an intermediate. I was and still am friends with the Matiasevich family. I know what you mean by being frustrated racing with Chicken, and him being so young. He was 15 years old and smoking all of us intermediates at the time. He did have good bikes back then with some trick factory parts on them. Rear shock and linkage and a lot of titanium nuts and bolts. I built the motors which had been ported by me along with pro circuit pipes, fmf reeds, lectron flat side carbs, milled head and some trick ignitions. What is your name because if you raced with Chicken i'm sure we competed with each other?

@@mototrials582 We raced against each other at deanza. There was a time when i was leading the 125 intermediate class and you had crashed or something early in the moto. When i came around to lap you, you slipped in behind me and started to bang bars with me. You most likely had been frustrated from what happen to you early in the moto. I remember this because it was written up in cycle news. You were a good rider. I still have the write up from cycle news. @@johnnybonacci7114 Thanks,I would like to read that article. Sorry about being a lapper and racing with you while leading! I hope it was coincidence and timing that led to that. They should allow 150cc 2 strokes compete with 250cc 4 strokes and 300-325cc 2 strokes with 450 4 strokes. That would make for some good competition and diversify the field a bit.

In the UK and Europe that actually do allow 250cc 2 Strokes to race against 250 four strokes...Wal's main focus for the year is the European 125 championship hence why he's decided to stick with the 125 in these national races. Thanks for watching :-D

Good job bud. you got a great future. I love the camaraderie at the end of it you know. I'm 44 when I was racing, when I was a kid, we did that all the time ,then there has been this period of time where riders just don't give each other respect . And before I get a bunch of hate mail I don't mean all of them, but it' was a good majority for a while.i think jett Lawrence is a perfect example of a young Rider that does it the way it's supposed to be done. he's bringing it back to the old school respect with new school technique

Every young rider should race 125 before 250f, the skill set found riding a 125 will be such a benefit once they are ready for the 250f. The momentum needed and skill set to ride a 125 fast is becoming a lost art and you’ll be much faster than someone who didn’t ride the 125 first.

Kinda like public school a waste of time for a smart kid, but they are stuck there anyway. I think I am seeing a bad pattern here. I can see the dysfunction in just about everything already. :( I can't stand SX tracks in the USA because they are designed to keep everybody the same speed, and our national tracks used to scare me, but not look fun for this 58 year old vet. My oh my, where did our "greatness" go? Personally, I think the opportunity was stolen from all of us, in everything just about. I will never say it is about losing though. I know what that makes us.

On a lighter 125, you have to out brake them going into the corners, and keep as much speed through the corner as you can. I am sure the leaders are faster up the hills, but I think you can still out break them going into many of the corners on the more nimble 125.

I like that track more than any of the "Sand nationals" in the USA, (that I have reason to believe the FIM forced on 12 different land owners over time.), and I love the sand. I love the freedom to build your track the way you want more though. The track is a bit fast for my tastes in some sections, but I love the natural parts full of odd bumps and many different types of corners. You want to be pro in the USA? With good starts, just get good at whoops and rhythm sections for SX, and sand, ruts of our nationals, (assuming you all can jump, as everybody on a pro gate can.), and you are in with then rest of the racers on the same second. You understand why so many racers are on the same second, right? They are not really that equal in overall talent,---just in the whoops/rhythm sections and redundant national tracks that are now loved by Vet racers. Yea,---the FIM really did a number on the USA, and par for the USA course of history,---we let them.

They only make smoke when the jetting is rich, (makes some when starting the engine), which also is a loss of significant power. 2-strokes with a carb are sold rich on purpose, so they will not fail with different air quality around the world. Not many people know how to jet the carb well, even in the 2-stroke days. I remember the Pontiac Silverdome, a weekend of Pro racing with amateurs after. The pros would race both nights with just a little haze in the dome. The amateurs would fill the place up with smoke in 2 races. :)

The AMA, (slaves of the FIM actually), when asked over 20 years ago by the rest of the industry if they could overbore a 2-stroke to be competitive, they were denied. You will now make and ride what the EPA/FIM will "allow" you to make and ride. The only way around it is to start a new industry, and keep the outsiders out of it.

Nope. That looks good to me. What he needs to work on with that lighter 125, is out braking the heavier 4 strokes going into the corners and doing the corner faster,---on his line away from those guys. He rides very well, and really, I don't expect him to ride a 2-stroke to it's limit with all the controls. I don't think there are a lot of people who could still do that,---when this kid was born. The skill to ride a 2-stroke today, probably stops after the 80cc bikes. I sure miss the 2-strokes in pro racing. It took more skill IMO, and it was better/safer racing IMO also,---having been there.

Is this yet another European/FIM advantage over the USA? We can't race a USA national until you are 16. I notice you still have works bike parts too that the USA has not enjoyed since 1986. We still beat you for the next 8 years though. Or did Europe lower the pro age because the dysfunctional FIM policy can no longer fill a 40 rider starting gate?
@johncamara1650
@johncamara1650 2 жыл бұрын
There's no reason that the 125 two stroke isn't more competitive than the four strokes in expert hands..they make the same power and the 125 is lighter. Manufacturers will continue to pay top riders to run four strokes, so the best riders will continue to run them. As for the 450's, by engine math the four stroke would have to be a 375-400cc to be equally powered to the 250 two stroke. Or the two stroke would need to be 325cc or so to run against a 450.
@EarthSurferUSA
@EarthSurferUSA 2 жыл бұрын
The engines, this is more of my profession, and as a engine builder myself, (small 2-stokes) and experience in MX since 76, I am actually a bit amazed, (but understand why/how), that a 250 4-stroke actrually makes the same power of a 250 2-stroke, both about 45hp. It has been taught for decades that a 2-stroke typically makes twice the power of a 4-stroke with equal engine displacement, ("engine size", for today's college graduate.). But for MX/SX, that is not true anymore. The 250 4-stroke now makes 45 plus hp, and the 450's are hitting 60hp, (just like a 250 and 500cc 2-stroke). Now this is what I figured out on why the 4-stroke is still a better engine for the dirt, even though they make the same HP. The 4-stroke has a wider range of good strong usable power and it takes more skill to keep a 2-stroke at a good power point in a narrower range, (so they shift more also). The 4-stroke amazed me in MX that they actually equaled the power of a equal displacement 2-stroke. We were all taught that was not possible, but it became reality for MX, here it is. Now I do know that I can get more power out of the 2-strokes. I have seen 250cc 2-stroke Honda street engines stock, (V-twin) that made up to 90hp, and the exhaust port was really close to as wide as the cylinder bore. The power curve would get too peaky for the MX and be very hard to go fast on with 90hp. So the 2-stroke can still make almost twice the power of a 4-stroke with equal engine displacement,---but not in MX and win.
@EarthSurferUSA
@EarthSurferUSA 2 жыл бұрын
The problem is really that the government pushed the 4-stroke on us with the epa and the fim to kill the dirty dirty 2-stroke. Intervention like that always makes our free market dysfunctional. I think we can actually race equal displacement against each other and be competitive while lowering the cost of competition. But it is not our choice anymore. That choice was stolen from us.

@@EarthSurferUSA Official numbers still have the 125KTM at 37.5 and the YZ250F at 39. The ktmsx 250 two stroke has 50. We've been bullshitted by the rest. The reason the 125 and 250 are comparable from a 2x displacement is because they are close in rpm...the four stroke with an extra 1000rpm. Where the problem is is comparing a 250 two stroke to a four stroke. The 250 two stroke is down 3000 rpm on a 450 four stroke and that's why the 450 makes more power with even less than 2x displacement. So a comparable four stroke, considering rpm is around 375 - 400cc. The numbers are spot on. Hp= Torque x RPM/5252. So RPM is every bit as determinate of hp and comparing two and four strokes as displacement. When MotoGp brought the 5 cyl 990cc to run against the 500 two stroke they had 18,000 rpm against the 12,000 rpm two stroke which gave the four stroke an easy extra 40hp. We were again bullshitted. When MotoGP lowered the four stroke displacement down to 800cc to slow the bikes down, they simultaneously banned the two stroke knowing all the teams would go right back to the two stroke. Same power, way lighter bike. So in MotoGP the equivalent bike power wise to the 500 two stroke is 800, not 1000. Funny that when they stopped racing the 125 in Gp they were getting 60hp from the 125 two stroke road racer.
