Yep guys, we're out here. I've been homeless for 6 going on 7 yrs? Lol.. it sucks... When your out here you start to loose time, meaning you don't value time the same, you just think about the important stuff such as food, sleep, warmth, and safety. In the beginning it was easier to keep it straight but next thing you know it's not. I took me a year before TRUMP became president to get my spinal surgeries set up, then suddenly..... it halted. Everytime I saw the dr suddenly they wanted tons of tests.... EVERY MONTH... repeatedly and redundantly.. I blew up, 2.5 yrs of the same damn tests. I reported them to the BBB, Medicare and the primary insurance program I was on which is Molina. I had continued issues at finding a pain dr as well after my dr decided to retire suddenly. When your homeless drs and staff think your all druggies, alcoholics or whatever abusers. 1) only meds i take are prescribed 2) We rarely drink if not at all. I raised my son with him seeing his parents as teetotalers. Well his father was an alcoholic but his stepdad never touched it though he didn't mind if I did. Only time I drank was at a club and not driving... tge odd thing is ... I'm usually the designated driver.... sooo... because I was, if i did drink, it was early then none for 4 hours ... and never drunk or even tipsy plus I was dancing all night long and drinking free soda afterwards. 1 time i was pulled over because the cop saw my car not stop at the light before the line.... Seriously it was a mechanical problem.. Earlier that day my master cylinder started acting up. I was restoring a 78 firebird... I had most everything except my brake system done. Anyhow, I had my screwdriver, a thing of brake fluid and a rag tucked near the master cylinder. Ironically when it didn't stop until I pumped on it, once i did stop, i looked to my left and a cop was sitting at the light and I was lucky it was afterc1 am and noone was on the roads.. imagine if there was? I backed up and then drove when the light was green. He pulled me over and surprised I was honest.. lol. He automatically asked what happened, asked if I had been drinking, I said yes, he then asked what.. I looked at my watch and replied, 3 long island's before 7 pm and soda there afterwards. I even had my designated driver sticker on my collar. BTW, this happened after 3 am.. lol . Sooo. .. I asked if he'd mind if i got out and opened my hood? As he watched me open it a secret way, I snapped open the master cylinder and vwalla!! It needed to be topped back up. He looked at it and everything i had done in the car, smiled and said, looks like you care about everything enough to not drink and drive but you be very careful with the car. My new master was ordered and was ready Monday. I ordered it Friday, we danced Saturday and told the officer it was on order, repaired Monday, so no more driving after that night. The officer said he'd msg CHP to not stop me due to the issue but if they can, follow me to make sure I got home safely. My car stood out from others back then too.... it was a Corvette White, like a super striking electric blue white. Basically it glowed in the dark.. lol. Only black trim at the bottom below chrome trim. Everyone thought it was a TA. Anyhow, my son and I have always something around for winter sore throats, colds or ? But we don't drink ""To get drunk or for fun... EVER"" my son works FT for the last 5 yrs... this job for 2.5+ yrs now but we can't afford to rent. The moment we finally can afford to rent, i need to have $$ to get my belongings from another state in storage. We lived in another state and my son couldn't get a job for 3 yrs. He even went to school for a mechanic tech vs finishing college. I helped him get to a job that was supposedly a guaranteed job... the guy actually told ME he had it. Such a liar.... he put us in the streets living out of my 4 dr Geo Tracker. Imagine sleeping in that? We use to offer to help others but found they'd leach off ya. 1 guy literally just jumped in my car, laid down to sleep without asking. WTFREAK!! Was right.. after that, I refused to deal with leaching suck ups. I found its best to only communicate with the churches or into the things we did. My son and I do our own thing. We don't need the added stress or hassle of others wanting to leach up. Before I had my surgeries, I ended up with 2 surgeries front and back.. anyhow, I was getting really unstable standing, i didn't have a walker or anything and was refused to receive one until my surgeries. So between the users and the standing and walking in the dinners, I needed to destress/blood pressure thing, an the users.... which always sat at the table with us every time they wanted something. Seriously!! It was bad and odvious. So my son was bringing me dinners. Ya know, not very many ppl want to walk all the way my truck to ask for help after that. We parked usually in shade even if its at tge furthest spot from the church supper. Now life is in Motel's. I miss cooking especially holiday. I had my surgeries a yr ago Aug. Tons of metal from C3, 4, 5, 6, 7. T1, they mentioned T2 also... i nerd to reverify though. I have a friend that traveled from Oregon/north California to Hawaii and back, and down to San Diego where we all met. But because the pandemic the livraries closed... homeless can't email, text etc with friends without them. Its like trump wanted to do this ... Whats next guys?

I was homeless before. It was a an unpleasant beast. I was homeless through no fault of my own. I was college educated, had no children, and had no drug/alcohol/mental issues (I’m mentioning this to eliminate the stereotypes associated with homelessness.). However, I was determined to come from that situation, and was able to do so in less than a year. I purposefully avoided the shelter system, due to the reasons that she described in this video. Also, what she didn’t address about shelters is the fact that homeless people often abuse each other. They beat on weaker people, steal from them, and sexually abuse them, with the shelter system doing nothing to protect these people....almost like prison. It didn’t take me long to realize the fact that you cannot come from homelessness by surrounding yourself with people in your situation. So, I opted to live out of my car instead, managing my own needs, and keeping my appearance up to a level in which people never thought that I was homeless. I was treated better and more quickly received the assistance needed to rise above my situation, including a job. When I got my job, I continued to keep myself neat and clean, although I was still living out of my car. I had a post office box for my mail. I had a gym membership for shower/hygiene, as well as laundry, etc. I participated in various “sleep studies,” for a safe place to sleep during inclement weather. I also kept college textbooks with me, so people would always think that I was a student studying for an exam. Most importantly, I was super friendly, helpful, and nice, which was critical for getting quick access to resources to rise from homelessness. As a result, when the weather was uncomfortable, I got to sleep in public areas, such as law libraries, universities, and such. Someone always paid/validated my parking, gave me “hookups” on vehicle maintenance, and gave me hotel and airline vouchers to go out of state to look for jobs. But, I knew that it would not last forever, which pushed me to work harder. Fortunately, I got the job offer of a lifetime in another state, and I was able to leave that situation. Not everyone is that fortunate. I remember my experiences, so that I won’t forget that I could find myself in that same situation again.

I dont understand, back in march when the pandemic 1st hit and nobody was allowed outside, they made it happen with homeless people, found vacant hotels and let them stay there, turned parking garages into individual set up rooms for the night, why did they shut that down? Obviously it can be done...

Yeah, but no. Actually it IS the government's job to take care of the homeless and help the poor get BACK on their feet again. The U.S is $26.70 trillion in dept. Besides Eritrea the U.S is the only other country in the world to tax it's citizens who don't live in the country....which should tell you something. As the richest country in the world the U.S has the money but it would rather spend it on other things besides the people who need it most. One day, the system will completely fail if it continues on this path.

Agree 50/50, the governments responsibility is not to mother civilians, but the education system is so broken that this is a sad reality. TEMPORARY solutions like Food Stamps, Low income housing, unemployment checks and Wellfare are being used as LIFELONG support. The education system does not teach kids to be INDEPENDENT but to be DEPENDENT on the system. When you have a government that missed the Mark on the most important thing, things start falling apart internally.

I love how articulate and smart she is. I'm going to share my journey- which could easily be hers. I grew up in the countryside in an abusive home. My mum got sick when I was 12. By the I was 16, I had lost my mum for ALS, fled my violent father, filed a criminal case against him (at 15!) my brother being anxious about all this at 18 drove himself to a massive brain damage (to this day), I was living alone, was drinking too much, getting abusive as well (verbally also sometimes physically), severely depressed. I've thought this a lot. BIG BIG DIFFERENCE; I was living in a Scandinavian welfare state. I was granted free intensive psychotherapy; 3 times a week for 3 years. I was able form an identity, forgive my father, graduate from high school (despite pretty much missing the first 2 years). I'm calling this therapy a lifesaver. That's what it really was. My father and I were super close for at least 10 years. He passed away 2 years ago. I've fought my way in the system. You can get lost in it here too. The weaker you get the harder it hits. I'm super happy I'm better now. I've always been intrigued by prison documentaries, crime documentaries and such. It is so much down to luck in the end. No one is born to be this way. Remember that.

I'm Disabled, a Veteran, and have been homeless for two years. I'm not a drug addict, just lost my housing two years ago when the Apartment Complex I was living at was sold to a buyer in Toronto, who promptly notified the tenants living with Section 8 or VASH assistance was given the option to move out or pay full market value rent. I found while looking for a place to move to, that most low income housing was eliminated in this same fashion by greedy investors. I bought an old van on payments and was forced to start living in it. I did so for a year and was offered a tiny fiberglass trailer on payments. I found that the person I bought it from had mislead me on a clear title, and have had difficulty getting it registered and legal to tow. I have been stranded at a Recreation Area, above Kingman Arizona for seven months now trying to get repairs done to my van. It is no longer safe to drive, and definitely not suitable to tow my trailer. It has been a living hell, upto 128 degrees at times this summer, now dealing with freezing cold at night and heavy winds. Every time I try to get some repairs made, something comes up. I bought a used generator which failed in a couple weeks, had to buy another one, then my emotional support dog Archie was badly bitten and required veterinary care, my air conditioning compressor failed in my Van, I cut my knuckle to the bone and ligaments on some glass discarding some trash which resulted in an Emergency Room Visit. I have been trying to get help, and have not much success. I was accepted for Rapid Rehousing through the Catholic Charities, but have searched all over Mohave County but found I cannot afford an apartment on my disability income. I am now in a panic as I was notified by the Catholic Charities Caseworker handling my information, had their computer stolen and now my personal information has been compromised. I am on a waiting list for Section 8, basically started over. I did not choose to be in this homeless situation, and have been doing my best to deal with everything I have experienced the past 2 years. I had to literally give everything I owned away when I lost my apartment EVERYTHING!, I did try and keep my many tools, but those to were lost by a "friend" who was going but keep them until I get settled, but would never respond to my calls or texts. I am absolutely sick of my life. I don't live anymore, I merely exist, and it's not much of an existence. I have not showered in nearly 8 months, and haven't bathed in over two years since losing my apartment. I have reached out to every VA organization or service center for help, but am ineligible. I served 6 years in The Air National Guard, and was honorably discharged, but still don't meet the requirements as I was on active duty for well over a year with Avionics Technical School, and was activated during Desert Storm, but could not deploy with my unit, as I was a 3 level technician straight out of school. I have no family for support, no friends, only a few people I have met while being homeless. I have had a fellow vet brings some water bottles and food items several months back, but I don't see how I can ever get out of my situation as my limited income doesn't suffice..

This woman is obviously intelligent and clear-headed. I understand that accommodation can be so high in some places that it's nearly impossible to break the cycle. I feel so fortunate to live in a city where I could pay my rent even if I worked at McDonalds. I wish I could bring her here and set her up.
