You’d be stopping to pull the weeds off it though, as someone who canoes canals. This is the optimum weedless propulsion set up👍

An idea to keep the chain tensioned better is using a small springloaded chainwheel to keep pressure on the chain. It can be used to keep the chain guided better as well.

Greeting 👍 I think it would be simpler, safer to make a classic paddle wheel like the Mississippi River Ships had. Just add 3 more bars to the bicycle pedal support and the efficiency is much higher. To my kayak (KAJAK SEA SAIL) I added a main furling sail of 2 m2, made from a shower curtain, some water pipes and when the wind blows, I unfurl the sail and it goes without capsizing. I will soon add a roll genoa to increase the speed.

Hello! Paddle wheels are excellent for taller boats as they only become efficient with relatively large diameters. Small diameter paddle wheels push water down on entry and pull it up on exit causing the characteristic splashiness and inefficiency. The other downside of paddle wheels is that they have a permanent draft and would get damaged in the shallow waters at the start of the journey 👍. Love the sail! Popped one on my latest build (episode came out last week) ⛵️🚴♂️🛶🚀🚀

Cool. Genial system. go away and make it more compact. Congrats! You will need a ruder
@ben-kilner5 ай бұрын
Working on MK3 at the moment 👀 it may have got less compact but it does do other things too! The rudder system on this worked really well and I’d probably do the same again. Having it mounted further forward allows it to act as a keel in side winds and a side thruster when stationary. Also super simple.

A derailer to keep the chain tight would be useful 🤷🏾♂️ other than that. That's an amazing build🙂👍🏾
@ben-kilnerАй бұрын
🙏🙏 I found that the introduction of a derailer anywhere in the systems prevents water braking and reverse. A simple roller tensioner with a strong spring would have been ideal 👍

You need a rudder and a dagger board attached to the hull on the gunnel.
@ben-kilnerАй бұрын
I found that the tiller worked amazingly well and acted as a retractable dagger board and a side thruster when stationary 👍

maybe a Narrow Wide Chainring for your chain could help?
