Thanks, you inspired me to cut down my Terrova 60” shaft to 48”.
@robertbrittain26633 жыл бұрын
As an alternative to cutting the shaft with hacksaw you can also use tubing cutter This will prevent scuffing the wires in the shaft
@zaragosazuniga7613 жыл бұрын
That is a good idea.

Slip a piece of tubing inside the trolling motor shaft to prevent cutting your wires. John

Or just disassemble it properly and use a sawzall. Further, the second set of butt splices wasn't required. Under the factory heat shrink are spade connectors. Could have simply cut that heat shink off, pulled the spade connectors apart, and put a new spade connector on the now-shortened wires. That's the proper way to do it, and is how it's done by dealerships since shortening of that motor shaft actually *IS* supported by MinnKota, and properly done, will not void the warranty. Note that this can only be done on Terrova-style trolling motors, it is not supported on Ulterra-style motors with the automatic trim.

Great job, but I think you installed the head backwards. When you disassembled the unit the long end of the head was pointed to the right and the cable was on the left side, but when you reassembled the unit the long end was pointed to the left and the cable was on the right side. I don't know if that will make any difference as to how it will steer, but you might want to check that out.
@ChrisG99782 жыл бұрын
The head is on correctly - the rear of the head (where the curly wire comes out) needs to be lined up with the prop on the lower unit (motor). The prop always "pushes" toward the rudder on the lower, so the front of the head points toward the direction the prop is pushing the boat. See 21:00, front and rear of the head is properly aligned with the front and rear of the lower unit.

Good video. I just bought a Terrova and the shaft is longer than I want. I’m not going to cut it. Mostly because of the warranty. I’m a retired firefighter and if my smoke detectors were beeping in my house or shop, like yours are, I’d have to drop everything else I’m doing and deal with it. It’s telling you there’s a problem, don’t leave them like that people.

Rather than cutting the 2 wires Cant you just cut the shrink wrap that's there and unplug them? Then you only have 1 splice.
