Don't even 2JZ's have to switch to full billet blocks once they get to this kind of power/RPM? I guess the uprated girdle and main blocks must make a big difference, but how much can a stock Barra block actually take!? That piston assembly is practically porn - really impressive how far the high end Barra stuff has come in recent times.

@@260nob9 without destroking the engine wont rev as hard. the stroke is currently too long relative to the bore size.

@@260nob9 rod angle is a big problem with high boost engines. the turbo maintains a high load on the piston all the way down the bore. so when the the big end is at it's widest point the rod is laying horizontal which tends to snap them . destroking reduces the flattening angle.

@@brendo7363 Does a compound setup actually make more power earlier on those? Every time I see one done on a gasoline powered car/truck it always seems like it makes the same or slightly worse power than it would with just a big single. Good idea but I rarely see it executed well.

The Bedford build was one of the best builds on KZbin due to the amount of re design / build of parts to get the Barra in. I am really glad this build is back it’s going to be very interesting.

That moment of the 2019 Drag Week where you needed to find an engine shop in North Carolina and Robbie came in and was the hero of the day was excellent. The spontaneous hospitality of the American locals was excellent and would do the same.

Thanks for sharing so much technical detail. Especially the part about the fire ring crush over the gasket thickness. I've talked to so many "Pros" about this over the years, and frankly if they work with RB's they shrug their shoulders. Half the reason I've been o-ringing instead, which comes with its own set of issues.

I pulled mine apart myself last week, engine out, valvesprings, studs, billet oil pump, HD timing chain billet sprocket, Full exhaust, stage 2 intercooler, air box, 1000cc injectors, external gate, fuel reg. gtx ii 3584 turbo 460 pump. Just dropped it off for the tune. Hoping it comes back 400kw on 98

There is a guy in WA that has manufactured a Alloy Barra block. Id love to see a build with that. The future of Barras will eventually have to be custom because they ain't making any more of them. (Wonder who has the original cast molds etc)

The conversions crack me up. Then again I'm an American engineer, so I live my life going between the units. So, 1.34 hp/kw, so 1340 hp. Also 0.220" is ~5.5mm at 0.040" is ~1mm. That's the easy off the cough number. Love the destroker. Cool build.

The copper/bronze gasket reminded me of the same trick done to my Kawasaki big bored bike back in the eighties, as no gasket existed for this mod at the time. I had a copper ring and groove in barrel, just annealed it and apply torque. Cant wait to see this engine in action, interesting build.

Apart from the specific made tapered ring compressors (which only fit one specific bore), I think these deceptively simple plier-type ring compressors are the best. 500+ engines further and I still use the same one I bought 25 years ago. Tweak them a bit conical and store them with care.

it's called hard blok, there's heaps of good info online but the blocks water jackets are filled just under the waterpump height, its done before any machining takes place. and if can if you overfilled or if the filled unlevel. hope this helps
