INFJ here. I've only ever been in toxic relationships which I've had to escape from and cut off contact with them (as much as possible)...when I finally realised I couldn't have that toxicity in my life anymore. I think the only thing worse than emotionally doorslamming is physically doorslamming before you're emotionally ready. (Seriously though, those abusive relationships are so addicting, I'd imagine being on drugs doesn't feel too different. It literally feels like going through withdrawals: yeah this person might make me feel like shit, but I just can't wait for that next high.)
@marcwemtrust14803 жыл бұрын
Wow, so you never dumped someone or did the door slam? I think that maybe ENFJ and ENFP also are like you told there.
@sassylittleprophet3 жыл бұрын
@@marcwemtrust1480 I'm not sure what you mean exactly. Most of the relationships I'm talking about were friendships, I probably should've clarified that. The only romantic relationship I've been in ended in my leaving and divorcing him. I'm still learning to not tolerate abuse. Also, by now I've doorslammed a lot of people out of necessity that I didn't really want to doorslam (abusive parents, toxic siblings, toxic friends, my ex-husband). My first time doorslamming I didn't know what was going on. I felt the emotional doorslam deep within my soul. This relationship was so damaged and damaging that I literally felt like the emotional cord between us, to make me care about and love this person, was severed as if it had been cut with scissors (clean, precise, sudden, over). To this day, I cognitively wish him the best, but I couldn't make myself emotionally care about this person even if I tried (and I did try). Like if I heard anything good about his life, it's whatever; if I heard anything bad about his life, I couldn't care if I wanted to. The first doorslamming wasn't my ex-husband by the way, although his doorslamming was similar. It didn't feel as emotionally violent though, with my ex it was like a switch flipped in my head and heart (married to unmarried). Just like that, simple. My most recent doorslam was the case of when you physically doorslam before you're emotionally ready. I knew I had to leave because she was abusive (story of my life). I didn't want to leave, but knew I needed to, and my survival instinct kicked in hardcore and took over. She was really fun to be around and I still consider it one of the best and funnest times of my life, even if it was also one of the most toxic. To this day, I still really, REALLY miss hanging out with her, and I can't tell you how many times I've been tempted to go right back to her place...but I know I can't. Things wouldn't be the same, and things were never entirely okay either -- she was manipulative and grooming me the entire time, from the very beginning. She wanted us to be together, but I never saw her that way. And in spite of everything, I still miss her: it's been almost 6 months at this point, and we were only friends for 4 months. And then there's most of my siblings. I feel like I'm doorslamming them temporarily, they're still living with my abusive parents and so they're toxic by default. With them, I can't really be around them anymore without being triggered by something, and they remind me of my parents so much I hate it. Any interaction I have with my family ends with my mental health spiralling REALLY badly. My two most recent interactions with my family was a well-meaning but homophobic letter from my cousin (she's a prime example of a good person who believes awful things, she really is one of the most loving people I know). Right before that, I didn't go to my Opa's funeral because I knew meeting up with all my family again would end extremely badly for my mental health. When I bailed, my brother sent me a text basically saying that I wasn't the sibling he knew and loved, I had changed and he hated it. He technically texted me a link to the song "Who" by Lauv and BTS, which was also a dick move because BTS is one of my favourite bands, and now I'll never be able to hear that song without having painful memories attached to it. My mental health spiralled: I had a really rough next 2 weeks of depression, barely (if at all) able to get out of bed, almost zero energy...it was horrible. And I didn't even GO to the funeral. I wouldn't be surprised if, had I gone, I would've become suicidal after returning from the funeral. There's no winning when it comes to my family. Also, I realised this is really detailed and super long. I'm sorry if you actually read all that, I didn't mean to get longwinded.

To my INFP gang out there, if you're in a toxic relationship, it's OK to let go. Most times we think that we can change a person with our love like they do in books and movies, but in reality? RUN. People only change if they love you. Don't worry about hurting them when you leave the r/s; they will probably cope better than you do. - from another INFP

Hi deborah, me ENFP-Turbulent, thank you for telling us. I thin If a beiing really loves you in a unconditional way, than they try their best to make the relationship shining and making both feeling well and trying to learn and changing and avoiding mistakes and hurting, draining actions, words, whatever. But what I learned is, that honesty and clear communication really is basic for all relationships, no matter if family, job, love, whatever...therefore selfawareness, communication, reflection and understanding self and others becomes more important. Thanks for your honest words.

I never broke up with anyone (my ex-girlfriend broke up with me, that's different), but there was someone I was interested in earlier this year. We were talking, and I hoped we could go steady, but then she dropped all communication with the world, including with me. Next time I saw her (months later), I let her know that we couldn't be together if she won't talk to me. I shook her hand and wished her the best in life. Yeah, we ENFPs still try to lift people up, even if it's not best for us to be _with_ them.

I’ve broken up with people in all the IN ways, and the only one I can recommend is the INFP. ”Space” makes hopeful people think it’s a break rather than a breakup, ”you know me too well” has people trying to hold on to you ”for your own good”, and waiting for the other person to break up can take a very very long time and is a waste. Though if you run out of patience and actually spit out a ”I want to break up!” and manage neither to take it back nor soften it in any way, I guess it is quite as straightforward as ”I do not have romantic feelings for you”.
