That's because according to Jung the T and F are rational functions that we use to make decisions, whereas N and S are irrational functions that we have no control and are automatic, they serve to absorb information from the outside world in real time. As Fi has certain similarities with Ti they can be confused.

As an INFJ, I think kinesthetic intelligence is certainly my trouble spot. I think I would move INFJ to "Likely" in interpersonal. I think a lot of people who interact with INFJ can think they're excellent communicators, but I think INFJs themselves don't typically feel that way. We have a hard time accurately conveying our ideas. It certainly varies from INFJ to INFJ, but those of us who lean heavily into the Ni and somewhat neglect our Fe can often feel misunderstood. I think this signifies a lack of an ability to communicate effectively.

As an INFJ dancer and artist, I think we have decent kinesthetic intelligence, especially if it's put to creative uses. Or we would, at the very least, be good at the spatial intelligence talked about in the pinned comment. Seeing something play out in our minds before attempting it definitely helps us to perfect our physical responses as we go or before we even do anything. For instance, I can choreograph dances in my head and assess how certain moves can be applied to the body without actually moving. Then I get into the studio and say " let's see if this works like it did in my head" and most times times it does. I am also correcting myself as a dance and making mental notes about the ways I can change my execution for future attempts.

As an INFP and a professional translator, I can definitely second the high linguistic intelligence… but I think INFPs belong a bit higher on the interpersonal intelligence scale because of the high empathy, which is also a fantastic motivational tool and gets things done just as smoothly as the best of pep talks.
@tsubomi67752 жыл бұрын
I wholeheartedly second that! Btw, also worked as an interpreter until recently, now I'm studying to become a special education teacher... I think anyone can say, that both fields require very good people skills, and I was always confident about both of them, mostly because of my high level emphaty... Maybe matureness or the amount of life experience counts a lot when it comes to interpersonal intelligence with us INFPs, but I would say too that we have great potential in this area... Also, we are scientifically proven to be the best listeners amongst all of the types, and (despite or besides being authentic) we also concern about what other people think about us quite a big time, what gives us quite a decent amount of motivation to try our best to act towards others so no one thinks negatively about us... 🙈 The other side of this is that we are also very-very-very considerate about other peoples feelings, it's like such a "base setting" of us probably because of Fi + Ne, that I would have to be especially strict to myself if I would want to put this automatic empathy aside... And with Si gaining more experience, it can use to navigate social situations more and more succesfully, being able to put ourselves in basically anyone's shoes without the slightest effort. Hm, it's already getting quite long, but i just realized, that INFPs are literally called the "Mediator" type, wich in comparison with putting it in the "possible" row... well... doesn't feel right... (Sorry for ending it with possibly the most INFP thing to say 😂)
@alexisleonard38462 жыл бұрын
as a healty INFP i totally agree my interpersonal intelligence is highly likely and that is for a fact!
@Harkz0r2 жыл бұрын
Having thought about it, I can agree with 'likely'. I do far better with individuals than groups, but if I really connect with someone, I know I can be empathetic, sometimes insightful, occasionally not completely unfunny... well, y'know. I'd like to think I'm a good judge of character. When the defenses come down, I can really talk openly, and while I do have a passive streak, if I like you, I'll be there for you come hell or high water - you have but to ask. But at the same time there is a certain small handful issues I feel strongly about, so sometimes people might feel like they're stepping over an invisible minefield with me in some conversations. I can become anxious and insecure, and go through cyclical phases of being very outgoing and energetic and very withdrawn. I also have the tendency to get stuck in my own head way too easily, even though I know, logically, that people aren't mind-readers. So I would say that I have the potential to connect with people very well, but in reality that isn't always the case. It doesn't stop me from wanting to, though.
@gide62122 жыл бұрын
It is crazy to me how he overestimates the intelligence of an INFJ vs INFP. Maybe we (INFPs) are masters of acting under the radar since attention seeking is contrary to our ideals. I am INFP-A and I have two INFJ-A family members around my age (25 yrs) I have to say that their slow comprehension, relative to my own, annoys me. It annoys me because INFJs have this subtle arrogance that most personalities won’t perceive. INFJs are below the INFPs ability to read people like open books. Not even the mischievous ENTP with their chameleon traits can fool an INFP. We unconsciously notice every social cue. My dearests friends are INTJ and INTP, and they become frustrated with the slowness of my INFJ family members. From personal experience, INTP are geniuses with INTJ being a close second. The INFP and ENTP are tied in third. The INFJ is in fourth. This is from personal experience and observations. The only thing that the INFJ has over an INTP and INFP is their talent to plan. INFJs love their agendas. It is unfortunate that the INFJ is like a helpless fish out of water when such plans become interrupted, or when factors that were not accounted for come into play. INFPs ,INTPs, and ENTPs are more resilient when things do not go to plan, after all the best plan is the plan which can adapt in accordance to any situation. Nothing is permanent. To an assertive INFP, an assertive INFJ moods can be easily manipulated through peer pressure. A Healthy INFP is a Charismatic machine, so it can be easy for us to exploit the weakness of an INFJ if we are forced to do so. INFPs are immune to peer pressure. In regards to Linguistics, an Assertive INFP and an Assertive INFJ are equal. I love the sparring of words that me and my siblings partake on a daily basis. It is quite enriching. I do not have any experience with Turbulent INFJs or INFPs so my experience May or May not be the exception.

If you go purely by IQ and academic achievements, INFPs are always ranked around second just under under INTPs, so I wouldn't worry too much (that is if the INPs actually put in the effort). Every type is intelligent, intelligence comes in many different forms. IQ tests generally only measure one type of intelligence (mathematical/logical intelligence based questions for the most part), so it's an incomplete measure of intelligence in general. There are 9 types of intelligence, an IQ test can't measure things like creativity or divergent thinking (which is often associated with the INFP type). Everyone uses all 8 functions, some just dip into some functions more than others. Many INFPs dip into Ti from a dominant position all the time, causing them to repeatedly mistype as INTPs (and vice versa). Our type and the way our functions are stacked won't necessarily tell us what functions we actually use the most, but the way we (INFPs) use Ti for example will be very different to how an INTP uses Ti. It's not worse necessarily, it's just different. I like to view it as a sliding scale or a continuum, sometimes pulling more towards one direction or the other depending on what you're doing. *This has been edited, just wanted to go back and polish up the wording of my comment a bit.

i do agree on interpersonal intelligence. As an intp i never relate to the "socially stupid" stigma. In fact i always considered myself as one of the few peoples that can clearly see all the social cues on that table. The difference is; most of us (i assume?) are really good at catching the cues, even the ones you might not catch, we link them with the smallest oldest details and we create a scheme about the relationships, peoples, gestures, topics etc. we classify them right then and there. We know the rules very well, but we don't play by the rules. We choose to not play by the rules and it's kinda fun tbh. It's like a game at times, it keeps us entertained especially if the conversation gets very shallow. I don't know if i have a good empathy ability (i guess no) but i think every other type should know (if they are curious about intp's) that at least some of us (but i think most of us) are aware of the social atmosphere as a whole and in details even tho we don't show it.

If you skip to the end then this video will make zero sense... just putting that out there. There are four different types of intelligence covered throughout the video. What I left out: So at the start I mentioned 5 intelligences although I removed one of them. The one that I removed was ‘spatial intelligence.’ This includes pattern recognition and the ability to imagine changes in the physical reality. For example chess players demonstrate extremely good spatial intelligence because they’re constantly imagining a chess board and arrangement of pieces that doesn’t exist in reality. They’re moving pieces in their minds only whilst deciding which move is best. Similarly when you’re.. rearranging furniture (in your head) in a room or trying to judge how things will fit together those are examples of using spatial intelligence. It’s almost like that’s a mental or theoretical kinaesthetic intelligence so I think some of the intuitive types might be very good at it. ~ Nathan

I am an ENFP but I've never struggled with logical thinking in my life, in fact that's the area where I excel in things like programming or problem solving in general. Logically speaking I guess a type having blind Ti should in theory put them in that position so I am not even mad at that but I think that having Te as a third function means that its not hard for us to juggle between Fi and Te, in fact Te Ne makes for a great combination which can solve problems extremely fast using "conventional" logic. So I don't think that we're less capable of being logical, we just have different priorities or preferences more like : I understand what you mean and it makes perfect sense, but I will still do what I feel like doing. The test is an experiment. Myers-Briggs, both mother and daughter, felt they needed to come up with a solution that best states an individual’s personality. It’s not about preference but more about the dominant trait. I LOVE creativity, I talk to people SO well but I’m still introverted, I am emotionally selfish as an INFP is typically, in which they care mostly about how other people understand their emotions. But it’s WHO you are as a person. I’m INTP, and I’m characterized as very into my own head and always theorizing and they call us the Philosophers, Scientists, Lawyers, Etc.. but I would NEVER like to study ALL the time for school or read books. I actually hate feeling too trapped, but naturally I’m intelligent and I won’t deny that. I agree with you however. Anyone can be intelligent and work hard, read books, study. But it isn’t your dominant trait. If you took the test, you chose what you meaningfully felt. I believe INTP’s AND ENTP’s can change the world. Before I found out about MBTI… I was already very fond of people like Sherlock Holmes and Tony Stark, both fictional characters who are INTP (Sherlock Holmes) and ENTP (Tony stark). I acknowledge the thought processes they possess. It’s mostly about the way INTP, INTJ, ENTP, and ENTJ’s confront their knowledge. They’re very different, and it doesn’t make them nerdy. I know a friend who is SUPER SMART, but I DOUBT she’s any of these. She isn’t Curious, or Spontaneous, into her own head, etc. she’s very rule following and doesn’t think big, all she does is study and study with a 4.60 GPA score. Even with that I’m able to teach MYSELF the stuff she learns in school. I’m pretty sure she’s an ISTJ. A literal robot.

So this was a broadly accurate analysis. Well done. I just want to add that INTJs are often unfairly maligned with regard to social skills. I know many INTJs who are thoroughly charismatic social operators (to the point I wouldn't believe they score INTJ save for the fact they've taken the test multiple times). The thing about INTJs is that they're niche products. That is, when they're addressing their core audience (usually other NTs), they can become godlike in their ability to relate to and motivate other people. Contrast that to ENTJs/ESTJs, who essentially function as social bulldozers (basically overwhelming people with the force of their personality, thereby inducing Stockholm Syndrome). INTJs can be just as (or moreso) influential but typically outsource their social influence-peddling to more adept personality types. All I'm saying is don't underestimate the INTJ's social acumen. They understand people from both a highly pragmatic and theoretical perceptive. ENTPs (such as myself) are similar, but we're more superficially charming and less goal-oriented than INTJs.

I would honestly probably bump ENFPs up one in both kinesthetic and interpersonal, but the other two seem correct. The ENFPs I know seem to quite like sports and physicality and also be surprisingly good at the physical things they do. Not the best, but quite good nonetheless. Though I'm not so sure this translates well to their physical everyday reality, where they seem to be a bit more oblivious. Perhaps they would fit better in a middle ground between possible and likely, should such a middle ground exist lol. As for interpersonal, as far as I've observed, they are excellent people-people. Nearly on par with ENFJ. They seem to get along with and be liked by nearly everyone they encounter.

I have a lot of ENFP friends that seem to think they are more logical than they are. (Not saying it’s true in your case) But they often use the reasoning of liking math or doing well in math in school. But I don’t think that necessarily translates to being logical. Also, in my experience I have personally found that out of the N types, the ENFP decision making process seems to be the most illogical to me as an ENTP. But I would personally put ENFP’s in the possible category for logic. I think it’s possible and they have the capacity especially compared to some of the other types but it just doesn’t seem to be as important to them, as they often get into deep thought and make connections about their own or others emotions.
@savirox233 жыл бұрын
@@shanic2865 That's true too. I think we like to analyse the entire story. I know for myself, when decision making or trying to understand something/someone, I start with the logistics. How it/they works, pros and cons, the controlled outcomes of certain scenarios and play it all out in my head. But I'll ALSO take into account the unseen possibility and emotional factors. So perhaps it's more that many people tend to be logical OR emotional thinkers, but ENFP's, along with a few others I'm sure, look at it from both angles in attempt to get a bigger picture. People often think of us as ones who act on a whim, which we do when it's just fun and games. However, when it comes to problem solving/reading the room/making crucial decisions or life skills etc, we suddenly become perfectionists and need every last fact and detail to make a decision/proper analysis of the situation.

I think I should add this here: No matter where you end up ranking in each type of intelligence, *remember that every person is unique and anyone can develop any of their eight functions to excel at areas no one would expect them to.* Personally, I’m an ENTJ who (depending on the circumstances) might be mistyped as all XNTX types plus INFJ. My knack for fields that are not very ENTJ-like (such as poetry, writing, music, dancing, counseling, CS, quantum physics, etc) makes MBTI junkies go, “Are you _sure_ you’re an ENTJ??” Which is crap. Remember that, while MBTI is useful for self-development, analysis, and understanding, it’s in no way intended to be a box to limit the human brain. Your type is your preferred pattern of thinking and behaviour, not a rulebook. Shadow functions exist to grow and come out of the shadows. So while Nathan’s assessment of the general population of each personality type and the usual manner in which they apply their functions is utterly top-notch, it’s still discussing stereotypes and typical tendencies. Push forward everyday to be better than yesterday. Nathan, I thank you again for another inclusive, considerate, efficient, and informative video!

@MsMrExe4 жыл бұрын
@@timefortee Sure, but are you trying to say that I’m not an ENTJ? Because I’m pretty sure I know myself better than you do. I love Ne and all the varied guesses, the creativity of it, and I use it critically when Ni is failing me, but my constant focus on Ni is laughably obvious. Just last night I was analysing type relations and trying to find one pattern while my INFP friend kept insisting that there doesn’t necessarily need to be *one* pattern. He ended up settling for letting me indulge in Ni then using my results to analyse individual relationships and see whether my pattern, my guess, is valid. (apparent Ne outlook).

Unless you trust hippie theories about how everyone uses everything all the time which they should rename since it has little to do with Jung at that point.
@MsMrExe4 жыл бұрын
@@timefortee Well, your concern is valid but still also not. I said nothing of using it consciously. You can, of course, _become_ conscious of the way your brain works through analysis of your own behaviour, especially if you’re surrounded by people who act the opposite of the way you do and make you notice your own tendencies. It’s called psychology. Yes, I act like an ENTP in certain circumstances (just as I act like an INFJ in others), but that's only because humans are complicated and no one acts one set way all the time-unless _you_ are one of the people who wants to put humans into boxes. I might be playful and overly curious and enjoy finding loopholes and workarounds, but I’m too obsessed with accomplishment and planning to be an ENTP. A competitive person who strives to gain power and lead and always impress others can’t be an ENTP. I’m simply too intense and goal-oriented to be one. I actually have a fabulous ENTP friend with whom I was on a team. Frankly, we love having long discussions and enjoy spending time together, but we can’t be any more different in our approaches. He’s noted repeatedly that perhaps I should chill it a little-especially when I kept checking in on him to see if he’s following the plan I set for the group and doing his part and how far along is he and does he need any help and WHY IS HE NOT WORKING C’MON WE’RE BEHIND SCHEDULE. (No, he’s not lazy, and he _was_ working-just not with as much focus as I was demanding).

I think underdeveloped ENFPs can truly be some of the most irrational and illogical types. We value our personal feelings very highly, and receive input through intuition, which is not always very realistic. While xNTPs can really ground their intuitive observations through a logical framework, for us our Ne often triggers our emotionality, thus making us a bit irrational by default. However I will say some of the ENFPs I’ve met have incredibly brilliant minds... but you can tell they’ve put in the effort. Same with sports or outdoor activities, i usually go cycling and even doing some minor downhill stuff but the way you plan stuff on the fly, physically speaking, managing your weight on the bike to make certain turns, avoid certain obstacles, and all that without loosing even balance, its just B E A U T I F U L. There is a point where your spatial awareness is soo developed, you will know exactly how your body will react to something, and how some objects/tools/vehicles will react to differents situations.
