SORRY ABOUT THE FOCUS!!! New camera, first time using it and the viewfinder is tiny - the issue is fixed in newer videos.
FEB, 2019
This is officially the most significant find of my life, 1629 French Double Tournois found on the beach which predates Captain Cooks visit to our part of the world by more than 100 years.
The beach that I was hunting had recently been hit by a storm which eroded the beach pretty badly as seen when I find the holed coin. Did it wash out from there? It was in the loose sand pretty close to the top of the beach. this beach would have been a natural resting place for people traveling by boat in the past as it is sandy, deep, and pretty close to a fresh water source in the next bay to the east. It also sits at the mouth of Howe Sound which can be a very nasty place to boat in the winter. Most likely it was dropped hundreds of years later.. but what if the history books are wrong and secret voyages were made to this area in the 1600's?
Who knows how it got there...
Equipment used on this hunt:
Minelab Equinox 800 forestcitymeta...
6" Coil: forestcitymeta...
11" Stock coil
Garret Pro Pointer:
Camera: DJI Osmo Pocket
Drone Footage: DJI Mavic Air

@ozzy Darren, thanks for watching. I have done quite a bit of reading and research on the steamships, growing up on the coast I remember seeing the big docks all over the place, now with that I know it should be really interesting going to visit /detect these locations. All the best!

Incredible find! As for theories... I believe must have been from voyagers. There is a very small chance it was brought later in the 1900’s but likely hood of that is almost zero in my opinion. (You don’t drop a 300 year old coin on a beach). As it stands you found a 400 year old coin where it shouldn’t be lol! Mind blown!

I like the voyager idea too. Traded across Canada, looking at the coin closely it looks like it may have been made into a button, not really sure about that though. People don't usually walk around with 390 Year old coins in there pockets when they go to the beach that's for sure.

Awesome find Tyee Hunter. 1629 is amazing. There was a 1655 coin found in the valley 5 minutes from where I live. It was found at bead hill. It's now a heritage site. Great video by the way, seems like you turned the production up another notch. ATB and HH👍👍

@DEPTHSPADER Hi buddy! I still have to pick up the coin every time I walk past my finds shelf just to make sure that it wasn't all a dream 😂. As for the production, I decided to take a class to figure out how to properly use a professional video editing program, that's why I didn't release much this spring as I was spending all of my editing time working on class projects. I also picked up a new Camera and a drone to get better footage. Good luck on your search for treasure!

Crazy right! According to history books there is no way this coin should be here. I never thought I would hit the 1600's without being on the eastern coast of the Americas or Europe. Feeling pretty lucky! Thanks for watching!

I want back a couple of times and really didn't get a heck of a lot. I think the key is that the storms erode more of the shoreline.

@@TYEEHUNTER yeah been out its weird though been doing good on gold close to 30 grams total but only 2 silver coins so far this year not that I'm complaining I just really enjoy finding old silvers. Bummer about the dollar i can relate my first 50 cent piece was a 68 still a good find but a bit of a let down 1 year off silver. Haven't missed a vid bro & looking forward to this new series should be interesting. All the best & happy hunting. James

Congrats on a Fantastic Day! I wish I had an answer for you on that 1600's coin, maybe someone who kept it as a pocket coin many years ago lost it.... That Dollar coin of course is only nickel but still a great find that had the adrenaline rush to go with it I'm sure. Looking forward to your next video as usual! Cheers!

Hi @Fleelex That coin is crazy, I agree that there is little chance that the coin was dropped by someone in the 1600's. Still how did it end up on the west coast of Canada. Pretty wild. About the dollar, I was hoping that they did the same thing with the dollar coin as the rest of our coins in 68 allowing for a cusp silver. No such luck 😂. Lesson learnd! Thanks for watching pal.

A lot of time travelers and settlers would carry heirloom coin collections and perhaps it was a coin drop.

@@TYEEHUNTER I'm in Vancouver, when I was detecting in area of Hope heard a lot about actual conquestadores that made it to Fraser in search of gold. On Spider peak across from Yale some swords were found. Itching to get to the island, I'll hit the beaches tons were out this summer.

Or spanish, chinese, japanese shipwreck, or a trade item that was passed hand to hand by the indigenous peoples. Pre-contact metal from wrecks has been documented from Ozette, Columbia river, Etc. Early to late17th century.
