Will never forget when Karmapa XVI in 1980 put his hand on my head during a private audience the day after he performed the BLACK CROWN ceremony at the Plaza Hotel (David Bowie also attended) NYC. How wonderful this recording is back on You Tube. I first saw it a good number of years ago but then it seemed to disappear. So pleased to see it again! I had the good fortune to attend a number of Black Hat Ceremonies in the UK in the 1970s and this is just as I recall them. Also great to see my old friend Lama Tashi Namgyal again, here making the mandala offering. Haven't seen him for years now, I hope he is well, and the late Chojor, I think it was, Lama Chime's younger brother, doing the translating. What a treat!

That’s a good question. I think it may be in the possession of the Indian government because there were some strong conflicts within the lineage after Karmapa’s passing.

I still wonder what happened to Karmaps XVIth after this ceremony,in which his face still looks normal. When he showed up a couple of months later in NYC for the vajracrown ceremony,his face was all puffed up..he looked terrible..guess ,someone had foodpoisoned him or put on some pharmaceuticals that ruined his liver,kidneys and lymphatic system...
