A 3-min video and this is worth years in terms of practice. Awesome.

For the beginner: when Carter switched to fingers, he started to play the top of the hats rather than the edge. Important to note.

Holy smokes, an absolute masterclass once again. I've always convinced myself that working on push-pull in the left hand is a waste of time, but I now have a lot of catching up to do!!

Nice lesson. Louis Cole also uses this sticking with quite a few phrasing variations. This comes from the stick control book. Carter spent a little time in that book!
@cartermclean2 күн бұрын
Fun fact never did stick control. New Breed was the only book I ever did
@jeffreyalexander7504Күн бұрын
@@cartermclean sorry for jumping to that conclusion...with that said, most of the stuff in the stick control book is intuitive anyway. IMO, the book has pedestrian value because it provides a fast track to great stick control. I don't know much about New Breed. I'll look in to it. Thanks mate!

@@cartermcleanReally? I really dig New Breed and my students all have to gnaw at it sooner or later, but made Gary's left hand/right hand area concept sense to you?

@cartermclean - oh man! I loved you guys back then (I live in Colorado). I went into the army and some jerk broke into my car and stole my Sticky as a Tree Frog CD (which was out of print by then). For decades I wanted to hear that album again. Then, a high school friend of mine and I started hanging out again and he still had it. I was listening to it last night and it brought back so many great memories! You guys were a huge influence on me as a young bassist. My friends and I started a funk band called Gun Slinging Parrots trying to sound like you guys (sans horns). I started looking into what happened to the band and found you on here :). Thanks for responding, you made my day!

I would love it if you could give a bit more insight into the physical aspect of the techniques you use during drumming. How you grip and manipulate the stick, how something should feel if you do it correctly, etc. Your mini lessons always remain a little vague on that front

He has his own signature sticks. I forget what brand they are.
@cpizz99Күн бұрын
I could be wrong, but he seems to be doing a push/pull, but with a very compact motion so that you almost don't see it. I think Nate Smith uses a similar motion when he plays fast 16ths.
@augustbrandal40152 күн бұрын
What hi-hat is that?
@sinanajaflou24522 күн бұрын
I hope I am not wrong but seems like Agop 15” Traditional Hats, he has a video where he plays all his hats, you may spot it there too.
