Just bought it. Been looking for an excuse to buy this for a while. Thanks for the push!

GBS Adapter with TrueView TVIA-5725 needs input signal to be +3.3V. To be safe you need to add in series a 680 Ohm resistor at CSYNC signal pin 10 from Amiga Video 23 pin connector which has output of TTL +5V. That mod is needed for all Amiga models. In case of Amiga 2000, 3000 and 4000 you may have a black screen (Amiga "thinks" that you have connected a genlock). In that case you need to connect GBS after Amiga is powered up or make a mod to the adapter. In that case you need to buffer signals: HSYNC, VSYNC or CSYNC two times by inverter or one time by TTL buffer (like 74LSxx or 74HCTxx).

well this is an output to a VGA monitor from a 17$ external scandoubler. the wires needed are, R (red) G (green) B (blue) S (composite sync) and GND (ground).

When I started collecting Genesis, Battle Squadron was my first Genesis cart to collect...most Genesis and Snes games I collected were Amiga ports. One thing though to consider is that games were designed for the interlaced display, so they actually look better as long as the rgb display is of decent quality. I will still pick one up though, for this will work with many machines not just an amiga...cheers.

vlupis1 I will have to test that.. for normal.wb and games never an issue...but honestly never tried super high res modes..so will try

Yeah, please do that and post the result here. It's great to have someone testing that on Amiga for us who are looking good cheap ways to connect it to flat panels.

They sell Amiga 23 pin to 15 pin VGA cables on eBay. Can i plug such a cable directly into this device without the soldering procedure (which I don't do:)?
@GlensRetroShow6 жыл бұрын
Denis Laurin yes you absolutely can
@miroslavparvanov6 жыл бұрын
Hi Denis. Did it work for you using 23 to 15 pin cable? I was wondering why everybody goes with the soldering if there is simpler, cleaner and more straightforward solution
@denislaurin81476 жыл бұрын
Can't seem to make it work. I tried a Samsung 19 in LCD and a 15 in Acer CRT monitor. I'm getting the same video pattern. What next? Does this work on NTSC Amigas?

Glen, quick question : we do not need to connect 2 wire power - black and red correct? to pin 20 and 23 - that's only for testing? I just got my board so I'm going to test it tonight, = thanks
@GlensRetroShow8 жыл бұрын
AC Maniak yes. do NOT.. repeat NOT pull power from the AMIGA 23 PIN port. it's inadequate likely will damage the Amiga... only Power scandoubler from external 5 volt power supply. ;)
@RetroGraty8 жыл бұрын
done. hooked up everything. the image is sharp on my older TV. which has vga input. colors are a little off. I tested on Amiga 6oo and 5oo. maybe I need real vga monitor. I don't wanna use LCD TV. I also have original monitor. but I'd like to switch to bigger screen also because monitor 2oo2 model is a mono.

Hi! I have purchased the exact same converter board that you have here. I have connected the wires correctly I believe (I used the red, green, blue, grey and black wires from the harness that came with the converter.) I purchased a DB23 connector and soldered the red to pin 3, green to pin 4, blue to pin 5, grey to pin 10 (which is Composite sync) and black to 16 which is ground. I have an old power adapter rated as 12v 5 amp that seems to be powering this board fine. I can get the menu from the board, and the "no signal" message from the board so that seems ok. However, when I power on my amiga, the screen goes green, with some distortion, and then goes black and I get the "no signal" from the scan converter. I just wondered if you had any thoughts. I originally hadn't connected the yellow cable, but I watched this video of yours and I saw that you have the yellow connected, so I just finished soldering yellow to pin 12 which should be Vertical sync, but it hasn't changed the behavior of this board at all. I made a quick little video showing what my amiga 500 is doing when I turn it on. Do you have any thoughts about what might be happening? kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6qxqH6KnNqanM0 I know the amiga works fine, I have an old commodore 1084 monitor here and if I plug that in, I get the normal insert workbench disk screen. Thanks for your great video! I just hop I can get mine up and running like yours! :) Take care
@grapevineforge7 жыл бұрын
Sorry to turn right around and reply to my own message, but I have figured out my problem. Apparently the DB23 connector I purchased has the pin labeling backwards on the solder side of the connector (pin 1 on the solder side is actually pin 12 on the front of the connector) Maybe that's normal and I'm just not familiar with these things ,but it caused me to have my wires exactly mirrored to where I was supposed to have them soldered. I've got them all re-soldered now to the correct pins and everything works great! Thanks for your video!
@spacefury655 жыл бұрын
@@grapevineforge If you ever check messages to this post, what is the boards name? Ive looked and cannot find a similar board. Also: the db23 you purchased, was that ebay? I ask because you said it was pin labeled. Thanks
@RetroGraty8 жыл бұрын
thats awesome i'm going same route, because A. original monitors are way way too expensive now $150 for monitor if you find one, B) you never know when its going to die, not all commodore monitors have stereo sound. - I'm going to order tonight, btw do you think Amiga 600 would work as well? I'm willing to wait 2-3 weeks and get it.
@GlensRetroShow8 жыл бұрын
AC .. yep..will work perfectly with an A600. you really can't go wrong with this and for the price.....it's fantastic. thank you for watching :) you will be happy with it :)
@RetroGraty8 жыл бұрын
Yeah i was scrolling through youtube trying to find solution, also I don't think A520 modulator gets picture like that thru comp video. I got Ver 5 is it ok? It was few dollars more, I know you mentioned to get v4 or better. Not sure what's the difference, i have few LCD tv/monitors laying around, I'm glad i found this video of yours! and diagram. I also have original 23pin cable that I can use. I think A600 will get even sharper picture than going through regular comp video as well. I want to have my a500 running just for games, also going to hook up Gotek HxC which has new firmware and 99% of games works -- (i'm sure you know about it, (virtual floppy drive)

perfect. I found a version 5 board for $18 and it's ordered and paid for. Much better than some of the asking prices for old CRTs. (I'm still kicking myself for dumping my Amiga Multisync when I moved house last.)

This is frame buffer, not scan doubler!
@GlensRetroShow6 жыл бұрын
zarjesve2 .. yes, I guess that is a more correct statement. But the end result for the price is more then worth it. 17$ vs. at least 100$ or more.
@JohnnyReb19763 жыл бұрын
Frame scaler, yes. Worse yet, it de-interlaces non-interlaced 240p content as well. Not bad for the price tho. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a firmware for it that makes it run as scan-doubler.
