As a watch maker myself, knowing how to order watch parts is highly important. But it is also important to understand that many watch movements will have their so called "Base" movement. In this video, I will discuss about Omega caliber 550 which is the base movement to 17 other Omega calibers. For example, caliber 552 is a 24 jewels version of a caliber 550. If you need to replace the balance wheel on a caliber 552 movement, you'll need to order the balance wheel of caliber 550. That is because caliber 552 does not have its own balance wheel, but uses the same balance wheel as caliber 550.

Thanks for the Class. This type of video should be watched several times! Pause, take notes, digest the ton of info poured here and recap. Yes, I am confused now but I can watch the video again!! I own 550, 601, 56X and of course 75X and now I have the tool to see them carefully...

Definitely! And you're very welcome. Honestly, if I had to sit down and spend an entire week, there are a ton of more info to provide on this one caliber + the 17 related to it. But I hope this video is enough to give everyone a better idea about vintage watch movement in general. Many are just based of one specific caliber to begin with. This is the same for Rolex 1500 series, 3000 series, 3500 series and so on...

I got mine off a friend. They are not very common. You can try locating one from a retired watch maker that used to work on vintage omega in the past.

I am looking to get my first Omega soon. Seems like a better way to spend my money than a new phone :). Is there a high-quality digital version of the document you show us there? I can find pages in Google Image search but the quality is too low to pick out the writing on the parts.

Thanks for the vid. Could It be possible cal552 watch with a Black Dial and dauphin hands and what Is more or less price variation? Sorry for my english
@TimelessHistoryChannel
@TimelessHistoryChannel Жыл бұрын
Why not? 165.002 Seamaster will come with a 552 calibre and sometimes with a black dial with dauphine hands. There are many other models, too, during the early 1960s. But the condition of the black dial is really important as well. If the dial is in poor or average condition, it's not going to make the watch any more special.
@vladimircabanov4326
@vladimircabanov4326 Жыл бұрын
Dial is in good condition and is solid gold (18k with a hallmark of Queen head or something like that), but It could be my first vintage Omega, so I don't understand if 1700€ Is a good price, in internet it's between 1700-2500.

Dear Omega Enthusiast, Thanks for uploading that. It was very informative. One thing I don't get is...where does the automatic 570 movement come into play. I have 3 of them and wondering what's the story on them? It looks very much like a 550 movement. Are they interchangeable? One more thing...Where can someone get a book like the one you showed in your video? Thanks
@TimelessHistoryChannel
@TimelessHistoryChannel 2 жыл бұрын
Hey bud, sorry for the wait. Caliber 570 appears like a caliber 550, but they are not the same caliber or from the same series. Caliber 570 is a mid size version of a 550. Their parts are not the same. These type of books are discontinued. They are original vintage parts books by caliber for watchmaker. But I believe they may appear from time to time at auction websites.
@kchappelle
@kchappelle 2 жыл бұрын
@@TimelessHistoryChannel thanks for that. Oh, so you’re saying the 570 is physically smaller than the 550 series?
@TimelessHistoryChannel
@TimelessHistoryChannel 2 жыл бұрын
@@kchappelle That's correct. So pretty much everything (parts) will be made smaller as well.

Unfortunately, I do not think there is one. But there are not very many Seamaster models that take the bumper movement either. The few most common ones are case model: CK 2577, 2576, 2766, 2767, G6250, 2627, and 2757

Does this mean that most parts are interchangeable between these movements? If I need to repair one a 563 movement for example but need to replace some parts would some parts for a 564 or 562 be the exact same ones as the 563?
@TimelessHistoryChannel
@TimelessHistoryChannel Жыл бұрын
That’s correct. Many parts are based from caliber 550 and the calendar parts are based off caliber 560. And quick set parts from 563.

Caliber 500 is the bigger version of a caliber 470. So many of its movement parts are based on caliber 470 and even some are based on caliber 330 (bumper automatic)
