@Rose.Of.Hizaki Жыл бұрын
@@allybally0021 it is reported that the Sampson and S1850M radars that the HMS Duncan are equipped with have a 400km/250mile range. The video states that the HMS Duncan was 30miles off the coast of Crimea which was the direction of where the jets came from. So you could say that HMS Duncan had them on radar as soon as they took off and climbed to an altitude that could seen by the radars. The Russian pilots would have known they were on radar as well as their avionics would have detected it and warned them if they were being pinged or targeted/locked up by other radars. Those MIGs could have avoided radar detection by staying really low to the ground but i don't think the kremlin and Crimean citizens would appreciate 17 jets almost going supersonic at tree level fly over their heads. Ive heard a flight of four or five F-15s fly overhead pretty low and slow and even those were pretty loud. I wouldnt want even one of them to go supersonic at tree level right above me
@allybally0021 Жыл бұрын
@@Rose.Of.Hizaki Hi I appreciate your thoughts. I think it all depends on the radar lobes, altitude and terrain when they would be acquired. Maybe they were picked-up as soon as they took-off but I suspect there are supplementary sources of this information. The idea of low altitude flights are not that remarkable though. Military jets regularly follow terrain at 250ft agl (or much lower in truth) and whilst noisy it is nothing new. They would not need to be supersonic or anything near it. Most are circa 450knots on dry thrust.
@Rose.Of.Hizaki Жыл бұрын
@@allybally0021 Well, its all speculation but im sure the MoD as well as the captain and navigators on board the ship knew that the airfield was there and it would be easy to correlate between the location of the airfield on the map and where the dots suddenly appeared on the radar - although they could have also come from a different airfield but nobody knows apart from the ships crew or maybe the film crew. Since it tv shows like these often exaggerate tensions because thats what brings in the views. The same way people tune in to Kitchen Nightmares with Gordon Ramsey. While i did say that the radar onboard the Duncan has pretty long range. I guess for most of us, that is theoretical as terrain and tall buildings can mess with the actual distance. ---- even if not supersonic. Jets are still loud and depending on the country youre from. There are rules or laws in place that restrict jets from going too fast due to the noise especially if the airfield is located near to a heavily populated area or the jets need to fly over populated areas to get where they need to go. At least here n the UK there are altitude and distance requirements that restrict jets from going supersonic over heavily populated areas unless it was an emergency like the Jets needed to go and intercept something -- and sonic booms are LOUD and can be heard for absolutely miles. UK airspace is limited to 250knots under 10000ft. 17 jets flying super low to the ground still isnt a fun experience. At least for the people on the ground. You can make the argument of an airshow but i dont think the organisers would let 17 jets buzz the spectators at tree level.

In early spring in the mid 70's HMS Bacchante sailed in complete radio and radar silence around the North Cape, and as far as the White Sea. It was so cold the sea began freezing around the ship, and I had to keep the Seacat launcher running to keep the hydraulic oil warm, or at least not so cold that the breaker tripped. The reason the crew was given was that the Russians had been hassling our trawlers in the area. I'm not convinced of that! We reached the White Sea undetected (probably probing defences was our real reason). At which point we could have returned undetected. However there is no point going there and not leaving a calling card. We turned on the navigation radar for just one revolution, and within 15 minutes there were planes and ships everywhere! From Navy Lookout July 6th 2021 MBDA announced today that the Type 45 destroyers will be enhanced with 24 Sea Ceptor missile cells. Here we consider the implications of this significant upgrade to the Royal Navy’s primary air defence platform. The Integrated Review published in March 2021 promised enhancements to the Sea Viper missile system, but the news that Type 45s will receive additional missiles is a big step forward and a welcome surprise. A new 24-missile Sea Ceptor silo will be added in front of the current 48-missile Sylver VLS silo (See speculative mockup above), increasing the overall missile capacity from 48 to 72. Not only does this raise overall missile numbers by 50%, but also offers the potential to increase the range and reach of the existing Sea Viper system.

Dead? Since 2018? Hardly. They were all getting practice for sinking Her Majesty's Ships that are foolishly sent into the Black Sea. Regardless of all the agreements that the Black Sea is open waters, the fact remains that the Black Sea is a Russian pond. They control every inch of it and could easily sink every surface ship of the Royal Navy and the US Navy in about an hour and a half. The hypersonic missiles Putin introduced to the world in 2018 are indeed a game changer. All those carrier battle groups are mere defenseless targets for Russia if the west becomes stupid enough to launch on Russia. By the way, only Russia has actual air defenses rather than over-priced junk such as "Patriot" missiles that are simply a vehicle for transferring masses of currency from the taxpayer to Raytheon, Lockheed, Grumman, etc. None of the US "wonder weapons" are effective in combat as witness how things are going for the US/NATO in Ukraine. If Russia decides to fight like the US fights, i.e., flatten cities full of civilians and then send in the infantry, the Special Military Operation in Ukraine would end in about one day.

Maybe you would like to explain what you mean by "the Russian navy got its ass handed to it" because that has not happened even with the MI6 / US engineered attack on Sevastopol and Ukrop mines floating all over the Black Sea. Russia does not attack civilians or hide behind them as does the AFU, which is the sole reason Russian has not "taken" Bakhmut or Zaporizhzhia or Marinka, etc., yet. This area is now Russian territory and they are not going to give it up. Meanwhile, the civilians who elected to stay in Kherson are starving, freezing, and carrying water from the Denipro because the Zelensky cannot supply them, the AFU cannot even reposition its forces from Kherson to the north. Going to be a very interesting winter and I look forward to the day the RF takes off the gloves, shoots down the recon satellites, the P-8s, the P-3, the Brit U-2s, etc., and ends the US/NATO proxy war on Russia. You should send propane to Europe as they freeze their asses off and maybe, just maybe realize it was not in their interests to US vassals in this worldwide war to force everyone to use the massively inflated federal reserve notes as a world reserve currency. Of course you are unable to know facts or see reality, but Russia, China, India, and Iran are setting up their own exchange system, totally outside the Fed/IMF and the South American and African countries are very interested in joining them. The US, Canada, and US vassals in Europe stand alone. It gives me no delight at all and it is all a result of Zionist control of the US central government which is not and has not been a "federal" government ever since Lincoln's War on the States. So, Bobby Boy, I would say kiss my ass, but that would be impolite. There's a famous story about an Australian (?) port VTS where all of the operators in the control tower kept getting groin cancers, it turned out that they were directly in line with ships incoming radars, which produce non-ionising radiation. Aye, he looks a wee bit less cocksure about that. I mean, these are formidable ships and the world’s most powerful air defence destroyers, but send enough aircraft (“targets”) and that still leaves their anti-ship missiles - presumably launched prior to their own immolation-by-suicide mission - to counteract. My guess is that at least one, maybe more, gets through to cause perhaps fatal damage. HMS Duncan has 17 targets, plus however many missiles might theoretically be launched, to contend with; they’ve just got HMS Duncan to defeat. This is why it’s a foolish admiral who sends a ship unescorted into the littoral zone of a major power, and is also why in wartime a flotilla - possibly with carrier-based air cover in tow and at least one fast attack submarine on fleet protection duties - would likely be deployed instead. Layers upon layers of air defence because one ship operating alone is a sitting duck no matter how powerful she happens to be.

But they have powerful radar right on the coast of Russian territory. The Russians probably picked up that there was a powerful radar on that ship and scrambled a large amount of planes to scare of the destroyer. All countries do this. It’s not naive they are just protecting there borders. Like Russia would get global condemnation if they parked a destroyer with powerful radar right off the coast of Edinburgh. Also I must say it is very British of us to applaud ourselves for doing nothing. Just told the Russians to stay back for their own safety, which they complied to do. Also, yeah that destroyer has a shit ton of missiles. But they have a shut ton of missiles on their wings plus they have flares and other countermeasures. The destroyer would sink. Maybe blow some planes up. But it would be a loss for us unfortunately.

That's a pretty dumb things for the russians to do. The ship was no threat to Crimea at the time and there was nothing to gain from this pointless posturing. On the other hand it offered intel for nato forces on scramble times, aircraft types and numbers, what ordnance would be carried, EW data, radar profile data and who knows what else. With rapid fire VLS you shoot down 17 planes in a minute. On the other hand, even with a probability of intercept of 99%, which is doubtful, you can't afford to get hit even once. So standard doctrine is to allocate two missiles per incoming threat, or at least it was not too long ago. 48 missiles really do go very quickly.

It's not about a military protection. Russia is weak state, the bad copy of the USSR. The old jackal, with lost teeth, but the same jackal behaviour. Nobody will perform a military attack on Crimea, there's no need at all. Russia will fall from inside as USSR did. Sometimes I think Crimea was a bait for Russia to speed up it's fall.
