I have a smart scale with associated app. It updates a fitness program I use. I never knew about the Fitbit hack (well it's a hack to me) that will allow me to get my weight updated automatically in Zwift. Thanks for the tip....I had asked Zwift, the scale maker and the fitness app developer. All said it could not be done. I set up my Fitbit account at a higher weight. Stepped on the scale and the updates flowed out just as you described Big THANK YOU !!

Nice work. Tried it with my Eufy scales and it also worked. I’ve got Zwift, Garmin Connect and Strava all instantly auto syncing weight from my scales now. All you need are any scales that will talk to the free Fitbit app and an iPhone. My Eufy scales app sends the weight to Fitbit, Fitbit sends it to Zwift, Myfitnesspal and Apple Health. Apple health then sends it to Strava and Myfitnesspal sends it to Garmin connect. I had trouble with Garmin initially not syncing with Myfitnesspal so unlinked them and relinked from the Garmin dashboard side rather than from Myfitnesspal side, to link Garmin connect to Myfitnesspal you do it via the calories in/out tab on the desktop PC from memory.

I got lucky and found the Withings Scale on clearance for $24. I love it! It syncs by wifi and automatically syncs to all my connected apps.

Zwift let’s you connect directly to your Withings scale but unfortunately doesn’t sync your weight. Diving into the forum for troubleshooting of Health mate (Withings app), it states that there is a bug with the sync from Withings’ end. They don’t seem to bother that much as the bug report is over 7 months old.

True, it’s annoying. However ironically you can use the same Fitbit workaround with the Withings scale as of a few days ago.

Having the app open is pretty common for cheaper BT scales. That's why I got a(n?) Aria 1 to replace a cheap, well reviewed BT scale ~18 months ago.

Indeed, it's a fair tradeoff for a $17 scale, though technically there's also no reason for it. Meaning, it could easily do a background sync/update if it wanted to (akin to your watch). But yup, the Gen1 Aria and the Withings WiFi scales are really the complete easy-button option.

You can also sync other scales like xiaomi mi scale 2 , in my case I use xiaomi - > google fit - >strava - >zwift. Some more middle APIs 😅

Ray; really appreciate what you do! Have you considered looking into how these devices (cheap or otherwise) and their apps protect (or share) our data? I'd be worreid at $17 bucks, the scale isn't the actual product. Not sure what they'd do knowing how much I weigh but...

It’s true, a company could leverage your weight data. Just as Zwift could for marketing purposes. In this case you don’t need to provide any other personal information such as mailing address, merely an email address. Bio information like gender and height can be set to any value you want, if you purely want weight information only.

@@Dcrainmaker email can be used to target you on any ad platform. So expect lots of weight gain/loss advertising when you step on. I know you mention it, but Withings still not working. Not even by sync through Fitbit 😡

You can sync Fitbit to MyFitmespal app (free) and sync that to Garmin connect. I’ve just posted a comment above how to connect scales to zwift, Garmin and Strava.

Withings scale may work with the fitbit hack, but it is not necessary. I have a withings scale and it syncs to zwift once the accounts are connected. It does periodically stop syncing, but I just have disconnect the account then reconnect to get it working again.

It seems like since Training Peaks already communicates workouts with zwift, they should be able to update your weight from there as well.

It's a serious pain in the a$$ that a $17 scale does something that the Garmin Index doesn't. Last year, we converted from a FitBit scale that was syncing to Zwift (it was old and flaking out) to an Index. We didn't have any other FitBit devices and we have a ton of Garmin ... seemed like the right choice even if it was extra $$. The Zwift connect is the one issue, and it's a stupid pain in the a$$ - c'mon Zwift and Garmin, I can see Zwift rides in my Garmin Connect ... why can't Zwift see my Index weight!?!? OK, now that I'm done ranting, my weight doesn't change much, I'm in the same 5 lbs range for the last few years, so it really doesn't mean much to me.

Needing to use the app isn't so bad if you are a parent or pet owner. The scales that auto update your weight simply by standing on them seem a little to open for small human, cat or dog stepping on them. Would be annoying to enter an event only to find your weight is screwed.

Yup, according to the manual, you can both pair to the scale from your own smartphones and it'll work that way. Also, you can track multiple users within a single app install, but not sync multiple users outbound from a single app.

As someone who has also put a bunch of people in a lab with different scales, I can also say these smart scales are really only useful for their weight metric. Small correction: the scale is 18 bucks. Don't fall into the .99 conspiracy!

Getting your weight from and to certain platforms can be a pain. Garmin hardly allows anyone to penetrate into Connect. MyFitenessPal is a good collab, however hardly anyone can write into MFP. Fitbit sounds a good idea too but Fitbit anly reads Garmin but does not write it. I have an Eufy scale which only syncs to GoogleFit and Fitbit... Shall I continue...? ;)

Identical for weight, but in general I prefer the Withings scale for wider 3rd party compatibility as well as just the WiFi aspect.

Hey. It's possible to make a sync with Garmin scale. Not directly but works. On android you need an app Health Sync from Play Store. You need too fitbit account. In the app you can synchronise weight from Garmin to fitbit and then you can connect your Fitbit account in Zwift. I have already tested it and it works.

I have a scale in the bathroom so I just hop on each morning before my shower. It doesn’t sync to anything though so it’s on me to remember to add it into an app, where it eventually syncs to strava & Zwift.

Hmm, I don't think it fully boils down to talent and fitness when it comes to cycling, you have to have financial backing to run a team and compete across the world. Zwift racing significantly reduces this financial burden while also being a decent place to find talent for established teams.
