I escaped a recliner in December 2021. After nearly 15,000 miles of Butterfly Tracks, I finished my dream journey from Florida to the Redwood Forest. (Butterflies don't fly in a straight line)

I visited that area as a child in the 70s late 70s probably I have never forgotten the visit and we camped on a river in the area with my cousins. I hope to share this experience with my grandchildren sometime soon and amazingly these giant trees have their own ecosystems that one would never even think of. They are so grand and beautiful.

Jan I finally got to see your redwoods trip. It was incredible!!!! The music was perfect the cinematography was fantastic! I miss them so much. I used to vacation at my grandparents cabin in Felton, California which was right smack dab in the middle of the redwoods with all those beautiful ferns. I remember laying out on the deck on a cot and looking up and thinking that it just couldn’t get any better than this. And then I get up and go to the ocean which was 6 miles away into Santa Cruz. Those were some of the best days of my life. Most definitely my happy place. They are incredible beings aren’t they? We brought one home off the property in a coffee can and my mom and dad planted it in the backyard which is where I live now. My childhood home. And with the illegal fireworks, one caught part of the tree on fire. And it made us sick and she never really recovered. I had to have it cut down in 2020 which absolutely broke our hearts. It had so many memories. That was the same year I lost both of my parents and I was taking care of them for three years prior to that. But I do have the stump that I had them save for the bottom part of the tree which is sitting out back and I’m going to make a bench out of. Just need to get my butt out there and get the chainsaw fired up and do it. Thank you so much for I would go so far to say that that was your best video yet! It really was outstanding. Thank you for the memories. Look forward to the next. Sending you sweet vibes from Cali😎💜🤟🏻

@@ButterflyTracks thank you Jan that’s sweet. Just part of my life. I had so many wonderful trips up there. Such beautiful memories. I would take the ferns and make little baskets for my parents for their Easter baskets and take a paper plate and weave the ferns together to make baskets and then put the chocolates inside. It was great fun. Then when we would hunt eggs we always have to make sure because the year before we missed one and didn’t find it until the summer and boy did it stink! Lol as a kid I spent so much time out in nature there. There was our friends who lived across the driveway and had the wonderful switch backyard that went down to the creek. I would sit down there for hours and watch the little waterfall trickle down. I had various little animals that would come up and visit while I was sitting there. One time my folks and I went on a hike from down by the creek way up over the mountain and found at the site of a former house I guess because it had the old dumpsite there. There were all kinds of treasures laying around. We love to collect little bottles. Back then they just open the window and pitched them out the window. A little old man that used to own the cabin before my grandparents bought it used to do the same thing. We dug behind our cabin and found all kinds of bottles and medicines and all kinds of stuff. Great fun! The only thing I didn’t like up there was the spiders. They were ginormous! Used to go in and lay on the bed and call my dad to come get them if I saw them on the ceiling. We used to call them woolly booger‘s. Because they were always hairy. My hero would come in and slay the dragon so I could go to sleep. Oh my gosh I could go on and on all the stories that I’ve had from up there. I’ve forgotten so many. Thank you for giving my Memories back. Happy trails to the next spot.

So glad you invested two weeks in the company of those sacred forests. 💕 you’ll need to go back to the Sequoias to experience older and larger trees. To experience the oldest living tree in the world, it’s a bristlecone pine also in California. Redwoods don’t make the oldest Trees lists. So, now you have some more tree pilgrimages you can make!

Beautiful video! I’m so very happy for you! I have not yet seen the redwoods. Saw the sequoias and bristlecones, but redwoods are still on my list. Now that you have seen them…time for a new goal! A new list item! 🥰

Thanks, H Gj. There is a different feeling in the redwoods. Funny, the words that come to mind are: redwoods are more user friendly. The Sequoias seemed more aloof. 🤔

@@ButterflyTracks it somehow seems that, in spite of their enormous size, they create a more intimate, almost private setting. A unique thing among the enormity of scale that is the west. I’m hoping time, opportunity, and fate will afford me an opportunity to see them before, well…you know… 😬

I see why you waited to make this video special. I was crying as you drove underneath the beautiful tree. My husband and I started planning a trip to California to see the redwoods and Lake Tahoe and I’m so looking forward to it. I too feel such a connection to nature and especially majestic trees. What month were you there? ❤️

Oh, I got so excited to see you driving up the highway that I had just driven down in May on the CA coastline. Although I was only to there for a week, I felt nostalgic, amazing! I feel so happy that you were able to see and feel the magic of the trees finally. Your video helped me realize that I want to return there to spend more time to connect with their deep spirits. I'm now creating a plan to set up my minivan and get my body strong enough to be able to travel more. I will keep my home base and travel as I can now that I know it's possible to have a way to afford it. Thank you so much for the inspiration.

Hello Jan Thanks for sharing your journey with me. I'm in awe of the redwood trees. I found out about some facts I didn't know about them, thanks to you. Loved your quote by John Steinbeck. He's one my favorite authors. I would love to hear you recite any part of a poem by Robert Frost titled "The Road Not Taken". You have a very beautiful voice for reciting poetry. (and the prettiest eyes I ever seen) Please be safe on your journey. I always wish you happiness.
