I thoroughly love that you thought that some of the modern books were slow and nothing happened. As a fellow lover of classics, that is the definition of irony😂😂!

I skimmed through Jo and Laurie and was like yeah, no. Not worth it!

The worst book I read in 2024 was "Born to Die" by Lisa Jackson. (SPOLIER WARNING) the killer is about to off our heroes when a character we've never seen shows up (for no apparent reason) in the middle of the night, in a snowstorm, kills the villain, then dies themselves. It goes downhill from there. I'd like the hours of my life back that I spent on this book, please.

Haha! That sounds awful! 😆 Sounds like a Monty Python plot or something.

I'm sad to hear Wilkie Collins wasn't a great guy. I love his books.

I usually try to separate the artist from their art, and just try to enjoy the music, artwork, or book for its own merits.

I have always disliked Philip Pullman’s books. As I remember The Golden Compass started out with a girl talking to a “daemon”. That was enough for me stop reading after the first chapter. I also did not agree Pullman’s criticism of Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia and especially about whether Susan was saved. I believe that she was saved after The Last Battle. Pullman is anti Christian and too judgmental of C. S. Lewis.
