I think it was actually lucky that Japan was the one slated to host the Olympics when the pandemic happened. Their meticulous preparations and ability to foresee consequences (on an organizational level) was needed to keep the athletes safe during this time.

Seeing the anime references was....and after 3 years, still IS the saving grace of the 2020+1 Tokyo Summer Olympics, because if it haven't been for COVID-19, this would've been enjoyable and watchable, crowds and everything else......the other saving grace, not canceling it ALTOGETHER, it's been 84 years since the Games were upended and shut down due to WW2, but give Tokyo hontoni omedetogozaimasu / huge congratulations for pulling this off.
