I was blessed to have had the pleasure of living close to a very talented man named Bill Poe, who made custom rods. I used 700 and 800 series G Loomis blanks and a cranking rod that was based on a glass Fenwick blank. The late Bill Poe was a genius with eye placement and the effect of that placement on the action of the rod. Bill explained the action to me...you want a rod to let you see what you eyes can't. I look forward to trying a Sick Stix soon. Great video
@stoneysdead6893 жыл бұрын
Love that keeper placement- having it in front of the reel really sux- rod sleeves tangle with your hooks, or they won't slip over the bait and keep knocking it off the keeper.
@dondieselfishing47483 жыл бұрын
I want that spinning rod. And you're absolutely right about everything. Honestly man we balsa guys are a breed of our own when it comes to those baits. It took me a long time to find a rod that I liked for those baits. I'm anxious to try your version.

I also like that particular reel seat @8:55 its pretty close to Fuji ECSM...I will grind that trigger down quit a bit. Sometime I get to palming the rod and that long trigger is a little to much.

I bought all 3 of them and I would have to say they are absolutely amazing. The 6'10 is really good for jerkbaits, the 7'2 rod is for sure a great chatter bait rod, and the spinning rod is perfect for dang near anything you want to do with it.

Got my hands on the 7'2 casting for Chatterbaits but really need to find a reel I like on it. I have the Sick Baitcaster but it feels funny on there for some reason. Going to try the Solues reel or maybe a Lew's LFS reel. Going to get my hands on the other 2 soon as well. Great job Brian

The Soleus and Soleus XCS are both absolutely amazing on that rod. Either will be a great addition. The Sick reel is a good reel, and pairs with the original Sick Stick rods quite well, but these rods......they deserve a bit better.

Im very interested in picking up the 6'10" rod for shallow and lighter cranks. What reel would you recommend? Im thinking of throwing a tatula on it with like 8-10lb flouro or mono (probably mono since im still learning baitcasters)
@junebuggin3543 жыл бұрын
Start with mono for practice, sure. But from experience, flouro reduces line twists and backlashes because it has less memory. As long as you 1) correctly adjust your spool tension and 2) don't whip your rod with all of your might when you cast, then you'll do great!
@deonjackson1933 жыл бұрын
Kayak tourney fishing is on the rise (KBF). Is there a chance you can pass along a request for a kayak series of rods? Shorter butts (reduced by 1 - 2"). Alot of us yak anglers run into shorter hook sets due to lack of work area. I know the hobie PA chairs are a blessing and curse when attempting to load up on a deep cover bass. You easily hit the armrest.

great info as far as detail. Just wondering with regard to fit and hand-size. There are a million hand sizes (as far as consumers). So is this rod made specifically for YOUR hand or the consumers who will be buying the product?
@stoneysdead6893 жыл бұрын
I've designed knives for decades now- taking the finger choils off a handle- and that's what those little grooves are called that your fingers sit in, finger choils- opens the grip up so it's more comfortable for about any size hand. Why- because there's no specific place that your fingers have to fit- it allows you to grip it like you want to- instead of having to place each finger where someone else decided they should go. Not to mention now you can wear a ring or whatever and it doesn't matter, you can have big hands, small hands, medium hands- they all fit.
@youseltorres5513 жыл бұрын
I feel ya bro it's like if your tip of your fingers are pulling the bait not a rod . You feel everything that in front of that plug.

Keep the keepers behind the reel holders the defender spinning rods i had to rip mine off they are in a bad place..
@stoneysdead6893 жыл бұрын
Ikr- I have some higher end rods that have the keeper in front of the reel- hate it. You can't put on a rod sleeve without it tangling in the hooks on your bait or, if you're running a larger bait- the sleeve simply won't fit over it and keeps knocking it off the keeper.

In my opinion calling the spinning rod a medium would be a plus. I would never buy a medium heavy spi nine rod and may regret never holding your rod in my hands.
