I'm pretty new to bass fishing but not new to fishing in general. So I've been able to pick up a lot from KZbin videos but I made the mistake of listening to the googan squad advice since they were some of the more popular KZbinrs. Not saying they give bad advice but they're entertainers more than anything. I've picked up more from maybe an hours worth of your videos than I have in the 6 months that I've been watching the googan squad to pick up on bass fishing knowledge tips and tricks. I wish I would have found your channel sooner. Could have saved myself quite a bit of money and frustration

I am really digging the rod B-Lat and I will tell you why because I am a former employee of CastAway Graphite Rods and while I was there I built a custom rod which is a 6'10" medium action with a fast tip for my shallow crankbaits and for the occasional soft jerk bait day because that fast tip makes that thing really walk !!!
@umami02473 жыл бұрын
I agree with everything you said here. I've seen guys try and throw a crankbait with heavy line and we'll it's funny to watch and they don't seem to understand the problem and think it's the reel or the rod that is the issue. I've even gone down to 8lb. test when in clear pretty open water and had success. And I use between a 6' to 6'6'' to toss my crankbaits I only use glass rod though but if I see a decent hybrid I my pick it up. Good luck in future tournament.

You forgot one more tip.... making slight customizations to the baits. Any weekend angler can go to the store buy a bait, tie it on, & catch fish. After a while the fish get used to seeing that bait. Making slight modifications/customizations to the bait gives the fish something slightly different to look at, & will help catch more fish.

Been watching your videos for a while, good down home advise. One thing I would like to suggest is if your having trouble hanging up with crankbaits is to fish them on mono. I tried fluoro but hung up more so I went back to mono. I think it allows the bait to bounce off the cover instead of digging in because mono stretches.

I have a "7"6' medium/heavy Graphite/Composite moderate action Baitcaster Rod. I'm using 8 lb. monofilament for my backing line with a piece of 12 lb. fluorocarbon for my leader. The rod's line requirement is 10 to 20 lb. line do you think I need to go with a larger backing line? I'm thinking about just going with all 12 or 15 lb fluorocarbon line instead.

Personally I never go under 15ld test with square bills and sometimes will throw 17 because I fish it in the lay downs and docks I feel that I need it to get the fish out
@swimschool41953 жыл бұрын
think about it like this, you're making that bait shake a way bigger hose as it runs through the water. it's also super unlikely you have your reel set to make more than 12 lbs of drag (it's probably not even half that). I need to wear gloves to break off 15 or I end up cutting my hands. this is all out the window if you can't tie a good knot though.
@drakes15153 жыл бұрын
I only use 15lb test for my squarebills. Fish mostly tournaments on Potomac river now as I was born and raised in Virginia and have been fishing the Potomac my whole life. 15lb works perfect for all the different types of grass to keep them out of there and fishing wood works perfect and still good enough for fishing rock. Plus the chance of hooking a giant snakehead is always there. I use Evergreen crankbaits which are between $15 and $20 a pop so I dont go less than #15 fluorocarbon.
@swimschool41953 жыл бұрын
@@drakes1515 yeah, that CR-4 is money but I throw them on 12 and don't break them off either. I think it's overkill but shit, people crank with 20. to each their own.

@dondieselfishing47483 жыл бұрын
Once you go glass composite, you never wanna throw your cranks or minnows on another rod. Literally the most important part of this entire video and the gear ratio cause a lot of those smaller baits don't require as much speed as they go through the water there isn't as much drag on those smaller baits.
@ThatSB3 жыл бұрын
Gear ratio doesnt matter. Why? Cause your hand can move different speeds
@dondieselfishing47483 жыл бұрын
@@ThatSB it does too with smaller baits and a slower time of year, but your entitled to your wrong opinion.
