Do you need 20 high end rods to get out on the lake and fish? Of course not. But, there’s something to be said for having dedicated rods for different disciplines. You’re going to land more fish using the correct rod for the bait it was designed for. And you’re going to risk losing fish (possibly you’re PB) by using a rod that isn’t meant to handle the tackle you’re throwing. I’ve broken a few rods trying to throw too big of baits on them.

Great advice, B Lat! Couldn't agree more. I am not a beginner and probably lean a bit too much on my 7'0 MH for most of my stuff, but it's the "do everything" rod for me. I found those composite cranking rods to be really good for spinnerbaits and chatterbaits as well. I also can't recommend enough Berkley Lighting Rod. I have put these budget rods through the paces, and they hold up to a lot for the money, and I think they feel pretty darn good, too.

Great video. Ive settled on 6’11 M/M, 7’2 MH/MF, 6’10 MH/F and then a M/XF and ML/F spinning rods. From the bank the three casting rods covering everything I need and all are $100 or less. The only rod I’ve spent money on was my dedicated bottom contact jig rod, but it’s a want rod. … from my experience experience it’s finding a rod brand that you like how the rod responds, it’s weight, and it feels in hand. …. Ark and Jewel are the brands I’ve settled on. Ark covers my main three rods for $100 or less and then jewel for my bottom contact rod.

How does the rod bending sound go again?😂😂😂 This video is great. I think some people like to get a little too picky about rods. When I'm kayak fishing rivers I use a stinking telescopic rod and have caught nice bass on it. I love my higher end stuff in my boat though. The Shimano slx rods are a prime example of what you were talking about with different brands, you could probably take their heavy action rod offshore to some oil rigs😂. They're great rods though, just gotta go a little lighter on the action.

For hobbyists, a 7’1” M spinning covers most types of baits. Granted it cant throw a glide bait on it.

I agree that rods selection can get out of control. My way of rod selection is what I consider similar to being a golfer. I see very few golfers show up at a nice golf course with only a driver, a putter and a five iron. I believe as your fishing skills progress and if you have room, it is nice to have all your favorite baits pre-rigged and ready to use at a moment’s notice during your fishing day. I agree, the 7’ medium heavy casting rod and the 7’ foot medium spinning rod are the best all around bass fishing rods.

True you may not need many rods, but having extras can come in handy when one breaks, id say having more reels is more important. That way you can slap on the appropriate reel for the technique youre utilizing that day. I just hare having a reel on a rod with floro, then months later if i need braid on it i feel like im wasting line when i could just have an extra reel or set up already ready for that
@user-fj4gy1tr4h4 ай бұрын
Basically, you can use almost any rod for any situation, it’s all in the angler.

If you're relegated to fishing from shore you may have to change things up a bit. Not everyone has a boat or a truck to carry around 7 foot or longer rods that are 1 piece. I'm currently stuck fishing from the bank, so my rods run from 5'8" to 7', mainly 1 piece models, but I also use a couple of telescopic rods from G.Loomis. one model is 6'8" medium and the other is 7'2" medium-heavy. They get the job done.

I have 4 fishing poles. All spinning reels. A 4' ultralight for panfish and crappie A 6.5' medium light for trout A 6.5' medium heavy for bass A 7' heavy for carp and catfish. None of the poles cost over $80 and neither did the reels. The trout pole cost $8 at Walmart. I have used a rod and reel that my cousin owns that cost over $600 combined and I must admit it was down right amazing and i couldn't believe the sensitivity but that is definitely not needed for fishing. Though if i were a professional i would have some.

So I’m a golfer getting into fishing now. I know I pick the cheapest hobbies. But I see the simulators with rods, and golf shafts. In a golf shaft I look for low torque, that would be compared to heavy rod. Wonder if rods have torque specs?

The only thing I demand in my spinning rod is that it's fast action. I only like a slower action when I'm throwing trebles. Nothing will teach rod action like owning a dozen ultralights.

What gear ratio do you recommend for crank baits?
@matthewhairell8498 ай бұрын
Depends on what you’re trying to do. Deep plugs I would do a 5, medium a 6 and shallow a 6 or low 7. For all purpose a mid 6.
@450jgh4 ай бұрын
I know you were asking b lat but I prefer a slower gear ratio (not more than a 6) for deep diving crankbaits. It's like pedaling a bicycle in first gear though, gotta crank fast but it's less tiring. I'm not picky about medium and shallow running crankbaits. I typically use a 7 for those. When the fish are hitting aggressive I use an 8 sometimes.
@G__Mason4 ай бұрын
@@450jgh thanks man, I appreciate the response. I ended up going with a 5:0 for deep cranking and a 6:3 for the rest. Been working out great
