I never understand NPC's who buy an old home and "upgrade" (well..probably because they are npc's😆). A crime as far as I'm concerned. I have a very old farm house too and we've had to remove the gross carpeting in it too. People have horrible taste.

When we had our hardwood refinished a few years ago, it was like the storm troopers arrived. The crew was instantly working, it was amazing. The results of your floor are beautiful!

Look at all the quarter sawed oak the finishing revealed... simply beautiful. You can’t even buy quarter sawed oak anymore. It’s like hard rock maple…non existent. I think it looks awesome. Even the imperfections in the wood give it a great look. You know it's real wood. Glad you decided to do this and not cover them up again. Real wood floors deserve to be shown. Carpet blows wind as does a floating fake wood floor.

We removed all of our tile and carpet on our main floor , and put down red oak ! It was a great decision and we never regretted doing it ! Your floors looks amazing ! So happy for you two ! Looks amazing !

I absolutely LOVE IT! Our house is around 50 years old and has hardwood...in the orange color. There are spots that poly peeled up in some closets and marks and we have thought about having them redone but didn't know what color but I absolutely love the color you chose! Jacobean is a fruit on a tree. It grows on the truck and is nearly black! Refinishing your floors has added great value and you made the right choice! The floors are beautiful and I love the color!

What a blessing it was, that the first floor guys were honest, and refused to put down flooring over an unlevel floor. YOU SAVED HISTORY! I'm so glad you didn't cover it up with carpet! You need to post the company name, and owner, who helped make this happen. I'm sure his phone will be ringing off the hook, by people, like you, who are desperate, for help to save our historic homes! You are the caretakers of this home, for now. Someone, in the future, will appreciate how you cared for it. You should write down the things you know about the house. Include the changes you made, so future generations can see the effort you put in to saving it. I often wonder what will come of our house on 64 acres. We had it built in 1996, and moved in, with our 4 kids in 1997, after spending time in Saudi Arabia, for my husband's job. I don't think any of our children want it, and that makes me sad. We get people ask us about 3-4 times a year if we're interested in selling. It's usually a farmer, who wants the land, and the big barn. I'm praying our daughter, who lives near us, with her husband and 2 children, will change their mind. Thank you for sharing the glorious results.

The floors look gorgeous! Pine is a soft wood and absorbs the stain much more than the oak which is a hardwood. I love the character of the 2 species. Congratulations!

It looks fantastic! I am thrilled with your results! My house is a quad-split level built in 1958, so not the same situation at all, but when we bought it 6 & a half years ago, we refinished the main floors before we moved in. Man, what a difference! We did a blend of stains, and I know one was the Jacobean, but I can't remember the other! Lol! Before, it was that same shade that your cabin is! So I feel you on the orange! The only problem we have is that the hallway didn't get done,, it was sanded and stained, but never had the poly put on... This was a friend who did the work, and we all know how that goes. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ So, to this day, the wood is just sitting there susceptible to the elements. But now that we are living in the house, I don't know how we can possibly do it! It is the main entrance, for the front and back, and it has 3 of the levels of the house empty onto it!

We love the hardwood floors in our old house . We had to replace several boards but once that was done, it looked wonderful. My husband calls them “his floors” and he does the upkeep. Your historian friend here . . .if spelled Jacobean - it relates to a period of Scottish history and is pronounced Jack-oh-BEE-an. The color does look like the wood paneled walls of that period in UK manor and similar houses. Also, pine is softer and absorbs stain more readily than oak which is an extremely hard wood. Your floors are absolutely gorgeous! Yay! I sold my house to move to a paid off condo so I could retire at 62. It had carpet everywhere except the bedrooms when although there was hardwood under the carpet, previous owner's pets had basically ruined the floors with stains. I had to pay to actually replace the living room, dining room and hallway with white oak to be able to sell my house as having hardwood floors. Those were all white oak floors and the bedrooms were done in pine. The pine floors were ok to just sand and refinish. The stains on the oak floors were so deep that it would have been to much sanding to refinish. Anyway, it got done and I sold my home for asking price and was very happy with the outcome.

I bought my house in 2010 and there was an awful green carpet in the living room from the late 1960`s, we planned to install tiling on the floor, but when they removed the carpet, wow what a beautiful wooden floor came up. We did the same thing you did, and it is still beautiful it is alive it's warm to the feet I am happy that I did not put tiles on it. Greetings from Luxembourg Martin
