✅ About Lost Socket Garage:
Lost Socket Garage.com was created in 2019, though its roots run much longer. It all began with a group of friends that loved to modify their cheap high school cars with next to no actual budget. Originally focusing on our love of American Muscle, we grew into specializing in Classic Ford mustangs and more specifically the highly popular Coupe to Fastback Conversion. With the Fastback Market skyrocketing, we wanted to provide a realistic alternative to owning a classic Fastback without shelling out the premium they draw.
With many Successful conversions under our belt, our goal is to provide Knowledge, Experience, and the highest Quality in the industry at a reasonable price. At Lost Socket Garage, we truly love the car culture and the community that goes with it. It’s not about the money, it’s about making people smile when they hit the gas.
Sincerely, Hunter Smith

Definitely an option. Some drawbacks though: 1. You are waiting usually at least a year 2. Doesnt come with doors, fenders, or anything that bolts on. 3. No vin, so you have to register it as a kit car (or do other more grey area stuff). 4. No guarantee its all welded together with the right measurements because they have no doors, fender, decklid etc. We have had issues with their welded side assemblies not being welded correctly. But overall yes, still a solid option.

Now we know the risks associated with buying a “restored” car. Unless the previous owner has photographs proving the condition BEFORE painting you have to assume the worst.

I am just stunned at the prices that Fastbacks are commanding these days. I was very lucky/blessed. I got a 67 Fastback in 2003 with the luxury interior package, factory in dash AC, 289, 2 barrel with a c4 in Frost Turquoise. It was 95% all there and I got it for $2500. I had to replace the entire cowl panels and some other minors panels. I am restomodding the car but nothing that can not be undone. The car is just too valuable now to cut to pieces for a coyote engine or whatever. I completely agree with the Coupe to Fastback conversion for the working man. Thanks for the video, it was very informative.

Bought my 67 fastback in 2000 for 3grand. Had a 200ci and a 3 spd. A lot of bodywork. I still own the car and it's getting a new 427w and TKX trans. Along with a lot of new suspension parts. Brakes and ditching the 8inch rear for a 9inch.

Thoughts: If you are looking for an OEM restore of a semi rare fastback with a matching number drive train then go with the best you can find existing fastback, but if you are looking for a modernized restomod then there is no reason not to go the conversion route. In fact I would say it is better to go the conversion route if you are going the restomod direction, since you are not potentially devaluing an original car.

I do a cost comparison on the converted coupe to the VIN fastback. You can build one of these under $10k and what's more you will have a better car in the end. I converted a coupe for $6k. I made a video about it; kzbin.info/www/bejne/gnmkdneKgLSmnas

Subscribed. I'm definitely interested in doing this, but I have a few questions if anyone has time: 1) How difficult is it to find a garage willing to do this and do it well 2) How well do these converted fastbacks actually hold up over the years provided everything is done well? I'm no automotive expert but it looks like a lot of work is being done to the structural parts of the car and this makes me worry it won't hold up over the years. I've read a lot of horror stories about people or businesses who tried to take this on and ended up ruining a poor 68 coupe so I'm just curious.

If it’s done properly they’ll last just as long if not longer than original fastbacks. Since now people know to maintain and take care of the car while it’s sheet metal is new, unlike when they were first built, people didn’t take care of a lot of em.
@class5bodyworks
@class5bodyworks Жыл бұрын
I'm a body/metal/paint tech at Mustangs to Fear and we've done a few conversions. If done properly there are no issues. Problem is that most sellers want a mint for just the roof and structure and being original metal, you still have rust in areas you can't get to. Since all these replacement parts are available aftermarket I would go that route. It does take some skill to do. We just recently received a licensed Eleanor done by someone else as a conversion that was totally butchered. The inner structure was so compromised that the customer decided to go with a new body and start over. The car was just unsafe at that point. He paid over 100k for this car. About 25k for the Eleanor "license". I guess as long as you spend the money, you cam officially license a VW Bettle as an Eleanor. Apparently no one inspects these cars before handing out the tag. VIN tags are a whole different topic. Potentially a bait and switch if it's sold later as a fastback.

In high school i had a ‘65 fastback with a built 302 toploader 4spd and mach one front end….in the seventies during the gas crisis he had modified it and put the filler in the trunk and deleted the fuel cap on the back panel he owned a auto body shop ……fast foward to the 90’s my dad aquired for me …due to one condintion…that i got good grades and finished school ….long story short…..i fucked up!! He took the car and sold it….live and learn…..some 30 yrs later i now have a son that is months away from being 16 and he wants a mustang….my close friend has a ‘67 289 coupe that hes had for close to 30 years now….the car is pretty much done and his kids have no intrest in it….he told me its mine for $15k……so now i have a mustang to hold over my sons head and if he fucks up im selling it for $25k…….lol yeah im a chevy guy no harm no foul…but my wife had a ‘66 and ‘97 gt when i met her so i knew she would be on board with getting him a mustang….even though we already have 6 cars between us 3 of which have supercharged LS’s…my nova/c-10/ and cts-v…..then my duramax and tahoe…5 out of 6 are GM the 6th is a mbz so number 7 has to be a mustang…always comes full circle
