I'm impressed! Tipp from a frequent pomade user: Oil works for breaking the pomade, then wash pomade residue and oil out with shampoo.

I can't wait to get my hands on this book. I am glad to see that this worked with modern pomade. I am not sure if I am ready to commit to making my own mutton lard pomade. It was nice to see a video tutorial for the hairstyle. I own American Duchess's other book and while it is a fascinating read and there are lots of pictures, I am the type of person who really benefits from a video tutorial. Just to warn you, The American Duchess's Guide to 18th Century Dressmaking does not include dress patterns. They discuss how the dresses were assembled and give sewing patterns and assembly instructions for various accessories (caps, aprons, hats, etc), but they expect you to either purchase or create your own sewing patterns for the dresses. One thing that I thought was really cool, though, was that they had a section explaining all of the typical fit issues you might run into and how to fix them.

It does include patterns in the book, you just have to scale them up yourself. That’s why they’re on a squared background, each square represents one inch. I know because I’ve used them. You don’t need to buy a commercial pattern to use this book!

Beautiful! One tip to limit frizz is teasing the side that goes inside of the buckle rather than the side that faces out. It makes it much easier to smooth out and blend the buckles together.

This is basically how I do my hair already. I almost always wear 18th century hair. It's incredible how similar this is to how I do it. I use a mascara wand to help me roll my hair.

American duchess said on their channel they used starch and it behaves very differently than flour. And you can use starch as a dry shampoo because it's the same main component of the spray bottle of dry shampoo that shops sells for 18$ a bottle.

It's actually not easy to make these hairstyles work without pomade and powder! I tried that with a couple of my friends. We did get sort of decent looks with LOTS of hair spray, but obviously it leaves hair very hard and hard to style.

I use that pomade on my daughters hair and if you heat it up with a blow dryer in your hand it goes translucent and applies soooo much better. Fabulous job!

You'd have to brush it all out first (tangle teasers are great), then it takes a LOT of washing to get the vaseline out

You can use washing up liquid to get the grease off, but you do run the risk of damaging your hair by taking too much of the natural oils out, so it can be a bit of a gamble

Just a heads up, you should get some sort of small, thin sheet of clear plastic to lay over the book so you can see it without getting product all over the book. You might try businesses that sell cookbooks or book sellers. I know I've seen such things, but it was years ago and I can't remember where.
