The translator is horrible. Yifan actually said something interesting. That Chopin is something mandatory for most pianists, with the etudes being your first encounter where you don't give it too much thought

I am glad that everyone was respectful while waiting for Yifan Hou to get his thoughts translated. I have seen some musicians go without an interpreter for the interviews and they are nervous but everyone is still very interested in what they have to say. Hopefully they can see how everyone is very patient and listening if you have an interpreter or not. I did not know if there were interpreters there at the chopin institute or if the participants themselves supplied their own.

Ways to show off on Chopin talks. My first piece was one of the etudes. My first piece was sight reading that Nocturne. My first piece was fantasy impromptu as a kid, of course.

All Asian pianists who's native language isn't English should be given a translator. They sound much smarter in their native tongue.

Really good point. These pianists are genius……why show disrespect and not have interpreters to translate their natural language. Makes sense.
