I bought my 2022 ram 3500 cummins ho because of reliability, now I think I got screwed by cummins. I might do the hamilton solid lifter conversion but that's 6k and for that price I may be able to just swap the engine if it dies for a 2018- used motor. Makes me mad, should be a recall.

Agreed. Having the same issue with my 2022 3500. Either flat tapper swap or go look at the other two of the big three

I like these guys. Cass and Adam. Good to hear from them! Just to clarify, are we talking about all the 5th gen 6.7 blocks or just the ones with compacted graphite iron, ie high output blocks? Because those are easy to avoid. I know they put lifters in all the 5th gen blocks, instead of flat tappets, but that's not as bad as if a block cracks.
@electrified730912 күн бұрын
All the 2019+ 5th gen have the graphite blocks and hydraulic lifters and usually fail at about 100k.
@Arexodius11 күн бұрын
@@electrified7309 Ok so all 5th gen blocks should be gently handled, meaning no significant power mods. I'm much more interested in efficiency mods anyway, so I guess they kinda end up in the same category as GM's DD 6.2/6.5 diesel V8:s. Many of those blocks weren't strong, but with intelligent modifications you can get the most out of them with no issues. Would be super interesting to 5.9 swap a 5th gen though... or I guess a 4th gen 6.7...
@smoovel32228 күн бұрын
Look up Lm diesels they ran 1200 hp on the dyno on a stock 5th gen engine. These blocks are more then strong enough to handle power
@electrified73098 күн бұрын
@Arexodius Yeah I think if something happened to my 2022 I would try to replace it with a 4th gen motor. But I ordered a bypass oil filter and I'm going to try and make it last as long as I can.
@electrified73098 күн бұрын
@smoovel3222 I really don't need anymore power I just want reliability but I know what your saying if the blocks can handle that kind of hp th3y should be good. I wonder if they change or upgraded the lifters?

So all the problems with the 21+Cummins is when power is added to the engine. I’m glad that was openly stated in the episode that explained the issues with the engine the answer seemed vague as if it was a complete failure. But what it did seem like to me was when power was added and I heard it stated once but it was just stated outright.

What's wrong with a 2018?
@BentonL9 ай бұрын
@@RobertHasty they completely changed how they casted the blocks. Not only did they change the material but they actually changed how thick the block castings were. So pretty much everything with that graphite iron is thinner because they believe the material is stronger. But when you want to go full retard like I do you'll find out that they can't take as much power as their predecessors. When you do some searching on it you'll find out not even asked a question you will be getting spam these results because that's just how these platforms work anymore.

The 6.7 is functionally identical from it's introduction in 2007.5 up till 2018. In 2019 they changed the 6.7 to a GCI block, changed the lifters from solid to hydraulic and a few other things.

@ Hell no bro, use 5w-40 valvoline premium blue and change every 5k, I have never had an issue out the 5th gen. Even then ford and Chevy use hydraulic lifters too. Aisin is way more stout of a transmission than any 10l slippy in a ford and gm. Very rarely do I see any of the other trucks past 300k. I’ve seen countless Cummins with 500k plus. They’re slower in stock form but tuned up with a 2nd gen swap (turbo) they are freaking rowdy and very reliable except transmission will hurt but so does any transmission with a spicy tune and big turbo.
