I deleted my truck because I kept having problems with my emissions and kept spending THOUSANDS of dollars repairing it. Even if i did it myself, i would still spend thousands of dollars. My truck would stay on regen mode for hours driving on the highway and I'd get average of 6 to 8 mpg. That's bullshit. I deleted it and tuned it and it woke up my truck. I get great milage, less repairs and my truck has over 600,000 miles on it. Without that delete, that truck wouldn't have seen more than 250k miles

That's why my 2000 F-250 Lariat 7.3 SD is still on the road. It's been an amazing reilable truck and motor... the only thing I've to replace was the front hubs, my bad for running Phat tires that wore out the hubs. The Water/Meth injection has peque my interest, I have added mods like HI A/C injectors, upgraded the turbo, Banks Intercooler plus the Trans Command module and running a TS power chip set on stage 4 which works for me! I talk to alot of folks about my 7.3 and tell them to let her indle 5 minutes or the piro is under 350 degrees... as a OTR driver in my past life keeping the EGR temps down will give you a Million mile motor!

Thanks for the excellent podcast. I have driven a diesel since 1982 when GM was raping the public with their 5.7 liter converted gas engines. I made a few changes and made that 5.7 last 350,000 miles. I had always wanted a Dodge ram with a Cummins and finally got one. It was a 2001 long bed quad cab with a 5.9 HO and 6 speed manual. This truck got better fuel mileage than the S-10 Blazer or the Astro vans I had. We took it on vacation because it was so economical at 23.7 mpg running down the highway at 70 through the mountains in Missouri, Tennessee, Kentucky. I had gotten over 25 mpg on several tanks. That's hand calculated!!!. I expected similar results when I had to upgrade to a 2008 2500 HD with a 6.7. I wanted to do the right thing and be emissions compliant but the truck was in the shop twice a month for the first year I had it. They kept telling me they would fix it. LOL!!! My fuel economy with that truck was 25% less than the 2001 because of the emissions system. The same EPA that is truing to force impossible mileage goals for the manufacturer just killed one of the most economical vehicles on the road. I engaged a lawyer, sent all of the repair bills which were all emissions system related to Dodge explaining that due to loss of use, time off of work taking the truck back and forth to the dealer, decreased fuel economy, etc that they compensate me $15,000. They came back with an offer of $7500 if I would just go away, they didn't even contest it. The emissions system as originally designed and manufactured was defective. It would not work anywhere but in a controlled environment. You guys are correct in that they have no idea what they are enforcing, how the system works or anything else for that matter. If they would allow the manufacturers to build a system that would work in everyday use, I would go for it but they won't. They have run Volkswagen diesel cars out of the US and seem to be working on the rest of the industry. If they would work with the manufacturers to build a system that would work without huge maintenance costs and fuel economy penalties maybe people wouldn't be deleting. Their job is to find things to worry about. If they don't, they don't have jobs so they will create new issues that keep them cramming laws down our throats to keep themselves employed. They have made many of us criminals but they accept no responsibility for the problems we are having. Sorry for the long rant but I've been enjoying diesels for 40 years and now the idiots are threating to take that away along with many of our other freedoms. Thanks again for the podcast.

Now with computers, the systems can be tuned to way cleaner burning engines. I have proven this with my own personnel 08 6.4 by tuning and adding a (Modified) baffled and screened catch can. Equals fewer contaminants in the intake system, cleaner burn in the combustion chamber, and better HP. Improved MPG. Fewer emissions, and improved engine life on all internal moving parts. Less downtime.

I know this is an old video but, I love how this is done! And we are all breaking the law it's just not enforced is very true! There are too many laws to all be enforced and many of them are in direct conflict with each other. I have been driving a diesel for the last 30 years. The 7.3 was the first standard for light to medium trucks. I am the third owner of my current diesel a 6.4 powerstroke that was set up and runs great tuned to the same output of the newest 6.7 high output and gets better fuel economy. The ironic part is I went to the State of Georgia and bought it from a dealer because they were wholesaling because to sell it otherwise they would have to put it back fully to stock or face possible fines and jeopardize their dealership license. The fact that those that are being tasked with enforcing the laws do not know the law. Keep putting out the updates because I don't think that anyone really knows the laws that cover this subject. Because as best as I (retired LEO) understand what the actual EPA standard of the Law states is that the vehicle must pass the emissions test standard that it did at the date it was manufactured!! With or without factory equipment if it meets that standard it is in compliance with what the EPA Law states!!

I showed him my recipe that I had just bought $150 of groceries and had been in the store for an hour..I fired my truck up and floored it and it blew zero coal...the cop said, "well you changed the tune", but my truck doesn't have a tuner and he looked at my phone and I showed him I have no tune app....the Karen pulled up and said, " no that's not him, but all those disgusting trucks need pulled off the roads"...people make me sick...she was driving a brand new EQS S-Class Mercedes-Benz EV car... I now own a 2017 Ford 6.7 f250, the biggest mistake I ever made because of the fuel mileage, 12 Mpg towing a light trailer, maybe 15 Mpg on the highway without, and constantly worrying about a $10,000 breakdown .During my pick up truck owning/driving career I sold my 1997 F250 with a 7.3 ( bought it new and meticulously maintained it) It only had 74,000 miles on it when I sold it in 2006. Dam thing used to get 24-26 miles to the gallon- didn't matter if I drove it in the city or on the highway. I couldn't even smell burning diesel coming out of the exhaust, never black exhaust and when cold a little light grey exhaust, and unbelievably the engine oil stayed very clean looking between oil changes. Only problem that I ever had was the oil pan leaked (a lot) and was told by numerous mechanics that the engine had to be pulled or that the cab had to be lifted to reseal the pan at a cost of over $2,500.00 at the time, which was one of the reasons that I sold it. I have since found out that there is an outfit somewhere in Mass. that you can buy a two piece oil pan for less than $500.00 dollars. I'm seriously considering selling it, I had plans to pull a small 5th wheel toy hauler when my wife retires in two years so that we can travel the country together but I'm afraid that something catastrophic is going to happen to it before that time comes. Anyhow- just venting...

Most trucks do not get deleted with zero miles on them, they're getting deleted when the emission system(s) fail a couple times, and the owner realizes how costly it is with downtime to fix with no real signs improvement to be seen for their very expensive investment. The fallacy is that people still say diesels are "Million Mile" engines if taken care of, they are NOT anymore. We pay a premium for having a diesel engine, at purchase, and for maintenance & repairs. Because the expectation is that a diesel will have better working performance, and this is a big one, LONGEVITY. We already expect to pay more for these 2 things with a diesel engine, so when the emission systems fail regularly, often creating insane downtime, it becomes extremely tempting to delete and gain back LONGEVITY and often a 50% increase or more in fuel economy based on tune.

Have you looked behind your EGR and seen how plugged with soot and goo your intake is? Have you been behind and followed, have you been stuck in trafic when one of these 08 to 2010 veh while it is in regen? Try it on a hot day. And as the owner or driver in this situation your life could be threatened. Have your oil tested at your 5000 + recommended service. And you have 2 + quarts extra in your crankcase and that turns out to be fuel that has by passed your rings during regen that is just destroying to life of your engine. PS since I put a large volume 4" catchcan with 1" ports and a baffle plate on my blowby for my 08 6.4 Powerstroke my cold start has improved greatly and the amount of black smoke on lift off in stop and go traffic has greatly improved no black smoke on a normal lift off with a meadum load.👍👍

Curious that all government diesels do NOT have def dpf or regen crap on them for reliability and no breakdowns. I wonder how that would play out in court? Granted they don't remove all that emissions crap, because they can buy it straight from Ford without it. Yes you heard me correctly. Our government can buy diesels from the factory without dpf def or any regen crap installed.

Well there’s the problem. Why can’t we get aftermarket parts and not have to pay 19k in parts?! If the government could fix that, then more trucks would be compliant. And some people would be able to get in the business of making emissions parts. Carb is a money grab claiming to be the gatekeeper. As long as a truck passes emissions test, there should be no question how it got there. Fix that and we can fix people keeping emissions on.

0:46 Answer to first Question: You can use a decarboniser additive with each refuel. The product I used has independent scientific reports AND was tested by a NATA certified testing specialist which is part of the Brisbane city council. The test compared a new Isuzu diesel ute first without any additives, then with CEM (Australian based Cost Effective Maintenance…mining companies are saving big bucks as Cat Dozers last much longer than recommended with less wear than the non additive engines.). Anyway, I’m only going to mention the decarboniser increases the cetane rating a little and because of the slightly better combustion not only reduces the number of particulates, but the size of the soot. This obviously means reduced regenerations saving money here. As well, when doing a regen, the DPF burns hotter and this reduces regen time. I’ve used their products for about 15 years. As I buy in bulk it actually pays for itself in slightly increased fuel consumption. The other benefit is cleaner engine internals and injector spray pattern is maintained as designed. One mind blowing fact I know is that the oil additive AW10 allows the engine oil soot loading to double (and still keep the oil within specs), now I’m not saying to extend your servicing intervals…I would never do that, in fact I like to cut them short. Every 50,000 klms I do a “double flush” using the flush concentrate and use cheap oil, just drive about 15 klms, then dump the oil to put the good stuff in, of course with AW10. 2% per volume is all u need. They have a cheap book which has many customer successes (including a large mining company I was telling u about). I get nothing out of telling you about this…I’m just a diesel lover, from small vehicles to 4x4 to V8 twin turbo Audi Q7 I owned years ago…Damm that was a fast SUV (was tuned, small exhaust mods). Currently I own a heavily modified LandCruiser Prado 2007 (240kW, 560 Nm at the wheels). Thinking about an older US truck pre DPF and mechanical fuel injection…any suggestions? FYI, typically DPFs should be removed and specially cleaned every 150,000 klms and in Australia the best in the business charge. $600 AUD. Thing is, by using the decarboniser you will extend this very much longer. Not sure what u guys have in the US, but just make sure it’s laboratory and field tested with quality company reports.

I use Lucas Diesel Deep Clean. Gotta have it. I was in the oilfield for many years using a truck that had the DEF system on it. In those vocational environments (idle time, PTO time, wait, etc) with cold weather especially - you gotta use it. Otherwise you'll plug up the SCR fast. Downtime is unacceptable in work environments and it'll break your business. I put 400,000 hard miles on the truck in 6 years and had ZERO emissions issues. It was a Freightliner 122SD with a Detroit 600HP diesel and 18 speed transmission with 46K rears. You MUST use LDDC to keep the filters clean. PLUS - do regular forced regens. Especially if you drive just local distances. Otherwise the shops will get you with high $$$$$ repairs.

I sold a 2016 f350 dually with the 6.7 simply because of the emissions. It was a great truck and very powerful. I had it deleted, from the def to the oil cooler it was deleted. I got a ticket for not having a dpf filter and looked into putting it back to stock and it was just too expensive. I sold the truck to a logger and bought a gas burner. I can still pull my tractor and equipment I just get started a little slower.

My worry is that pre emissions diesel will have to become emission compliant or has to be unregistered because they are no longer exempt from emissions. I grew up around diesels and always had a passion for them. I like the newer diesels because they have a lot of nice features but have failing emissions equipment or are 50,000+ dollars even when it’s a 10+ year old truck. So with emissions on newer diesels makes the pre emissions one go way up in value and harder to buy. I’ve been wanting to buy a obs 7.3 powerstroke or a 2nd Gen 12v or 24v that’s not rusted out and lower mileage. But even the rusted out high mileage are selling for like 15,000+ and I remember when clean low mileage ones a few years ago you could buy under 10,000 now they sell for 20,000+. You know I haul hay and haul cattle feed and tow quite often in a very hilly environment and I’m 18 fresh out of school and I could use even a older diesel. These hills are killing my 03 5.3 Silverado. It will do the work but I’m getting 4-7 mpg because of the hills. But can’t find a decent older diesel truck that isn’t high mileage or rusted out without being a ridiculous price. Like I said even the rusted out high mileage ones that have been ran hard are still selling for 15k + and the ones that are selling for like 5-10k are really high mileage rusted out with a lot of problems that would cost more to fix then what the truck is worth.

your best bet, buy a pre 06 truck, it will be high mileage but find one who has papers proving the work done. Your best bet will be to plan to rebuild it, make it new. What this guy is saying might be true for the work truck but for those of us with commuter diesels like my 2018 GMC terrain with the 1.6L LH7 diesel, it's not the DPF that's the problem that thing stays clean as a whistle, it's the intake manifold that looks like clogged arteries and it's spitting black abrasive diesel snot straight onto my intake valves! I have a good catch can and it's still out of control. Somebody please tell me because I honestly don't know the answer, why do we NOT take the EGR AFTER the DPF so we're not picking up all that soot?? My only guess is that after the DPF there may not be enough pressure to overcome the boost pressure in the manifold. But something needs to be done. This is what's killing engines. P.S.
