It is really frustrating when the problem does NOT happen when you go to the shop! I once RAN into my repair shop when a problem was occurring so they could see first hand the issue before the problem played hide and seek again!😊

Yup, some folks don't seem to understand that ya can fix something that's not broken (as in intermittent). Just had a fellow come over and look at an intermittent washer issue. Of course, while he was here it did not act up, but I offered to pay him. It was his time and knowledge that I wanted ... and got. Anyway, he declined and I thanked ever so much. When I owned a business I would always bend over backwards for my customers ... but ... I would never bend over forward. Hang in there!

Mike, it's good to know you work on all cars and trucks plus you are honest.

Recently, my daughter's '16 Hyundai 2.0L would stall, or try to stall under similar circumstances and the check oil light would flicker, then go out. Turned out the oil level was down 2+ qts and I determined it was trying too go into "limp home mode" due to low oil. Performed an oil change and the stalling issue did not return.

Very Intermittent. Customers will never understand the diagnosis time. You only know if you know. Good Luck, those jobs suck!👍🏻🇺🇲

As a retired software guy, throughout my whole career, I sympathized with an auto mechanic having to wrestle with a non reproducible issue. Fixing a software bug often involves tons of knowledge of complex code, and much pondering of things like "ok, how could this be happening? What is triggering this issue? How did we get over here in the code?" With software, it's often a weird (unexpected) combination of actions and settings.

I had an intermittent "cuts out while driving" on like a late 80's Volvo sedan years ago. Could not duplicate. Customer said "keep it, drive it like it's yours". So I did. Drove it to and from work for a week, not far, just a few miles. Nothing. Second week, 2 blocks from work in the a.m., it starts to run rough at 35 mph cruising, wanted to stall. I sped up as much as I could, thinking I could coast it to work. Cop pulled me over for 55 in a 35. Lol. Got a warning, since he knew my boss (small-ish town). It re-started, then died in the shop. Turned out to be a fuel pump relay or something, long time ago. But I do remember whatever it was was in the center console....I think. Haha. Take care, man, and stay cool!

Vheck the wires for the sensors. I had a 2011 mustang that I modified with a supercharger and I pulled the MAF sensor off so many times. One of the pins like got loose and for a while until I figured it out it would just randomly stumble for a little bit and then I guess the wire would get back in again and it would work just fine and it would happen out of nowhere and it was the pins and the map sensor plug

If someone was that mouthy about my diagnostic abilities or cost, I’d suggest they work through a Kia dealership and compare their ability and cost to diagnose. One of two things would happen: car owner goes broke *or* Kia dealer at some point would turn away servicing customer’s car entirely.

Kia and Hyundai have major oil consumption issues and you cannot ignore the dipstick.... Every 500-1000 just check the oil. They will starvve the cams and upper bearings and cause alot of timing issues. It's no wonder they don't pay their techs.... They probably didn't pay the engineers either.

I had a Ford Probe which had a very obvious problem. There was a noise in the suspension when you turn the wheel to the right. The dealer called and said they could not duplicate. I told them that it was extremely obvious and if the mechanic couldn't duplicate, he should be fired. They found the problem.

My friends 19 forte just stopped running. It has 2 codes p0016 and p0017. Both are crank to cam correlation codes (crank to intake cam and crank to exhaust cam). 1 shop told him his engine was trash. I don't believe them. Any ideas?

I have a 2011 kia sorento 2.4l and she stalled every now and then at low rpm, it was the crankshaft position sensor, swapped it out, no more stalling 🤷♂️

Why does anyone still buy kia(killed in action). It's a miracle he made it back to the shop. I see at least one everyday blowing smoke from the exhaust. And they gave you the ability to connect your scan tool to the on board display so you can always know there's a problem

Kias are trash. I inherited a 2016 sportage when my dad passed. He was the most fastidious person i know when it came to car maintenance and i think that's the only thing that kept that car alive.
