After the war, the old Mauser factory was in the French occupation zone. They had the staff make guns for them for a while, and when they pulled out their troops they blew up the factory. The engineers got various jobs just to get by, some going to work for CETME in Spain. H&K was founded in that time period in the same town as the Mauser factory, with a lot of the former Mauser employees. They eventually were able to get back into making guns, so H&K is the literal successor to Mauser, and I think they even acquired the Mauser trademark.

I tried a brace, and found that it got in the way more than it helped me on this gun, then deduced that a stock would not help my use case either (home defense.) I felt that the brace took away some maneuverability for me. I also saw that rail issue before I got it and managed to find an optic mount that has none of the issues you mention, is a perfect co-witness, and dims in dark so as not to reveal my position.. I haven't been able to do this on my AK yet. The housing of the red dot I am using works in combination with the front sight as a rough aperture sight in case of a red dot failure, and I removed the rear sight.

I bought the original SP5K that didn’t have the tri-lug or the paddle mag release when they first came out. I absolutely loved it seeing as it was my first time to have an actual MP5 made by H&K. I’ve since then bought two of the SP5’s to go along with the SP5K and recently I bought a SP5k PDW also. I haven’t shot it yet but I’m sure it’s just as much fun as all my other SP5 variants. Funny thing is the original SP5K came with a rail on the top to mount optics and it seemed like that was one of the things people complained about also seeing as it took away from the traditional MP5K appearance. That is probably one of the reasons why the SP5K PDW came without a top rail mount Also, H&K makes a paddle mag release retrofit kit for the original SP5K so that is now on my SP5K.

If I'm going to be running the gun suppressed 100% of the time, which would be a better suppressor host overall: the fullsize SP5 or the SP5K-PDW? @@rondobrondo well unfortunately I haven’t suppressed any of my SP5’s so I don’t know if one would function better than the other suppressed but if you are planning on using a longer suppressor just keep in mind that the guns themselves are either 17.5” long for the full size SP5 without a brace and 13.5” long for the SP5K PDW without a brace so if that’s your bump in the night gun, the SP5 could be kinda long with a suppressor. I have looked up issues with suppressing the SP5K PDW and the only one I could find was according to H&K as long as you are using 124gr and 147gr ammo with a suppressor on your SP5K-PDW right out of the box, you should be fine.

I wouldn't call the SP5K impractical though. I have the regular SP5 and do agree that it's the one you should own first! However, I now see reasons to also have a SP5K. The SP5, while compact, is back when guns were actually made with steel and not just polymers. Once you add a stock, rail, light, optic, maybe a suppressor - it's not lightweight. The SP5K could also work as a really really nice backpack gun configured with the B&T stock that telescopes entirely in or just leave the stock end plate, but still SBR it so you can use a sling + broom handle method like it was originally designed for. A shorter barrel also means less velocity, so maybe a marginally quieter suppressed. In the past year, OEM style broom handle grips have become available with modified mounting options for a light and pressure pad while still keeping the classic look and ergonomics. That makes it a very viable home defense weapon too. Imagine SP5K, suppressed, light, and utilizing the HK dual mag clamp with either 2x30rd or 2x20rd magazines for more compactness. You have a great amount of fire power and capability there. If I'm crazy (because I am quite the HK fan), let me know! I like to think that despite my bias, there are still some roles for the SP5K.

Which one do you think is the better package overall with that long silencer? I own several HK firearms, I got converted over to them after wasting thousands of dollars on lesser weapons lol. I have a USP Compact 9mm in V7 light LEM, with Meprolight night sights, HK P2000, also with light LEM, an HK45 Compact Tactical (the best HK45 IMO), and an HK VP9 (good, but not incredible like the USPc is).
@WalterRitchey21 күн бұрын
@ hmmm I have a SP5 and had a SilencerCo Octane and it was decently long. I’m now waiting on an Omega 9k which is titanium and very compact. About perfect size for a standard SP5. I think eventually, regardless which version you go with, you will end up wanting a can designated to this platform and have a three lug adapter that lives on the can. Adding 7.5” to a SP5 would make it similar size and weight to a rifle. So maybe build out a SP5K-PDW and go from there.

Which the K would absolutely make more sense than the full size and a SBR. To me, the full size is dying off, and the K is the one you wanna get. With things like the magpul mlok HGs, and B&T collapsible stock. It’ll do whatever the full size can do, but faster. And THAT should be taken into perspective. When your gun is made to be fast, YOU train to be fast. And that’s whats gonna save your life.

Anyone know what the suppressor is on the mp5k?
@eco8gator3 жыл бұрын
Why don't you just grip the mag well/grip vs relying on the vertical fore grip? It is very easy to control just gripping the front of the mag well/grip.

Serious question driven by random curiosity. Do you guys pick up your brass or leave it scattered all over nature? It would seem to be extremely difficult to police that much brass as much as you guys are running and gunning.
@1911syndicate3 жыл бұрын
I think most people on public land leave the brass. The shooting spots have people that go out to collect it

@@larrysparks8493 Brass is okay, it's the lead but seriously what are yah gonna do, the cost of business, but leaving shotgun hulls all over is sickening, it's plastic and animals chew on them sometimes and they look like actual litter so I pick them up.

I completely understand it.....a 1960's design, that is to expensive for what it is, and way to heavy for a 9mm sub gun. Spend the money on a B&T, and you will be much happier. Ambi design, last round bolt hold, available to take three different magazine types, just as accurate, smaller, lighter, suppressor ready, and multiple rails, all stock from the factory. Next question? Sorry, you opened that door.

Yeah, but then you have a B&T.. not an HK mp5. And at the end of the day, looking cool is 50% of shooting
@dougdarby35642 жыл бұрын
MP5s are by design expensive to produce But they are worth it to me My Z5RS is way better in my mind than a B&T Its all about the roller locked design My gun was $2000 How much for your B&T? To and too or too much for you to say too or to say when?
@Sam_Holladay3 жыл бұрын
Find the briefcase it goes in, with the trigger in the handle. Is it useful? No. Cool? Yes. Can you hit targets effectively with it? Probably not, but who cares when you have a briefcase that shoots 9mm out the side of it.

hmm i wouldnt necessarily say that HK is a "new" Company. The Founders were all Mauser Employes they probably just didnt want to continue as Mauser because of bad ww2 reputation. But they have the knowledge of a much older company

I understand it completely, an awesome gun, definitely a classic, but I'll never have one, and I don't want one. I have no use for a non full auto 9mm carbine that costs $3000.

I had a chance to buy the SP5 at 2,800$ about a year ago maybe a little longer, I thought it was too steep of a price. Now they sell for over 4K. If I ever see one for 2,800$ again I would buy one.
