Sam Mendes, the Oscar®-winning director of Skyfall, Spectre and American Beauty, brings his singular vision to his World War I epic, 1917.
At the height of the First World War, two young British soldiers, Schofield (Captain Fantastic’s George MacKay) and Blake (Game of Thrones’ Dean-Charles Chapman) are given a seemingly impossible mission. In a race against time, they must cross enemy territory and deliver a message that will stop a deadly attack on hundreds of soldiers-Blake’s own brother among them.
1917 is directed by Sam Mendes, who wrote the screenplay with Krysty Wilson-Cairns (Showtime’s Penny Dreadful). The film is produced by Mendes and Pippa Harris (co-executive producer, Revolutionary Road; executive producer, Away We Go) for their Neal Street Productions, Jayne-Ann Tenggren (co-producer, The Rhythm Section; associate producer, Spectre), Callum McDougall (executive producer, Mary Poppins Returns, Skyfall) and Brian Oliver (executive producer, Rocketman; Black Swan).
The film is produced by Neal Street Productions for DreamWorks Pictures in association with New Republic Pictures. Universal Pictures will release the film domestically in limited release on December 25, 2019 and wide on January 10, 2020. Universal and Amblin Partners will distribute the film internationally, with eOne distributing on behalf of Amblin in the U.K.

Ehh, Midway is directed by Roland Emmerich, who is basically the Michael Bay of Europe. From the trailer you can already tell it's gonna have way more style than substance and an overabundance of clearly CGI shots. Won't get my hopes up too much for that one.

Deaths were about 300.000 total or about 2.500 per day. It just shows the huge waste of human life ww1 was, and most commanders or generals during this time had the firm belief that you just had to throw more troops at it. I can hardly see any of those leading figured or even officers say that 1.600 dead is a massacre.
@motornaut

Trump just wish it was more accurate. DICE had a great opportunity that they ruined. In a lot of ways though, World War One was a lot more intense than World War Two. Especially on the frontlines. Gas attacks, massive human waves, trench warfare, artillery batteries that would still shock the world today, massive fortifications, and so on.

I can't agree at all, they call it world war 2 for a reason. Not only were the stakes far worse in world war 2 than in 1, but the devastation caused and warfare used were cataclysmic. Two also sees technologic advancements, with weapons far more destructive than in one, and even at the end of the war, the use of the atomic bomb. Both wars are bad, of course, but 2 is infinitely more intense and worse than one.
@compassbrian
@compassbrian 5 жыл бұрын
Memes Are KEEM second was a lot worse for civilization as a whole. Cities gone. Women and kids gone. And so on. However, World War One had the longest protracted battles this world has ever seen. Constant killing fields. This allowed the sides to gear up and use their manpower to an extent that only saw more giant massacres. If so many sides weren’t taken out so quickly by the Germans in the first part of the war in ww2 then perhaps ww2 would of had scarier battles, but at the end of the day the frontlines in ww1 are unmatched in our histories.

Benedict Cumberbatch: Oh yeah. You’re much more of a “Jerry”. German soldier: I take it the Sturmtruppen are dead? This day extracts a heavy toll. Still, they accomplished his mission. Benedict Cumberbatch: You may regret that. He brought you face-to-face with the strongest nation on earth. German soldier: Where do you think he brought you? Benedict Cumberbatch: Let me guess. Your home? German soldier: It was. And it was beautiful. The Holy Roman Empire was like many other empires; too many ethnic groups, not enough autonomy to go around. And when we faced secession, I offered a solution. Benedict Cumberbatch: Genocide. German soldier: At random. Dispassionate, fair to rich and poor alike. They called me a madman. And what I predicted came to pass. Benedict Cumberbatch: Congratulations. You're a prophet. German soldier: I'm a survivor. Benedict Cumberbatch: Who wants to murder trillions. German soldier: With all six offensives, I could simply snap my fingers; they would all cease to exist. I call that... mercy. Benedict Cumberbatch: Then what? German soldier: I finally rest, and watch the sun rise on a grateful Europe. The hardest choices require the strongest wills.

Excluding the world wars. Easily the most influential conflict in man kind... and there’s barely any movies about it. I mean it would lay the foundation for a power struggle that lasted half a century and would almost lead to a nuclear war that would end just about all life on earth. The only other greater conflict I can think of would be perhaps the English civil war or the American civil war.
