Jonathan, I cannot express in any words how delighted I am to see our family car in the right hands. Having been in the family garage for over 50 years, I grew up sitting in this car and dreaming of some day owning and driving it. It is so great to see it again. Please keep the videos coming. I cant wait to show my grandfather, the original owner of this very rare model.

I lay here in my sick bed as I got bitten by a tick and got Lyme disease that is so entrenched that I will have it the rest of my life until it kills me unless they come out with better treatment. Every day I wake up and feel like a bigger tank has run me over. I don't bring it up to whine, but to simply just say thanks for all your cool adventures that I get to live again through by proxy by watching your videos. I would love to tinker and play on anything mechanical and that just isn't really possible anymore. Not only is it fun to watch your adventures, it is humbling to watch how hard you work and are always doing something productive. I grew up as a farm boy and learned to work and work hard and work hard all day long -- how I miss those days as ridiculous as that sounds. Oh how I miss the sense of accomplishment. It is also humbling to see how brilliant and capable you are. I always thought I was pretty capable until I see how incredibly smart and talented you are. Thanks for the videos and God bless and God speed brother.

Brilliant first ride. Didn't take you long to fathom out the brakes and I bet you'll not find any problems you cannot solve. What I love, is seeing the bare bones of the vehicle, all the woodwork construction shows how much craftsmanship went into cars of this style and era, the floor panels, door mechanism's, roof construction, etc. This is going to be an awesome finished vehicle knowing the skills and high levels of craftsmanship you invest in all your projects. You are the ideal custodian of this piece of history that will show future generations how motoring started, even if they travel in vehicles made of plastic and glue! Glad you have attained one of your dream ambitions. Regards from Scotland!

In 1927 hydraulic brakes were the equivalent of today's self driving cars. When Plymouth debuted in 1929 they created a sensation because they were the first "every man's" car that had hydraulic brakes. Good score, you've earned it....

Another very, very enjoyable video!! Thank you. I enjoy your 'every mans' understanding and approach to Vintage cars. I too share the same values re: these historic pieces. People forget that only 14 years before this 'marvel' was made and sold most people used HORSES for their 'transport' These were incredible machines that were made to be driven. Want yours pretty? good for you but first and foremost,....drive them, let them be seen and appreciated for what they were meant to be and are, incredible leaps in technology as well as being lovely, often elegant, labor saving devices to release people from harder work and to be exhilarated by 'motion with out effort' KUDOS AGAIN for sharing your treasures!

It is so great to see an old surviving antique car - find an owner who is willing to put cash and time into it - and then let this old veteran car see the open road once again. The Elcar is an unusual brand and very few people today would know that this brand of automobile ever existed.

Again I say "What a treasure". I don't know if you have any lubrication specifications or not. Many early automobiles and trucks required a heavy 400-600wt. oil/grease in the non-synchromesh transmissions. It slowed the gears down when shifting. We called it poor man's synchro in the Model A Club. Those are about the earliest Hydraulic Brakes that I've seen outside aircraft. Another example of it being an expensive top line car. What fun.

Somebody did a great rebuild on that engine - sounds really good. Nice job figuring out those brakes - I've got a '48 Willy's I just did a brake rebuild on and I can't get the brakes to bleed. No leaks but the fluid is going somewhere - can't figure it out. Fairly new master cylinder but that must be the culprit. But I can't figure out where the fluid is disappearing to....so I envy you figuring out your problem! Nice job.

Beautiful car the colors want paint should really set it off. It's great shape love the big chrome grill and the head lights rear bumpers are a little strange not much protection in the center. I like the sound. When you get done it'll look incredible. woord running boards are a easy fix if every need to replace them. I wish you the best of luck with your new toy. Thats some car port I'd enclose it be better protection, So that blue color is a primer lucked out with windows a lot near things on that car. I remember riding in my Dads corvair it was a 60 with gasoline fired heater he never had a problem but they replaced it was kind scary when fired up the first time it did put some heat. I pity the ones that were in the car when heater caught on fire. Great big car with lots of parts very interesting car.Good Luck

Jonathan - Nobody when I was a kid double clutched these cars. First to intermiate at 7-8 mph, shift to high at 12-15 mph. Get the hang of it and virtually silent shifts. The higher the speed you shift at, the harder it is to make quiet shifts.
@jerryw65773 жыл бұрын
My dad would shift that way and lug the engine below idle speed before down shifting. Drove me crazy. Most acceleration tests back in his youth were done from a rolling start in top gear also. Engine bearing design and metallurgy have come a long way since then.
@newtsfarm6 жыл бұрын
I like the way you think concerning restoring that car. I been to a lot of car shows and you can look at the description of a car and it'll say " paint by so an so, engine rebuilt by another so and so, upulstery by someone else and nothing or almost nothing done by the owner. It makes me wonder why they even bother owning it or taking it to a show.
@nonelost15 жыл бұрын
Well, at least they give credit where credit is due. And at least they do hire someone else to do the work right, rather than screw it up trying to restore it themselves, or take years on end to restore it because they're too proud to let someone else do the work. Such projects often wind up incomplete. And then they wind up going to the junkyard.
