1939 John Deere A Part 14 Valve Tappets and....Uh Oh

Finishing up putting the engine together by installing valve tappet assembly and adjusting them to spec. Unfortunately I stumbled upon an unexpected surprise with the fan shaft as I was installing other components.

I never would have guessed there were different size fans. But I like your solution.

If you don’t do hard core farming on a hot day you’ll be fine.

I may have missed this in a prior video, but did you not use the original fan for this tractor and that’s why it was too big? Or was it because of the spacer you installed that pushed it too far forward that was causing the issue?

I switched from the old rubber coupling style to the friction disc style so it's a totally different fan. It's in another set of videos. The old rubber would fail and send the fan through the radiator, so I panelist preemptively switched it.

Someone needs to check what the 0.020" hot clearance measures out when its cold.
