I haven't been to a barber since I was a kid, lol. When I was 18 I bought some Oster clippers and whenever I get to feeling a bit shaggy I just buzz cut it all down. Now being 51 I'm on my third set of clippers as I wore out the Oster and then the Sunbeam after about ten years each and now I have Remington clippers and they're still good after 13 years. Good job on that door!

Thanks Rebel. I just as soon do a buzz cut but the Mrs has threatened me with never letting me catch her should I do such, and I ain't as fast as I used to be, LOL.

Spent a few days recently adjusting the doors on a 57 Chevy two door hardtop. One of the things I learned is that sometimes, shimming the body mounts is necessary and helps to get the doors to fit properly. In your case, If you could slightly shim the body mount under the door hinge pillar, that would "lift" the door (at the hinge/front side) and allow you to close that lower gap to lower the latch side of the door. A "fender" washer may be all you need for an adjustment. The door gap likely was NEVER perfect when it left the factory back in 1949. ;o)
@Volfandt
@Volfandt 4 жыл бұрын
Great suggestions. I came to the conclusion that the lower hinge arm needed bent up but decided enlarging the slots was an easier path to take. Shimming sounds easier. Matter of fact the right side door gets some attention in the next episode that involves shimming. Thanks

Our 1948 Chevy 3100 Series truck does not have the two cab shackles it has One centerline shackle ( as GM called them inverted shackles) and we can’t find any supplier that has the the repair kit for it. That shackle is illustrated in the 1947 - 1954 Shop manual. I’ve been told that the only solution is to retrofit the two shackle to our truck. We would really like to keep the original shackle. Your advise is appreciated.

Appreciate the recon on the door alignment tips. Feel confident enough now to tackle them hinges on my '53. But reckon the cab shackles best come first.

It's not hard but can be aggravating. 2 men would make it much simpler. I actually thought of rigging up my cherry picker to hold the door up whilst I aligned it up and may do so in the future. Keep your powder dry.

I realize that this is an older post - BUT I have brought new door hinges for my 55 series one and after constant battles - I am finding that the lower hinge tilt is tilted too much. I will probably throw a torch on it this weekend to pull out a few degrees so that the bottom will come into alignment?? Anybody??
@Volfandt
@Volfandt 8 ай бұрын
Actually bending the hinge(s) to get proper alignment is in the manual. chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/shop/1948_51truck/51ctsm0106.htm It's not surprising nor unusual that aftermarket parts need adjustment/modification to work and even OEM parts needed tweeked also. Good luck.

How did you adjust the gap between the can floor and the bottom of the door? I have a 1/2 inch gap, with the hinge face plate only able to adjust up and down, im having a hard time with it. I noticed on your video you had the same issue, but cant tell if you fixed it.
@Volfandt
@Volfandt 4 жыл бұрын
I had to notch the lower hinge where it bolts in the door in order to get the alignment and clearances as right as I could get it. The bottom is aligned pretty good but the top gap is wider at the front of the door than the rear. But it seals up and closes properly so I'm leaving as is for now. Good luck Jesse

Flywheel plugs. We have purchased the timing hole cover plug. However, on the right hand side (forward of the driver side) there is a hole about 2 ½ inch hole with no plug. I can't find any of supplier that offers this plug. Your help is appreciated.`

216 Engine Valve Cover and PCV valve: 1- In your maintenance video you address that you installed a "breather Cap." Our valve cover is just like the one your engine. Though we don't have the same condensation issues we would like to reconfigure ours to like the one you have. Have you considered that water may enter the existing top slots of the cover? How did you accomplish adding the breather / servicing cap? 2- How and what PCV valve did you use? Thank you

Door looks good. Just a thought are both lowering blocks the same size thinking that might cause some of the cab skew? I think we are of the same opinion about the frame being too low. I tend to like the way they were built by the manufacturer. My dad had a 1950 or 51 Dodge "B" he used at our service station in central NC sure wish I had it back.👍
@Volfandt
@Volfandt 4 жыл бұрын
Both blocks are the same size. The cab has had some serious body work done due to that right rear corner getting smashed ( by what I do not know) and that may also be a contributor. I will be dealing with those blocks soon. Thanks for the comments and for watching.

I must say that I really have fun watching your videos. Your personality is fantastic and you do a great job. As to the shackles, I have 1948 3100 Series Chevy truck and it has ONLY ONE cab shackle right in the centerline of the cab and I can't find any supplier for a rebuild kit. Would you happen to know where I can get the rebuild kit? Classic Part, Chevy's of the 40's nor Jim Carter or LMC have the kits. You help is appreciated.

Thanks Chan. Wish I could help you out. If you haven't, give some of these aftermarket providers a call and see what they can recommend. Do you think the bushings in the later 49 shackles would work in your 48? Good luck Dave
@chandiaz7694
@chandiaz7694 4 жыл бұрын
@@Volfandt I have considered that the 1949 shackle bushings could work. I may just gamble and order a set fro 1 1949 configuration and measure them to see if they would fit. FOR YOUR INFORMATION the Chevrolet Truck Shop Manual does state in Sectio 1-2, Fig 1 and Paragraph Mounting Replacement (1948 Models), but no one I've contacted about this subject has been able to define which bushing set I would need. Thanks for your help.

Speaking of hair...... What I did was order one of those electric hair clipper cutter things from Amazon. I put on one of the short attachments and my wife gave me a crew cut. First super short crew cut I've ever had, except for when my parents cut my hair when I was a kid in the 1960's. I like it so much I've decided just to keep it that way, LOL. Should have done it years ago. Only takes a couple of minutes and no more visits to the Barber. Anyway, are you going to change out the shifter before the first drive? Seems like a long reach to shift the truck, especially with the new seats. Oh, and one other thing....... Does anybody know what's going on with all these people in the comment section asking to be "friends"? I don't get it. Perhaps some kind of scam??

Been seein' them tracks as well everywhere. Brought straight to mind a quote from the late Leonard Cohen after he'd spent 10 years practicing to be a monk. Reminiscent too; of what King Solomon derived @ the end of Ecclesiastes ''The less I was of who I was the better I felt.''

I'm staying with that short sorry excuse for a shifter for now since it does work and other needs are pressing it but I can see a nice tall Lokar shifter if the steering setup stays the same or going with an I-DID-It column (or late model OEM) with a column shifter should an IFS gets grafted onto the frontend. Like I said to Rebel a good buzz cut and/or high & tight would suit me fine but my Mrs is over-ruling that plan of action, LOL.. I'm not so sure what the friends request are all about either. Not being youtube savvy I looked it up and it seems it was an old way to know when new vids were posted but the subscriber function is better and youtube indicates this. I figure why not just subscribe and hit the notification bell. I dunno....
