Jaguar had stopped production during World War Two just like the rest of the American manufacturers and finally released their new model at the Motor Show at London's Earls Court exhibition hall in October 1948. Here, for the first time visitors could see many new post-war models from the British motor industry. There were many cars to be seen but one of the more popular standouts was that of the Jaguar Cars Limited where the XK and their Mark V stood proudly on display. The XK was much more elegant in design and although the Mark V wasn’t quite the looker as its brother, under the shell was essentially the same basic chassis design including the first Jaguar independent front suspension and hydraulic brakes. These models left a lasting impression of what Jaguar and luxury meant and hold their value well beyond their years.
GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this 1949 Jaguar Mark V Saloon for your consideration. With all the class from inside to out, this highly original body and interior shows very well and hosts a great deal of personality due to its elegant design. The car originated from Honolulu, HI and was brought to the states only recently where the current owner did most of the restoration work himself including a lot of work to the drivetrain. The engine was not salvageable and so a strong running 350ci V8 engine mated to a modern automatic transmission was added to ensure a comfortable and reliable ride. Believed to have a 3.08 rear gear setting within the 8” rear end, the tires are modern for better ride and safety and with its power steering and brakes; this is really a joy ride! The interior is in great condition with its steam bent wood work throughout, the sliding moonroof covers near the entire top, the luxury was clearly the goal when the design team made this one. With all the class from the outside to in, a modern drivetrain and some of the original parts also available, call or email us today for your chance to own something really unique and special!
