Hey there, folks! This is a RCI B-3 Unit from September 1951 - sadly nothing in this Korean War-era Ration was edible other than the sugar. And trust me, I tried to eat some, but that smell was so awful - so rank and dangerous, I couldn't have done it no matter what! I still have 2 more B Units from this era, and also an extremely rare Accessory Packet Can with a whole pack of cigarettes coming up very soon - this and my 1998 LRP are a double feature tonight, and I will edit one or two more before bed and maybe get those up in the wee hours of the morning, or sometime tomorrow. Keeping these videos churning out and for your learning/entertainment!
Thanks so much for watching, and I hope you enjoy the madness!

If Steve1989 says it’s nasty and spoiled, it must be indescribable. It’s 2018 and he recently posted a video where he ate British powdered beef from 1898, and quite a lot of it too. All I have to say is holy shit, this ration must have been *bad*

That piece of ration meat came from the boer war, even before the great war and it's contents are all beef throaways (bits of marrow included) and that ration is really for emergency situations, But for some reason is still edible.

My dad was a cook in the U.S.M.C. during Korea, later serving as the Personal Party Cook for the 20th Commandant. He told me that he regularly had to use ingredients that were marked as packed in 1917 and 1918. When his grandson joined the Corps., he told him to enjoy the 1950's potatoes that he never got to see!

I really enjoy the videos.. I find it truly amazing to get to see inside of these units and to think of all of the time and things that have went on in the world since they were produced.. The people who last saw the items inside and packaged them are more then likely dead and gone. The 50's happened, The 60's, Vietnam, Hippies, Martin Luther King, The 70s, 80's, 90's and 2000s. etc.... Just think of all the stuff that has went on in the world while this can set some place waiting to be opened.. Amazing.

I know what you mean there. I've had this strange feeling before, of time flowing past an item, forever preserving it as a frozen moment, albeit never with something this old. I've probably felt it the most intensely when I came across my old Game Boy Color a couple years back, batteries and the game I last played still in it. I turned it on, and there was my save file and everything, all still in perfect working order. I had this really odd mixture of emotions then, equal parts nostalgia and sadness and something I can't describe. I couldn't help but think of all the days of my life gone by, all the things that happened since I last played that thing as a kid, and left it in a closet, forgotten. End of primary school, all of secondary, all of university, all the little dramas and moments of life, almost 20 years of living and doing, and all the while, that little machine sat there, outside time, as it were, frozen at the instant I last turned it off. It made me feel old, all of a sudden. Made me reflect. It probably had a stronger effect on me than old ruins and artifacts and such usually do because it was more relatable, something closer to home, so to speak.

I have just discovered Your vid's in the last few Days and loving them. I studied war history at Uni and find these historical treasures amazing!! Whats the chance of you having A vid discussing the ration's and what it was like for the soldier's by interviewing some of the Veterans You know, (you spoke about having conversation's with some of these guy's in a video I watched last night). I don't know many Veteran's except my Grandfather's who have passed and and my Mum's Cousin who was in Vietnam!! I would be interested to hear what their experiences were like, being at war and eating these foods? Also, other thing's like ration's, were they designed for different people and areas, like Air force, did they need particular types of Nutrition compared to say an Army Soldier?? There are endless question's that could be discussed starting with the ration experience!! It would be so cool to hear from the Dudes who lived on this stuff Day in and Day out and document their stories before they disappear for good!! Just a thought?? (History, gotta love it) Namaste my friend and thanks for sharing these vid's!!

I helped my mom clean a kitchen cabinet not long ago. There was an unopened tin of Danish Butter cookies, about a year old. I thought, "With preservatives, these should be OK" Wow how wrong was I?? The odor was something of nasty cheese and tear gas.

I wonder what kind of conditions would fuck up a sealed can that bad. Perhaps it sat somewhere in the baking sun and freezing night for a few months, judging from the molten coffee powder. Perhaps they looted it from a nuke testsite. ;)

Wplus M1 Come on, Steve had a number of good 5decade+ rations, time by itself is a factor that seems surprisingly forgiving for properly sealed food.

+Steve1989 MREinfo what is the typical price you'll look for and where do you find these? I'm assuming sites like eBay wouldn't be great. With sites dedicated to these historical items much better. Also Reddit really seems to like you doing these reviews :D
