An extra video this week - two highly under-documented generations of the Food Packet, Survival, Arctic.
The Food Packet SA & ST's replaced the Emergency Parachute Ration in 1948 - and the two Rations updated every 2 years and with a higher digit on their title. This is a rare look into something that really gives us a look not only on the importance of proper food storage, but also a great look into an advancing time in survival food technology.
Hope you enjoy the video!
Will be seeing any of you who come out to Doswell October 22nd & 23rd - www.mreinfo.com... ---- Hope to see a bunch of you folks there, and until then I will be working on new videos.

Ironically, cheese which was one of the first invented ways to preserve dairy, seems to be the culprit in going rancid first in most of these packs.

Awesome! I've always had a weird interest in long-life foods. I like to keep a bug-out bag with a few such things for an emergency. But, I also love the historical aspect of these, especially to know what the men fighting were presented with.

Very true! I wonder if current mre makers ever look at these old ones to see why they go bad, points of failure in preservation packaging etc. I always liked the old rigid style containers of this era more. I'd be awesome to keep your stuff in old mre tins! New mre's are more plastic wrapped/bagged and less durable but lighter I guess, and they do not oxidize, react or deteriorate.

Man...this is absolutely fascinating to me. I've always had an odd curiosity about old packaged food, ever since I was little, and often wished I could open up a can of beans or spaghetti or something from an earlier age just to see what it was like. Your channel gives me a way to actually see it done and I am extremely appreciative of it. Your voice is also lovely and quite soothing; these have become favorite things of mine to watch while just winding down. Kudos to you and your work. I hope you don't become ill from your brave attempts to eat some of this, though. Your courage is admirable, haha. Seems like the cheese really ruins the rest of the package after 40 plus years of aging, which is a shame.

I like to think that all food in the Fallout Universe has so many preservatives that they're like Twinkies, and are still *mostly* edible. Though their shit condition and the fact that they irradiate you is an better indication of how edible they really are. Sidenote: you can actually find and eat MREs in the "Lonesome Road" DLC of Fallout: New Vegas, and they're only marginally better than other foods.
