Take a look at a C Ration & eating some components.. and also looking at some super nasty Ham & Eggs from a can that was produced almost 40 years ago. A gnarly experience that requires a solid viewing. Enjoy.

The main issue concerning longevity with C-rats was "detinning" where the interior of those cans would break down over time thereby contaminating the contents. Being in the US Army, 1969 - 1979, I have eaten more than my fair share of C-rats. The most feared meal is this one, Ham and Eggs, Chopped. A case of C-rats, when opened from the top, shows the labels for each meal. Ham and Eggs was always the last one left standing. Then our Platoon Sergeant would throw a case on the ground bottom side up and everybody got to draw a ration. It didn't take long for everyone to learn where Ham and Eggs was positioned thus avoided. It got to the point where Sarge would open a case from the bottom then randomly shuffle all the meals before we got to draw. Call it democracy, US Army style.

Back in the day,1966-1967,Ham and eggs chopped were barely edible,if you sliced them, heated them,we used the bottom half of the mess kit, then liberally doused them with Tabsco.Choclate discs we got were only a couple years old so at least edible. One poster said heat P.B in micro wave,we did not have a micro wave, but mixing the PB with mosquito repellant made a pretty good fuel for heatng the edible portion of the MCI.Also the smoke kind of kept the mosquitos back.O well maybe the MCI are why I am beng treated for colon cancer now.

I thought it was supposed to take organic matter millions of years to turn into coal. Turns out all you have to do is package it as a C ration and wait 30 years. Does this mean that coal is now renewable energy??

Mmmmm... green eggs and ham. An old time "favorite." BTW, ya gotta put the peanut butter on the shit disc (fudge) for a real "treat." MCIs, I remember those babies, I was in from 80-84. Oh yeah, ham and motherfu**ers, beef and rocks, spagreasy, beenie weenies, or you just mixed that shit together with as much Tabasco as you could get your hands on and called it "C-Rat Stew." Aaaaah those were the days. And we didn't call the can openers P-38s, they were a "John Wayne" or just simply a "Duke." Memory lane my friend... memory lane.

Metallic Ham and Eggs. LOL When they were new that's kind of what they tasted like anyway. They were steamed in the can. So you got a little of the can taste with it. Back in the early 70's, the ham & eggs was one you always gave away.

That King Kong ride smell I think is hydraulic fluid. One of the hydraulic lifts at the factory I used to work at broke and started leaking, and it smelt just like roller coaster :) About the peanut butter, I recommend you mix it thoroughly. The natural stuff will always have oil separation, whereas the icing-sugar derived modern-day peanut butter will not. With natural peanut butter that has turned solid, I will pop it in the microwave briefly and it will soften, making it easier to mix.

Fond memories of the Ham and Eggs Chopped C-rats from '66-'67. I was one of the few that liked them so could always get any someone else had (didn't have to trade). P-38s came 4 to the case as I recall. A third to half of the cans of Ham and Lima Beans came pre-swelled when they were new. Only knew one guy who liked them. Over all, I actually liked C-rats which was a good thing as they were almost exclusively what I had to eat for most of one year. :-)
