This 53 Cadillac convertible has been owned by the same family since 1962. It has been very well preserved and is in gorgeous original condition. Looks real close at fit and finish and you will agree that this is a fabulous car! It was not an easy decision for them to decide to part with the car. Lots of great memories are attached and they feel it is time for a new chapter for this wonderful Cadillac. I am sure it will be a long time before another this nice comes along. Remember, this is not a restored car. Enjoy!

Love the slow idle. No car on earth does it better. You can nearly count the fan blades going around. Thanks for sharing. I only wish it was parked in my driveway.

We had one when I was a kid. It replaced our Packard Caribbean. As I remember, the Cadillac was significantly more powerful and easier to maintain. I think the Packard was a little smaller, handled and rode better and just had a more solid feel. Windows, seats, etc. were all hydraulic in the Packard and I think it had self-leveling, torsion bar suspension. The Cadillac was more reliable.

I love these fifties Caddies. Most of them sound like they need a new exhaust system, but I've heard one that sounded like a Cadillac should sound. This one, beautiful as it is, is in the former category.

We have owned our 58 caddy since it was 2 years old. It has always had a burble rumbling sound to the exhaust in park. And it does have a slow idle. A little more so upon acceleration. That's the way they are. Of course one can alter the exhaust system too make it louder. I dont agree with that.

Beautiful Caddy. Love that super slow idle. A guy down the street has a 1952 Series 62 50th Anniversary 4-dr Sedan in green that I’ve had my eye on for years. Just waiting for him to sell!

I remember around the mid 60's these were a dime a dozen, now they are collectibles . around 1961 we had neighbors with the prettiest 52 Sedan DeVille in light green with a dark green top and interior, even had power windows, they were sorry when they sold it and bought a used Coupe DeVille as the 52 was a much better car, since they had bought it from someone they knew . It was so nice, I still remember it. This one is really nice, and it has its original black and gold California licence that came out about 60-61 everyone had to convert to those plates. What part of California are you in?

I was looking at cars like this cadillac on ebay and other web sites and could not believe that most of those cars go for under $15,000. the same thing goes for the Lincoln from the same time frame.

Chrome valve covers don't seem stock to me. My Dad had a 53 Coupe De Dille with I believe ,blue valve covers. That was in 1953.

I would like to have been given at least a brief full-length view of the car at the beginning of the video - or somewhere before it ended. You may know what the whole car looks like on the road, but I've only seen a series of close-up bits of it.

Interesting comments. I try to tell everyone I am not a film maker-- I'm just a car-guy. I dont write a script, I just tell it as I see it. I'm not a car sales person, I put up theses videos for fun when I have time to do one. It is all as-is where is -- one hand on camera and one hand on the car... If you want a script or a film crew produced video, Check out Jay Leno's videos, He does it like a TV show and they are done very well.

The camera work is awful. This could be an amazing channel with millions of subscribers but the camera work is holding this back. It’s very choppy, focus wanders and the “stabilization” on the camera stretches the image too much.

And thank God for that. For a time after the Second World War, my family, every other year or so, bought 3 Cadillacs: one was my father's, one for one of his brothers and one for my grand-mother. By 1959 it was clearly evident that the cars had more and more problems each year. Plus, the style of the "59 was not appropriate (my uncle's opinion, which I share) for serious people. Instead of spending resources and time on the mechanicals of the car, GM chose to ignore the world and pay no attention to its new standards. When the family's 1958 Cads became too onerous to maintain, they were replaced with Mercedes-Benz.

These beautiful old cars are absolutely NOT, DAILY DRIVERS. And you shouldn't view them as such. When you own a 50 60 70 year old car, its because you love them, and enjoy caring for them, and riding around in them on beautiful sunny day, just cruising around, with family or friends, or running errands around town. You also own a modern car with modern amenities and good mpg. Best of both worlds.
