Good job. You’re a brave man bending that cutaway binding in place. With the heat, there’s a fine line between, “Hey, it bent!” and “Damnit!” Looking forward to seeing what you came up with in the logo.

I ain't mad acha for using filler... All the big boys use it under their painted guitars. I can't wait to see how the logo comes out. Those are easy to do with lasers, but they are a trick to do by hand or on a CNC.

7:00 It's almost like you want to cut yourself a piece of wood that will fit right into that cutaway area and use that to press the binding evenly against the body.

The body is in great condition now compared to how it started out. Do you intend to restore the gold top finish? Or will you change it to a burst stain finish? Thanks for posting.

"Not sponsored by StewMac". With as much stuff of theirs as you use, you ought to look into getting hooked up with them. They've been investing a lot into YT and I've seen other channels do sponsored vids.

Coming along nicely! Is there a reason you went with the 70s style binding instead of the way they did it in the 50s?
@bigdguitars4 жыл бұрын
That’s the binding of the early les Paul’s. I am going to have to paint with dark spray the sides to clean all of this up.
@MarijnSlot4 жыл бұрын
@@bigdguitars So the earliest Goldtops had the taller routing in the cutaway as well? Since the later 50s have a (more or less) constant height binding route which follows the cutaway. Same as they do now I think.
@gypsyjoo4 жыл бұрын
@@MarijnSlot No, you were correct. The vintage Les Paul's (including the early goldtops) had the narrow binding channel.

If you’re looking at how to carved a top/back for a 335 type body, I’d suggest looking at arch-top guitar builds. There r plenty of amazing luthiers building them on YT.
