Good to see your progress. I have a 1959 International B-180 grain truck that I acquired last year to primarily use as a hauler/dumper around the farm (gravel, compost, dirt, etc). She’s a sweetheart, a little unpolished here and there, but she shows up to work with a great attitude and gets the work done. I’m about to launch into replacing all of the wheel cylinders and brake lines, and will have to see what the shoes and drums look like when I get into them. Thankfully the owner of our local Carquest Auto Parts store has parts books going back decades and can still source parts for the old girl. I’ve also got a 1951 Chevrolet 3800 cab & chassis waiting on me to restore to take to farmers market. I drove her on to the trailer under her own power, but essentially all of the brake system has had to be accumulated for replacement, including original “better” condition drums, as there are no aftermarket ones for the one tons. I’ve also found a 1953 flatbed to restore and eventually mount as well. As you know, these projects take time when balancing other employment and life. I’m enjoying seeing your ‘55 project, and look forward to future posts.

Funny you should mention the brakes, I've taken a swing at mine maybe a month or two ago just to see what parts I'll need aannnddd it's not looking like I'm going to have an easy time sourcing replacements. I can still buy my master cylinder, my brake booster, and my wheel cylinders (which is great) but I can't locate pads, drums, or hardware kits. Also, I bet that B-180 is a beautiful truck, I love the cab on those trucks they have such a classic look to them!

I have a 1961 International B180 and need to do all the brakes. It would be great if you made a video of the complete brake job. That is my next project on my old truck and it would be great to see how its done.

@torontotool1 I'm still trying to find my brake parts, but I think that oldinternationaltrucks in Alberta might have what I need. Sorting out my drivetrain will be the first thing I want to do in the spring, but brakes should be second. Have you tried sourcing parts for yours yet?

That would make a great show, my old truck or this old truck. Some of you other guys should start a KZbin channel because I love these old trucks and enjoy watching people work on them.

I found your channel through Zane’s, and you got quite a cool project truck there. It’s amazing what a good pressure washing can do to a vehicle.👍 Great work painting the frame it looks awesome!

Thanks! I'm excited to see how Zane's international comes along,the original motor in this truck is the same as Zane's I believe, mine was toast unfortunately but I'm hoping that Zane will have better luck. I'd love to at least see one run, I've never even heard one running before!

Rust Rehab Definitely! These old trucks have so much character to them. I’ve never heard one run either, but if there’s anyone on this planet that could get that engine goin it’s Zane!👍

That frame looks good! 🙂👍 I don't blame you one bit for using Rustoleum instead of the POR15. That stuff is crazy expensive! 😲 I almost always use the Rustoleum and it holds up fantastic. Its getting closer 🙂👍

I was SO disappointed in that POR15. I heard such good things about it, but it just washed off like it was water paint. Thanks for linking J. C. Smith in your last video, I didn't know about him but his content has been super useful!

If that's black Rust-Oleum paint it will hold up nicely. My dad and I put it under Neath my 1965 Dodge dart from the fire wall back to the rear bumper.

That's exactly what it is, just sold under another brand name here. Im glad to hear it, because some of the other stuff I have tried over the years did not hold up well at all

The wire you found between the front engine mount bolts is the 1950's version of a locking fastener.

I figured it must have been something like that. I'm not sure if it showed up well on camera, but those volt holes are really blown out. At some point that engine was doing a lot of shaking around for sure

The job description of a pressure washer is: Remove all unwanted grunge from where you don't want it, to the other place you don't want it. i.e. the operator

I got myself properly coated. Spent half the day covered in gunk, the other half in paint. Glad to have it done with though, less worries about it rusting out over winter now

About to tackle my 74 Scout frame and tan upon this video. How has it held up? Any rust creeping through the paint or flaking?
@RustRehab
@RustRehab Жыл бұрын
Nope! It's been a few years now and it's held beautiful. I haven't done the second coat yet, I plan to wait another year or two, and so far so good. Especially considering the minimal prep I did, I'm pretty tickled with it.

What do the neighbors think of your project? For it against it ? You said it took over an hour to pressure wash, don't look at time , look at results lol , I know you will be doing your best. If it's a rare truck in your area it's worth preserving , even if you sell it later on.
@RustRehab

I live on a fairly secluded road, and *most* of my neighbors are very tolerant and encouraging of all the nonsense I've brought home over the last few years. One guy though HATES the truck. It was actually how I met him, he came over just after I brought it home and started ranting over how it was degrading his property, implying he was going to have the city remove it, demanding I sell it, yadda yadda. I was pretty cross about it for a while, until I learned from another neighbour that the angry guy actually has a bit of dementia, and says some pretty crazy things sometimes. Silver lining though is that he actually forgot about it (yes, that really happened, it's not a dementia joke) and now he's very good to us and asks about the truck progress frequently. It was a real roller coaster ride there for a while though, and for about a week it really took the wind out of my sales.

@@RustRehab That's a relief that he's changed , I brought something simular home once in a close packed neighborhood that looked down on trucks , and raced to get it fixed and out of the area in 48 hours or so , before folks blew a gasket . Afterwards the neighbors asked about the vehicles and were positive. So you just never know. Just to be safe I never did that again .
