My dad ran a service station back in the 60s across the street from a Chevrolet dealership and I spent a lot of time there. They had a 57 Nomad for sale. Apple green and white with white interior and a 427! The most gorgeous thing I’d ever seen! That B pillar is KILLER! Loved all the tri fives and had different number 1s over the decades. 56 has been my favorite for quite some time and I see nothing here changes my mind. Just a gorgeous car that SCREAMS America!!

Stunning. We get so spoiled by Lou with all of the great vehicles he showcases. We are indeed lucky to have Lou giving historical recordings of great vehicles with which to preserve for future generations. Here we have what is almost dead - a station wagon - horrifically replaced by CUV's and bloated SUV's.

I was 12 years old when this beautiful car was introduced. My dad worked for the State of Connecticut as a dairy farm inspector for 25 years. His work car was a 1956 Chevrolet 150 business coupe (no rear seat), which was issued to him as a brand new vehicle. I remember the hidden gasoline filler neck which I thought was a great idea. Thank you again, Lou, for another unique classic car!

Hi, Lou! The Chevrolet Bel Air Nomad was probably the only station wagon, other than woodies, that got any significant attention in the classic car hobby before we finally began to appreciate all station wagons. It wasn't the big seller some of us might have expected it to be, although its unique sense of style probably did bring it a lot of attention in Chevrolet showrooms. Ford must have thought Chevy would be on to something with the Nomad, too, because in '56 it brought out a competitor, the Parklane, although that didn't have its own unique body like the Nomad, instead borrowing the Ranch Wagon body and applying fancier trim inside and out. It only lasted that one year. Many thanks to you, Mark and Niki for taking us all wandering cross town in the Nomad! They would be very welcome additions to our wagon club!

A beautiful car and so clean and neat. The owner shared the mechanical upgrades and the new paint. It was just a short statement about the dash and aftermarket gauges. I assume that the interior was redone too but that wasn't covered in any detail. This was a good story Lou and a real cool ending with the bird. I wish in every MCS that you would ask what shape the car was in when they purchased it and what they have done since then. When possible if the owner has pictures of the car when they purchased it that would add a transitional feature. The chrome accents look great. Did the owner have that redone? Lou thanks for finding all these cool unique and rare cars on your program.

Like all Tri Five Nomads, but 1956 is my favorite because the side trim lent itself to tu-tone paint schemes. Nomads were the most expensive model, even more than a convertible. Was supposed to be a sporty wagon for up and coming suburbinites, but because of cost and not being very practical not many were sold.

Lovely car! I always preferred the '55 and '56 because they still had 15" wheels. One of my uncles had a '56 Bel Air sedan when I was young, but of course, this being Texas, it had factory a/c with the 265 V8. I wonder whether this gentleman has had leaking problems with the back as so many Nomads did. Lou, what do you think? Do you think they could've done a true Nomad style like this in either '58 or '59? I don't really see how it could've been adapted well.. The amazing thing to me is that, with the bloat starting in 1958, that by the mid sixties the Chevelle was the real successor to these 'hot ones'! Best wishes from Texas.
