Ive been a restaurant supplies salesman for 28 years here in my born & raised area of N. IL. (I’m 59) Mom & Pop owners and their establishments are the salt of this Earth. Your interview coverage of these folks EXACTY showed why. They provide many first jobs, even lifetime positions, many new workers have learned hard work ethic and dealing with people! Extremely important skills and all while providing much needed services to their communities. I supply one restaurant that’s been in our community for 51 years, and 2 others almost 30 years as the honorable mentions. They become friends, not just my customers. Great interview!

Lord, if I hadn’t left my run too late and I’d ever got to come to the USA …..I’d of headed straight to the Appalachian places you document…..beautiful country, people and passion…..thanks for showing them all to me 😊❤🇦🇺❤️

I love that there are still these mom and pop places and that you keep people in the know about them… You help keep their doors open. Even though I’m 1/2 way across the US from where you share with us, you make me search out these type of establishments in our part of the country. Although they are fewer and further between in CA, not that they don’t exist. I was a huge Huell Howser fan for just that reason and have visited many places because of his show, which yours remind me greatly of. Keep up great job. I’ve taken many armchair trips and met many fascinating people on your channel. Thank you!!!

I love the family owned restaurants the best. They always have great food and very friendly employees. What will we do if they all disappear someday? I would never go to another restaurant if that happened. Thank you for showing us this wonderful restaurant! I wish we had one just like it around my area. There are a few family owned restaurants around here but this one looks exceptional. What a lovely family and fantastic employees. I hope it lasts for many more years! ❤

Almost every little town through the sierra range and much of california's rural areas has little places like this, and i try to go to them when I'm riding around here. Great little local places, some only open in spring to fall, and always worth going to. These places are where the locals eat, lots of families and people passing through. One I found not way too far makes great lemonade, iced tea and a BLT that goes well with their fresh made onion rings. When you're out on the road, support these little places, keep them going and don't let fast food chains take this history of little locally owned places away.

I'm pretty sure I remember the video with Ralph when he came to eat with you here. Back in the day we use to have lots of these little restaurants around even here in Illinois. Still find one or two in the small towns but really none in the larger towns. And, it is hard to find help here, too. Still see some limited openings due to staffing.

that persons comment about mashing the hamburger too hard is wrong. It’s not real thick so doesn’t take long to cook but it is delicious and very tasty. Don’t knock if you haven’t tried it. They beat any fast food burger any day of the week. The hillbillies know how to cook. Ask me I’m a hillbilly living in Md for 60 years.
