Great presentation on this rolling automotive art, I agree this is a pinacol of great G.M. design. This is one of Oldsmobile standalone classics!

Excellent video and photos... along with the 1967 ElDorado, the 1966 Toronado is the epitome of beauty in car design.

66 Toronado was the experimental front runner for the 67 Eldorado. Olds & Cadillac had front wheel drive only on these cars in GM until the Riviera joined in the 80's. Olds & Cadillac were very " close " divisions. What went into a Cadillac was proven in an Olds first.

Great car and video. I wish I could afford to own that one year. I had a '82 and I used it in the winter and I called it my snowmobile. I reinforced the grill and headlights and I actually use it to ram snow banks lol. Mine was a diesel at production, but later on my neighbor swapped the diesel for a 350 high output Oldsmobile engine. Then he offered to sell it to me for dirt cheap and I did.

These were great cars and well engineered by the the founder Ransom Olds. However, it was sad when GM phased them out. Can you imagine how great they would be today if they were still around ? ( THEY probably would be fantastic in the truck market too.)

Love the 1966 Toronado. It had to seem like a spaceship back then. The adjusted inflation price today of the deluxe 1966 model is what the average transaction of a vehicle sale today $44K a Home for $110K is what the prices of homes should be not Half Million bucks.

Great comment, thanks...That's why I like to add these prices, to let people know how ridiculous product pricing is today. Nobody is going to buy a home today, for what the average bought then... And, back then, the assembly line used humans to build cars, humans that got a paycheck. Today, robots that don't take pay build much of the car today. The profit on cars today are insane, considering what you get for what you pay.

it was GM;s car of the future, not because of front wheel drive but because of it;s design.

Hi Char, outstanding video! Outstanding automobile! The 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado based on the GM E-Body platform, was one of the most technologically advanced automobiles ever produced. With the "longitudinal engine" front wheel drive (FWD) the engine, transmission, differential and drive axels forward of the passenger compartment, this meant less harmonic vibration and noise transmitted into the passenger compartment, with a big fat smooth running high performance V8! Much smoother than todays transvers front wheel drive (FWD) inline 4 cylinder and V6s of today. Vibration damping with opposite rotating counter shaft(s) where not necessary! Please reply. Dave...
