This is an extremely rare gas Duomatic (most were 220V) that's been fully restored. Only 2 are known to exist and this is the only one that is used on regular, weekly basis!

My parents had a bendix washer dryer - bought it in 1961. It cost the equivalent of one months average salary. It lasted 25 years!

People think some art went into old cars and houses. But a lot of art and craftsmanship in these older appliances. This doumatic set you have must be very rare this. Very beautiful piece.

Wow. Old appliances are amazing! I honestly don’t know what brought me here, but it’s cool seeing old appliances work.

My father has been an appliance repairman for 50 years, and he LOVED your video. Never worked on a model like this but he worked on the whirlpool dc50 turbomatics. Same principle.

My parents had a Philco washer / dryer combo machine ... It was the best ... The thick glass window was full to look thru and watch it wash.. The model we had was made to tumble in one direction then stop and rotate in the opposite direction ... The dryer would then start after the wash cycle .. Too bad companies don't make products as solid made as they use to

Beautiful machine. It must have been very expensive to buy when new.

what a totally amazing machine. I don't even think it needed a 3rd rinse as it done a good enough job on the second. and 505 rpm I'm guessing was pretty good for back then

First time I've seen one of these work since our Duomatic gave up the ghost in the early 60's. Ours had the controls on the top front, hidden under a hinged lid. Still have the rescued "Duomatic" nameplate in a drawer. Great to see one in action again.

I bet THOSE clothes get clean... not like in the new HE top loaders where they jiggle the clothes under a stream of water.

Wow fire in a washing machine!
@charlespurviskellyjr.72104 жыл бұрын
And to find one which can wash and dry the same amount of clothes in one load. With the modern combos, you usually have to take some of the clothes out when you’re finished washing, and have to dry half of your wash load at a time. With the older combos, you can wash and dry the SAME EXACT load. Why can’t that be done with newer more modern combos? -Charles-

is amazing machine... from 60 years ago!! the times on cycles are very similar to use "Super Speed" cycle on my combo Washer/Dryer Samsung (2017 model) with the difference that the drying in my machine is by condensation... (110V)

It seems strange that the air coming out of gas dryers smells different.
@revvinkev4 жыл бұрын
That's because because of the burning flame and carbon dioxide from it.

Does the heating element use a pilot lamp or electric ignition?
@Renatodonadio6 жыл бұрын
I was wondering the same, maybe on the left there is a glowing element, but I'm still curious to know if there was a safety valve to shut off the gas in case of emergency ;-D
@billynage9 жыл бұрын
Incredible machine! I was wondering if it has electronic ignition for the gas or does it use a pilot light?
@ElmerCat9 жыл бұрын
***** Starting at time 10:58, you can see that the pilot light is in the front end of the burner. It has a smaller supply line than the main burner. With the need to manually relight the pilot, it appears they designed the front panel for easy access.

comme le chauffage pour le sechage se fait avec des flammes ya il un risque que le linge brule ou prenne feu ?

@theoleclercq65066 жыл бұрын
Merci de votre réponse le séchage se fait à quel température ?
@revvinkev6 жыл бұрын
Je suis désolé je ne sais pas. Les séchoirs d'aujourd'hui fonctionnent à 160-180 degrés, beaucoup de séchoirs des années 1950 ont été plus chauds. (Dieu merci pour google traduire!)
@richardharrold97366 жыл бұрын
What's the maximum wash cycle length on these?
@revvinkev6 жыл бұрын
The *wash only* time was similar to many washers of the time, around 30-35 minutes. Drying time varies, but most things take 45 mins to an 1 hour to dry.

Is this high efficiency?
@revvinkev7 жыл бұрын
Is this high efficiency?? Really??OK, so lets just stop and think about this for JUST a minute! This machine was built 59 YEARS ago. Think about that, 59 years! Do you REALLY think ANYONE 59 years ago know ANYTHING about high efficiency or even knew such a think was possibly or even necessary?? So now you tell me. Is this machine "high efficiency"?????
@drdegutrez84587 жыл бұрын
Then if that's true, is HE detergent safe for non-HE machines?
@davidpar27 жыл бұрын
+ROBLOXO2017 "HE" detergent is the way laundry detergent was made before the "sudsing" agent was added, which was done with the advent of the top loader, for marketing purposes
@StrongEnough786 жыл бұрын
I would consider this high efficiency seeing it doesn't use anywhere near the water a standard top loader uses. But it still uses a better amount than todays high efficiency machines.
@jquest436 жыл бұрын

That is a slow spinning speed. My Bosch from 10 years old spins 1600 rpm
@revvinkev7 жыл бұрын
Slow spin speed? Really?!?!? This machine is SIXTY YEARS OLD!!!
@dualityk7 жыл бұрын
Another machine which is SIXTY YEARS OLD!!! is the Frigidaire Unimatic line, which spun at 1140rpm. The Bendix ones were pretty pokey for final spin even by the standards of the day, but they sure were swank looking machines.
@revvinkev7 жыл бұрын
Really? Aside from the Unimatic, the majority of washing machines from the 50's & 60's were lucky if they spun as fast as 600 - 650 rpm!!!
@dualityk7 жыл бұрын
Kevin B Now, you can't just exclude the Unimatic because it's the same age and still faster. :) But I take your point in general. (Also, the Unimatic used an ocean worth of water per cycle and the Bendix was a lot more economical, as far as I can tell.)
@revvinkev7 жыл бұрын
I most definitely CAN exclude the Unimatic because it does spin extremely fast for the time it was built/sold. Also, we are talking about spin speeds here, not water usage. On that note, the Unimatic uses less water than you may think because it has a solid (non-perforated) tub. There's no way it uses 60 gallons per load like other washing machines of the time.
